Exceptionally Detailed… got it done in 2.5 hours… would have taken nearly as long to commute to and from shop and pay.
Very Grateful for your putting these resources online
You sir, are AMAZING. I followed your video step by step and it was trouble free. Radiator had crack below fill cap so I replaced radiator and figured I would do v-belt and h20 pump as they were original and truck has 140k miles on it (2014 gx460). Lexus (Milwaukee) wanted $3k to do this.
You are a Godsend!!!! Thank you for taking the time and creating such an invaluable video.
I just completed this job in my 2013 GX460 and I am so grateful for this thorough video you put together. Not sure I would have done it without your step by step instructions. Huge thanks for the PDF as well. This was so generous of you to put together. THANK YOU!
Nice job on this video. Saved me some cash on my 2016 GX. Much appreciated.
I agree, one of the best DIY videos on car work I've seen in months. Even at over an hour, it does not waste time with BS stories; and the video and audio are really good. I was really happy to see this posted as I also have a wife's 2010 GX that needs the water pump replaced. Though I won't be attempting the work myself for other reasons, I now see a few questions/comments to put to the young technician, and I will suggest he watch the video. I'll be checking for and encourage you to do other GX-460 vids! Three thumbs up and many thanks!
Something to note...... before you change your oil afyer its been fully warmed drop a pint of marvelmysteryoil the original red stuff. and either go for a short drive or idle it 15min then drain ....... it will help the driverside chain tensioner from geyting locked up.... its a common fault.... chain slap...
Excellent tutorial. I will be doing a radiator replacement and will be using this video as a guide.
Vance you saved me some money and made the job faster i appreciate you keep making great content
For others watching, I was able to use a flathead screw driver to hold the water pump pulley in place for removal without issues. Exactly like he did with the fan. Great video, thanks so much
Excellent guide and very helpful! Those diagrams of bolts saved my rear for the water pump!
Great DIY video. Great camera placement to show what you were working on. No fluff. Loved it!
Vance I commend you on how thorough this video is!
That is one complex job!! Your video is fantastic!! The quality, your explanation, everything!
These are the type of perfect DIY videos, which show me, I need to really take it to the dealership, or a Toyota/Lexus Independent shop lol
Great video, very helpful!
Instead of making the water pump pully tool, I recommend a long "square" screwdriver shaft.
Rest the screwdriver against the water pump pulley hub face. It will hit two bolt heads while you loosen or tighten the others.
You can also use a long flathead screw driver to install the fan too. Just wedge the blade between a bolt head and the housing. Simply tighten to "good n tight" torque spec for the fan bolts.
Cheers
Excellent write up, just completed this project today as well as the radiator and this made everything so much easier! Thanks a lot man!
When you replaced the radior, did you have to remove the front bumper and grill?
@@nrguitar11 I did not remove them, I just laid on my back and fished both hands up in between the bumper and radiator to remove the two lower bolts holding the radiator on. I will say that was probably the hardest part of the entire job, so it may be easier for you just to remove the bumper and grill and save yourself a little headache. I would also recommend putting the lower radiator hose onto the radiator before you put the radiator into the car, it is really difficult to install once it is in the car.
Great video! Some good steps shown as I'll be doing the Valley pan leak on my wife's 12' 460
I followed your procedure for replacing the water pump on my 10 GX460, 213K miles, and it worked great. Ordered my parts from Rock Auto. Thank you for the great video and documentation. I would like to learn how to film a quality DIY project. The audio and video were very good and your comments were are on target.
Glad you were able to get it done! I have found that filming a DIY project well makes it take SO much longer than normal. Sometimes I want to just knock something out quick so I don't film it. I film everything with my smartphone, and edit it together with DaVinci Resolve. Resolve is a free video editing program that is very powerful.
With your PDF and Video instructions this is now definitely doable. Thank you so much for this, that's a lot of money your going to save me!
Thanks for the video. I most definitely liked it. Gonna be doing this job tomorrow. Smooth video. Well put together. God bless!
Thanks Vance, went to change the oil on my 2009 GS460 this morning and found the telltale red guano down the front engine cover, so I guess this'll be next weekends wee project for me!
One of the best DIY videos on TH-cam super detailed , please keep them coming thank you!
Tore some skin off a couple fingers but the job is done thanks to your video. I appreciate the work you put it man, thank you 🙏🏻
What an awesome video! I haven’t done a water pump in a long time nor do I need to do one, but I enjoyed this tutorial.
This video was a huge help! Thanks to you I realized my water pump needed replaced while doing my belt and pulleys!
This video is excellent I did my water pump today thank you so much for the time you spent to make this video
Excellent video , great camera angles, good tips, no fluff. Thank you. Will this tutorial work for a gx 2022, when the time comes. Thank you again. :)
Hey do you have any knowledge vides on replacing the tensioner ,pulley and belt ? Apreciate the help if any !
Thanks for sharing the document
Nice man i look forward to buying a use gx460 for my wife soon.
Thank you. I came to to see how to remove the radiator. I was not disappointed.
Love this channel ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow thanks for the detailed procedure document.
Thanks for doing this.
Great video. Good detail. Was surprised that you didn’t replace radiator hoses and rubber hoses to pump inlet assy.
they usually last the life of the vehicle unless damaged or overheated....
Fantastic video, extremely helpful, thank you so much!
***Great video. We will appreciate knowing the mileage on vehicle at the time of this service.
The car had 97K miles on it when I did this job. Like I mentioned in the video, I saw evidence of some dried coolant that had leaked out of the pump, so I proactively went ahead and replaced it. Thanks for watching!
@@VancesHowTo Thanks. My waterpump failed at 101k miles. Alternator failed earlier.
Word of advice if u use a pry bar to hold the bolts u can loosen all pulley bolts
Thanks for making this.
My '13's radiator is leaking, so I'm thinking I'll tackle all this while I'm at it (160k miles).
Going to also do the belt tensioner and idler pully too.
Having loud noises inside engine and finally found it. Fan Clutch is bad. I'll follow your instructions. Thank you
2016 GX with 58k miles
I really, really appreciate your video. I am about to do it on my 2016 . Thank you
you did an excellent job - a water pump on this vehicle is a relatively big/tricky job for a DIY'er.... no wonder the dealership gets $1,100.00 to do it.
very nice DIY, easy work. Thanks again.
Seriously one of the best DIY videos. How many Gallons of Coolant did you use? The manual calls for 16.3 quarts which would be roughly 4 -5 gallons.
I don't recall actually, so I looked back at my Amazon order history and it looked like I only bought 1 gallon of the concentrate, which when mixed with distilled water at a 50/50 ratio, would give you 2 gallons. I also think I had some left over too.
Very well done video, we thank you very much sir!
Great video! Going to be tackling this and the radiator over the weekend. Quick question. Can the pulley be left under belt tension in order to remove the fasteners? Loosen the pulley bolts first then adjust the tensioner to remove the belt?
Great video! Very helpful and instructive. Thank you!
Also, I don't see the link to your pdf document that has your instructions for this. Can you provide a link please? Thanks
What size “rod” do you use to lock the serpentine belt tensioner back?
Are you able to break the tension on the water pump bolts by leaving the fan belt tensioned and then remove the fan belt tension after?
I didn't try that, but have tried it on other cars with mixed results. Its worth a try, but I expect the belt will just slip.
I like it your video very for step by step right now I know thank you so much..can you let me know do you have used silicon to water pump or not thanks
I installed the new water pump gasket that came with the pump and I did not use any silicone or liquid gasket sealer.
Can you do more gx460 how to videos
Question for you, do you have to use a PC to access TIS, or can you also use a mac?
Good stuff! What do you estimate for total time to do the job? I realize your video work takes more than the job, but you made this look easy.
Do you use any type of formed in place gasket maker like Toyota 103 FIPG on the water pump to engine block mounting surface or is just the metal gasket that comes with the new water pump all you use?
I didn’t see how you prepared the new water pump for installation in the video...I’m getting ready to do this job this week on my GX 460 so I really appreciate this video 👍
Much easier than with the timing belt!
How easy would it be to change the fan clutch bearing bracket during all of this? Just a 'while I'm in there' repair/replacement...
How is the GX running these days?
Thanks this help me a lot !
Thanks! there are not a lot of decent DIYs for the GX460. I have my drive belt due now at 100k mi and looking as glazed as yours. Do you think is possible to replace it without removing the fan and shroud?
I don't think you can do it without removing the fan and shroud. You could give it a try, but know that it might not pan out and you would have to resort to removing the fan blade and shroud.
Thank you very much for the great video. Could you reshare the procedure file? I am getting no response when I click on the link.
That's odd. I just clicked it and it worked for me. Give it a try again and let me know.
vancewillis.net/files/2009-2020_gx460_water_pump.pdf
it must have been an issue with my computer. i have it now. thanks a million!!!
Excellent .🙂
Too late now but i would of replaced the radiator as well if it was original...they usually go 12yr or 120k. Great video
did mine using this video guide really great help thanks , but I just noticed the thermostat is made in china by amazon through you're link.
It looks like the Amazon page does state that. The part I bought was clearly a genuine Toyota part. You can see the markings at 32:45. That being said, I can't speak for what Amazon is shipping today.
Awesome job! Thank you...gives me some confidence hahahah
Was your water pump making any noise as it was failing before you replaced it?
No noises. Just the small dried coolant coming from the weep hole on the water pump.
Good job
Why did you have to replace the pump how many miles did you have on the car I would like to do that before it goes bad
I think the car had around 100K miles on it when I replaced the water pump. Water pumps have a "weep" hole that allows a VERY small amount of coolant to leak out. A small amount coming from the hole periodically is okay, but too much indicates there is a problem with the pump. Its like an early warning system. In my case, there was coolant coming out, and rather than take the chance that it was an acceptable amount, I went ahead and changed the pump out.
@@VancesHowTo it makes sense to me obviously when the car is broke down it's always the worst time I always do a lot of preventative maintenance that's why I watch that video I like to keep my cars for a long time that's why I get Lexus because I'm expecting to get double the life out of it
Hey you didn’t use any gasket sealer for the water pump right? Just slapped it on with the black plates,
That's correct. Its how the manufacturer's procedure is written. I've used gasket sealer on stuff before, but I decided to not use it here and it didn't leak.
@@VancesHowTo frick yeah your tutorial really helped me out I replaced my radiator (it had a hole in it) and the water pump while I had it out. Really glad I did thank you for the help.
Who do I bribe to get a video for timing the 2007 GX470?
You really need to get an affiliate link and list all the parts you bought. You get 10% of what people buy and I want to know which ones you bought.
You're right, I should look into that. I'll have to dig that info up and post it on the video.
I've added links in my video description to all the parts I used. Thanks for the tip on the affiliate links!
Be careful ordering parts from Amazon or eBay. Tons of fakes are out there
I don't know about Rock Auto but be careful buy "OEM" parts from amazon as there are lots of counterfeit parts, I saw a few vids from a toyota machanic was pointing out fake parts.
@@MrPhongtranq I’ve been buying from Rockauto for several years. They are an Auto Parts Store so you know what you are getting.
Shoukd of used s timing belt so it gets replaced with the pump every 90k and is more easy.. new age garbage
You my friend are a gem. Truly grateful for your hardworking putting together that document and filming your work. Thank you.
You're welcome!
