      Hi Britt, I’ve experienced a lot of the continual weight loss while constantly eating, along with anxiety and low energy, and I ended up finding out it was caused by the type of birth control I was on, which was an IUD for me. After I went off of it with in 2 months I started to feel like I could finally keep weight on with more energy. Maybe that could apply to you also so I just thought I’d share.

      Please look into the Montessori sleeping, we have since changed from a crib to Montessori method and it’s changed our routines. Our girl is soooo much more independent since changing to a toddler bed on the floor and it’s so much safer than them falling out of the crib! ❤️

      Thyroid conditions are so common under diagnosed! I have hypothyroidism and I went to several different doctors. I was so tired and thought it was just a normal part of living until Susan Yara made a video talking about her experience with hashimoto’s

    Hi Brittany! I am in a similar situation. My daughter has just turned 2. Only a couple of weeks ago she started saying “up”, apart from that she says nothing. I go through weeks that I am so overwhelmed with trying to do all the repeating and slow speaking, and then I have weeks that I just accept it and enjoy doing hand actions and songs (that we learned from Ms Rachel!).
    During lockdown I lived with my parents, 2 sisters and partner! 7 people altogether. And it didn’t make a difference so don’t feel like you living alone is the only reason because it’s definitely not.
    I’m hopeful that she will talk, her understanding is as good as it can be without communication.
    I have stressed myself out so much researching autism/ speech delay / dyspraxia / hearing difficulties…… the list goes on. I’m currently waiting for an assessment which unfortunately in Ireland takes 3-4 years.
    But when she said “up”, which she now says 50 times a day. I relaxed. It’s much easier to accept that she will talk, just not yet!
    First ever comment on TH-cam btw 😂
    Lots of love to you and Arrow x

    Hey Brittany, I just want to say that, as a very slim person who finds it hard to put on weight, people can sometimes be very insensitive to mention about someone being skinny. It's like if you call someone fat, that's rude but they don't realise calling someone skinny IS ALSO rude. That aside, I think sometimes it is not just how much we consume but how our bodies are absorbing nutrients and from my own experience, stress is a big part when it comes to us not absorbing well. With all that has been going on in your life, must have taken a toll too. Plus all the sleep deprivation, breast feeding and just being a mom to a toddler, trying to run your business and personal relationships;
    OK, I'm stating the obvious but I think maybe doing a blood work of all your mineral levels, hormones and omega ratios could also help you on your journey. Wishing you very good health again soon!

    Arrow has about the same amount of words as my nephew who’s turning 2 on the 4th!! He says “thank you,” “mama,” “da,” (dad lol) and “baby.” Sometimes toddlers don’t have that many words because they can communicate their needs to their parents or caretakers without words, so if their needs are being met they’re not too eager to talk!! My brother and I were late talkers as well and went to talk types of therapy and whatever but that was the case for us(: I loved this video it was nice to “hang out” hahaha. I loved watching you and Arrow play it’s so cute how much fun you have together. Ps I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cheetah print set it’s a 10 for sure !

    Hey Brittany, once your baby/toddler shows signs that they are trying to climb out of their crib the American Pediatric Association suggests that you swap them to a toddler bed. I know this sounds daunting but our transition was surprisingly easy. It’s super easy to baby proof their room. If your little one can climb out of their crib they can get very badly injured from the fall.

    • @rachelbaker3882
      @rachelbaker3882 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi there, just piggy backing off this last comment. Please transition her to a bed. She is very strong and advanced physically. My friend had a baby climb out of the crib and broke his two legs. Babies get hurt all the time. I know it is a hard transition and will feel like a nightmare at first but it is so much safer especially for a baby like arrow.

    You truly are an amazing mom! Arrow is so blessed to have you. I wouldnt worry too much about her vocabulary at this age. Have fun. Talk. Read. In my experience, every child speaks when they are ready. Arrow physical abilities look advanced so maybe she focusing on that before her verbal abilities which lots of kids do as well!
    Keep up the amazing work!

      True. For us is the other way around . My son is not yet 18 months but can count to ten, and say lots of words.
      But he started walking later at 15 months🤷🏻‍♀️. They all develope at their own speed.

    • @kaitlynhooks
      @kaitlynhooks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed! I once heard that all babies/toddlers have the same huge grab bag of developments and skills to choose from, and each child will pull different skills from the bag at different times but they will all get where they need to go. It helped me a lot to stop comparing and worrying about my 16 month old (of course trusting mommy intuition and getting anything checked at the dr that really is a concern)! I hope it helps anyone else reading too 😊

      I agree! My daughter was advanced in speech and could identify shapes and count to 10 by 1 but was behind with physical strength and didn't walk or climb things until much later. They're all so different!

    Hey Brittany! You probably have been told this, but on the chance you have not, when you find a good endo doc, ask about Hashimoto disease. Everything you mention aligns with the symptoms described about your thyroid especially the goider. A friend of mine actually was diagnosed a few years ago with it and the whole time she thought she had hyperthyroidism as well. I’m not a doctor but I do just some knowledge of this from her. Hope this helps in anyway.

    I also live alone with my 15 month daughter and her speech seems to be taking longer then I would like, lol. I recently found out about Ms. Rachel and have been letting her watch that in hopes she can pick up some key and VERY useful words (i.e. hungry, food, more, yes, no) Anything to help make this journey with her alone easier, pleeeeease! It is so frustrating to us both not knowing how to help her 🧡

    @allie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think arrow is right where she needs to be. One thing that I have always loved and appreciated about my pediatrician is that she has consistently told me to not compare my child to other children. My sister and I had daughters five days apart. Both of them went through the stages of infancy to becoming a toddler polar opposite from one another. One would be a great eater while the other was terrible. One bottle-fed and the other breastfed. Never the same weight or height. One slept amazingly through the night and the other could barely make it to 2 hours before waking.
    When it came to speech it was the same thing. One started using words earlier while the other took a little longer. they both grew up are during the pandemic, are 2 1/2, and lost most of that interaction with other toddlers/ infants during the pandemic. I do think it makes it difficult for children, but I also think children most of the time, "do" when they are ready.
    This also may be a highly frowned upon suggestion, but my daughter did use an iPad to YES watch youtube, but also to play games. We found so many different ones with words, numbers, letters, colors, music, animals, you name it. We also tried, like you said, to speak straight to her face so she could see us speak as much as possible and I read at least a book or 2 a night with her before going to bed. I'd like to believe that some of these things were a little bit helpful during a time when interacting with others was pretty much nonexistent.
    You are killing it though with being a parent. Arrow is smart, loved, happy. Just remember all kids have their own time. Sorry for the explosive amount of info.

    Hey mama! We love Ms. Rachel in our house. I also highly recommend baby flashcards off of Amazon. Doing the same thing Ms Rachel does I focus on phonetics and have my baby "watch mama" while I exaggerate and sound things out. It's really helped eased my fears and help me know I'm doing everything I can to help him see facial movements and mouths. Also facetiming everybody you can so she can watch different faces. Don't stress it though she'll get there.

    Re crawling out of crib: we had to switch my son to a toddler bed and we put a gate on his door, that way when he goes to bed we locked the gate, and when he wakes up it’s fine if he plays in his room until he calls for us, but he can’t run around freely in the house without supervision!

    If you need to you should be able to return the set still just include the tags in the return they don’t have to be attached still.
    Also, I’m pregnant with my first and have been looking into Montessori. It may be a lot of set up work at first, but you could look at the way they do sleep arrangements. The bell is also a great idea.

    My baby is currently 16, almost 17 months. My husband and I made it a high priority for her to be socialized despite the pandemic. We made sure we visited close friends and family often (given that everyone was healthy and no reason to suspect being contagious). It may be considered irresponsible, but I knew she had a healthy immune system and her chances of being badly affected by "c" were slim. I'm not saying they're necessarily connected, but her vocabulary is extraordinary. She can repeat almost any word and can say almost everything when she wants it. It really makes toddler life easier when they can articulate what they want/need.
    But it's important to remember that every baby accelerates at the different developments (social, emotional, mental and physical) at different rates. Being high in one area will mean being slower in another. My daughter's physical development was slower as a result.
    I would just recommend playdates and family get-togethers whenever it's realistic and feasible!

    I wouldn’t like to irritate or offend anyone but I really need to say it. Every day there is more research about screens being a huge reason for speech delays. I’m also a mother and I know exactly how hard and boring it is to raise a child without TV and phones BUT it is worth it. This is no blaming, there are many kids who talk just fine after being exposed to screens. However there’s the risk of it triggering a predisposition for late talking which is already there. Again, I know how it is and that it’s a matter of survival and your head not exploding.

    As everyone has said, weirdly at the start of the PANINI I also found Songs for Littles aka Ms Rachel and gosh...it really made a difference. Same for Baby Signing time. I never knew how great these videos were until I was actually seeing the science behind it so I think I lucked out. Signing Time also is a Ms Rachael lol! Ms. Chelsea is decent too.
    My girlie is a month behind yours but she's stringing together small sentences, talks a lot, and still signs for everything as well. My child has always loved Ms Rachel from the start. I think that you shouldn't worry though because if you think about it from past perspectives, like 1800s and during plague times etc we are all going through the same thing. I think sometimes there can be benefits to mainly being around all adults and more alone time even if there are concerns with speech delays on your end. She will be prepped to be happy with small things and playing at home. I think those are really important qualities to have especially with how bad things are in the world. Finding the happiness in small daily activities is truly life changing and in some ways can prepare you for any hardships in the future. I've noticed during the PANINI those always having to be extroverted or having to "not be bored" constantly really suffered more. (This isn't even including all the other world traumas lol. 🙃)

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and I am struggling because I have a hard time losing weight and always having such an extreme between being hot to cold. pregnant with #3 currently and final pregnancy. Hoping everything will regulate after several years of no babies lol!
    Also for Arrow not speaking I just wanted to let you know I went through this with my oldest. We ended up doing EI services until he was 3 and then soon as we stopped he started talking LOL, my youngest soon to be middle kiddo will be 2 in April and she says maybe 20+ words and I even get told that's not enough... I 100% have been feeling the same way about my daughters speech progress! She’s one day older than arrow. We just started speech therapy just to get some tips on how to help her learn and it’s been so good! The main things she’s said to do are to be extremely repetitive and to teach sign language at the same time as words! And give her a reason to speak, so like if she’s pulling toys out of a bucket, hold it and have her say/sign “more” and then give them to her! Or with snacks, don’t immediately open it, try to get her to say “open” and then open it.

    Hi Brittany,
    My son is an only child and also a “pandemic baby”(14 months). I have actively been seeking ways to improve my sons speech. First, check out “Jady A” on TH-cam I’ve learned a lot from her in toddler/infant education points. In the last week I’ve noticed huge improvement from simply implementing the following: 1. limiting time I give attention to screens while he is awake; 2. Using “my first _______ by DK touch and feel” flash cards(it builds his vocabulary, and works his memory when I “test” him on them); in books I point out specific pictures and prompt him to point at them and repeat what I say(it takes a few tries); I narrate EVERYTHING we do ALL DAY; I practice letter sounds using homemade letter flashcards(black and white a, b, c etc. no decorations or colors super simple), to expose him to each specific letter sound which should be a great foundation for future reading.
    P.S. I’ll be honest I am a nerd when it comes to teaching I studied early childhood education and human learning development in college waiting for the day I would be able to implement it in a classroom or my own children. I gave birth to my son my second to last semester, so he is my first official student lol. Another tip is to wean her off the pacifier so she naturally has freedom to speak whenever. After I weaned my son off of his pacifier he began to communicate verbally more. It takes time, patience, and consistency!

    Hi, don’t worry about Arrow. She’s doing just fine. My daughter only said 10 words up until she was 2. Then when she turned 27 months old she literally just talked non stop. It was literally overnight. She’s about to be 2 1/2 and she doesn’t stay quiet 🤫 😆😂
    Read read read to her and make her communicate with you on a daily basis. Even if it sounds silly. Point out things while driving, when reading ask her what objects are on the pages etc. 😊

    I have been watching you since we were both pregnant during the pandemic and i just wanted to say that you are an AMAZING momma and I have loved watching your little girl grow up.
    Besides that, I work as a psychologist and specialize in identifying speech impairments, Autism, ADHD, and a lot of other disabilities in kids. To echo what others have commented, all children develop on their own time and you are doing everything you can (reading, talking to her, etc.). Children born during the pandemic have (in general) shown a little slower development in some areas compared to others for so many reasons. Also- If you didn't talk until 3 years old, there is a higher chance that Arrow's speech could follow a similar pattern. Nothing is set in stone. You might want to look up the CDC milestones based on her age to see if she is behind on 1-2 areas and you can always request a speech evaluation if you are interested in knowing if she's "behind." I would not sweat it, but ignoring it is not advisable... 90% of a child's brain development happens in the first five years, and I ALWAYS tell parents to get extra support in the early years because it can make SO much more of a difference for the rest of their lives, if they get some speech therapy or whatever they need in their younger years. Just some food for thought. You are an inspiration, momma!

    On speech with panini babies: my son was born October 2020 - so a couple months younger than Arrow.
    We've definitely noticed that he's not hitting his speech milestones. He's been "ahead" in his motor skills (walked at 9mo, good coordination, very good with picking up new motor skills etc), but only has a couple words - and even then doesn't talk often at all.
    I'm at SAHM, and make an effort to talk to him, read him books, etc, and when my partner comes home from work he does the same - but he's never had the chance to see other kids, or many other people (and even then mostly masked).
    His dr isn't super concerned - he's obviously understanding us, knows what we're talking about/asking him (if we ask him to put a toy away he will, or will get a specific book or toy, will sign that's he's hungry or thirsty, etc) he just doesn't want to speak yet.
    His dr has said it's completely normal (even before panini times) for some kids to hold off on speaking till around 3 - especially if they've found other ways to communicate with their caregivers.
    One thing she told me that made me cry a bit was that I'm still doing an amazing job. My child is still smart, and perfect, and able to understand what is happening and to communicate non-verbally. We're all doing our best, and our children will still be ok even if they take longer to speak. It doesn't mean we aren't interacting with them enough, or doing anything wrong.
    Obviously, bring it up to your child's dr (I'm speaking to everyone reading this) if you have specific concerns, but don't stress it. The milestone guidelines are just guidelines - and speech isn't the only way to communicate (as much as I wish my son would just talk when I know he knows the words rather than pointing, grunting, going "eeh", or using hand signs, at least he has found ways to communicate his needs to me regardless of if anyone else is able to understand).

    My daughter is 3 weeks younger then Arrow, she is bilingual and I'm alone with her during the week. She doesn't have any screen time, NO Tv !!!! I do mostly Montessori with her and also her favorite thing is BOOK. I talk non stop to her in Hungarian ever since she was born. Her vocabulary now is over 300 words, she speaks in full sentences and tells us nursery rhymes.

Use to say dog but kind of forgot there’s definitely other words but not continuously. You’re doing great!!!!

    You could also try using a crib net to keep Arrow from climbing out! They have them on Amazon for about $60-$70. I got one to keep my cat from getting into the crib and laying with my 5 month old 🤦🏼‍♀️ it works great tho and I think the actual intention of it is to keep your baby from climbing out

    I think the talking thing is absolutely legit. My sisters baby girl was born June 2020 and doesn’t say very many words at all. She says duck, yaya (which they think means grandma) and a few other things but she just kind of yells a lot. I think it’s absolutely from the pandemic and not being around people. My baby is only 6 months so we’ll see if it’s true for him too. Also, sending lots of love you find an endocrinologist!!! I have hypothyroidism and I thought literally I was just getting old and tired and achy but it turns out my thyroid was way out of wack and medicine helps tremendously. Based on what you’re describing it absolutely sounds like hyperthyroidism (the weight loss, even you mentioned feeling anxious at times). I really hope you find someone who will listen and help you 💜

    Trust your body. Trust your gut. Find a different doctor. If all of your tests keep coming back normal maybe you have something called “thyroid storm”. Basically at different times you will all of a sudden get a rush of your thyroid hormone. So maybe try to get a test done while your showing these symptoms? Have you gotten a nuclear medicine I123 capsule study? I am a nuclear medicine technologist and we have a good test for this. The prep is: no multivitamin with iodine for a week. No seafood or shell fish for a week, no CT scan with contest in the last 6 weeks. It’s a 2 day test but it does tell a lot about the function of your thyroid. And you could get a CT scan after this test too to get a really detailed look. Good luck!

    My oldest turned 2 in January and when she was 18 months old I just felt like she wasn't using a lot of words. She understands everything so well but just really wouldn't say much! Her pediatrician wasn't too worried and said that she would probably explode between 1.5-2 but that she would do a SLP referral if I wanted her to. I went ahead and did it and at the initial eval they said the same- that she will likely emerge soon but we could start with 30 min sessions once a week. Let me tell you, I am so glad we started!!! She loves, loves, loves going to speech and all it is is through playing at this age. It has helped me SO MUCH too with how I can learn to help her. I love watching the sessions every week and how far she has come! Would she be where she is now without going? Maybe? But it definitely hasn't hurt. It has helped her have more interaction with others. Our poor pandemic babies were given the short end of the stick for sure being stuck inside and away from others for so long. But, that has just been life and we all are just doing the best we can! Arrow is extremely smart and she has an awesome mama to help her along! Just wanted to give my story and say that if you ever feel like she would benefit from speech therapy don't stress it and just do it!

    I started loosing a lot of weight around 6-8 months pp and I didn’t even notice it because I ate like a pig but when I went to my 8th month pp checkup my blood test showed hyperthyroidism and I had to be tested all the time after I got diagnosed and it messed up my heart, my heart rate was up to 120-130 per minute just sitting down and I had to be put on heart medicine for 3 years. I don’t take it anymore because my hyper thyroid healed up on its own. When I got tested again, my blood levels were back to normal. But i do have to have regular check ups to check my thyroid levels because it can make you feel very sick and tired.
    If it doesn’t show up in your blood, then I don’t think you have any thyroid issue unless it’s coming from a different cause. Stress/anxiety can cause weight loss. I hope you get your answers :) and hope your staying safe.

I have suffered chronic pain for 13 plus years and it was only after the first 8 years that I found a gp who found me a specialist who could give me answers. So many tests and so much money and nothing in the first 8 years and then answers. Don’t give up. It’s a matter of finding the right gp / specialist who hears you and aligns with what you’re saying 🙏🏻

    Take her to a dentist that specializes in tongue-tie. Not all of them have the knowledge. So I will suggest a breastfeeding group, I know you don’t breastfeed anymore but usually they have references. Tongue-tie restricts the tongue’s movement, and many letters you need to use your tongue etc. Usually the first signs of tongue-tie in babies is painful breastfeeding 🤱!

    Did you get a thyroid test when you were pregnant? I feel like they only do a full blood work when you are pregnant or whatever rather just in the day to day life. I have hashimotos which was diagnosed when I was pregnant. I got put on levothyroxine and I feel so much better! However I developed a goiter too but once they upped my meds it gradually shrunk (it’s still there). Also I’ve heard caffeine can make thyroid symptoms worse, it definitely makes me anxious if I have too much or at the wrong time of day. Sorry for going off on a tangent and I hope this makes sense and you get some answers soon!

    You can apply for early intervention with her pediatrician. My 15 month old has a very strong vocabulary over 30 words easy and even phrases. We are bilingual so she knows both languages. Flash cards, lots of reading daily, and sesame street. When you speak to her encourage her to answer back with open ened questions. Then answer for her so she can then repeat. Also encourage her to speak by giving her time to respond and rewarding. So if you ask her "want a snack" don't just let her grab it you state what the options are, repeat slowly mouthing the sounds. Once she chooses you repeat the word again. Finally thank yourself for her. So basically talk for yourself and her, then mouth slowly what you want her to repeat, end with praise when she does.

    Hope you get some clarity from the endo specialist! I lost a lot of weight last year due to stress and anxiety and was concerned because I was still very slim even after eating what I previously had done in a day (2,000).. I was referred to a dietician who had me up my calories by at least 500, so I now consume 2,500 a day which is working for me to regain the weight I had lost.

    Try to ditch the pacifier- it inhibits them from making random “babbling” sounds. Also songs with a lot of gestures are really helpful/ repetition with songs and sound are super helpful and yes, letting them see your mouth moving whilst reading book/singing/saying words is very helpful and how they learn-hope this helps. All kids are different but some tips that may work :)

They will be able to do more detailed testing now that you’re not breastfeeding the numbers will be more accurate readings on your blood work. Maybe a pain management doctor in case of Graves’ disease

    Also, same about the toddler-speaking thing, my 3 year old started talking much earlier and more words at a younger age than my 1.5 year old is right now. So she is exposed to more conversation. But I’ve also noticed that she isn’t very conversational. She will babble your ear off but when it comes to actually saying words were not quite there yet. Hey, just wanted to say I have an 18 month old and I also am a stay at home/work from home mom. I have noticed too that other kids the same age are talking way more than my little guy. It’s the same situation it’s not that I’m worried about his speech necessarily because he babbles a lot and he does say words but it’s definitely not as much as others. I do think unfortunately it’s a side effect of the pandemic and having to wear masks. I also notice that kids social interactions have changed not seeing each other’s faces and/or not being able to play together like in pre-pandemic times. Hopefully as we are moving forward from the pandemic some of these issues will sort themselves out!
