- Every Friday ABC Action News puts a special spotlight on a dog or cat that needs a home in our Pet of the Week segment. This week we are featuring an older Pekingese. Meet Bentley. This 12-year-old gentleman comes from Pet Pal Animal Shelter in St. Petersburg. Pekingese are known to be affectionate, loyal dogs with a regal manner. Bentley is quiet, gentle and has a wonderful happy temperament. There is something special about older dogs. They give all they have to their people. He would make a wonderful companion and would love a home with adults. Bentley is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $200. I've had Pekes for 30 years and most all were and are like this. They love to be held like babies.

@@glenm5034 I bet she made up for it in other ways though. Not all like to be held like this but many do. I was just fortunate that most of mine have been this way. I've had 15 of them now.

Pekes are truly the best love monkeys in the whole world!!!!!! I'm on my second rescue for Pekes and i simply don't understand how these precious babies even get in that situation to be honest.... thank goodness for superb owners like all of us!!!!!
My dog does the same lol all my neighbors say “ he still does that” and i proudly say “ yes he does he still acts like a baby!”

My Peke does this also. He's such a loveable clown. He's only 2 and loves to go for hikes although in this upper 90s weather, he prefers lounging around on his cool mat. Must love to groom if you get one -- daily with extra attention to eyes and the nasal fold. I read up on them before adopting him to make sure I could provide a wonderful home for him. They have some health conditions and are prone to many health issues and they require extra care and do best on a raw food diet. He was adopted from a local shelter and, thankfully, the staff there really screened homes before placing him. I feel so fortunate that they allowed me to adopt my little snuggle bug. Can't imagine a single day not shared with this clever boy.
So true! My Peke lived to 16 1/2. For him, strict grain-free diet was necessary since he tended to recurring yeast infections. Once all grains were eliminated, no more sour smell and discomfort for him. They love their families, are loyal, goofy, and affectionate. I miss our little guy so much!
