This was the first match between the two teams in the World Championships. Brazil won the match 2-0 and became world champion for the fifth time in history.     Both goals in the final in the second half were scored by Ronaldo, who with 8 goals became the top scorer of this championship. The captain of the Brazilians, Cafu, became the first and so far the only footballer in history who managed to play in three consecutive World Cup finals (in 1994, 1998 and 2002).
