I explain why I stopped using the word "God" to describe anything correlated with a reality outside of our own minds, pending evidence that would persuade me to do so.

"God is a feeling"
Today, that is one of the most common reasons people believe in god. They think they "feel" it.
Have you felt it? If say people think they feel it, you're being rather close minded than open minded. You're probably more of an anti theist than an atheist
Oscar Rivas if you say*
Oscar Rivas The problem is that Christians believe they have felt God tell them that Jesus is the only way, and that Christianity is the only true religion. Muslims believe that God has told them through their feelings that Islam is the only true religion. Mormons have a similar belief, and Jehovah's Witnesses, Buddhists, all have had similar feelings. These feelings can not all be valid, as the claims are generally mutually exclusive.
mathewfinch well have you read their holy books, do their actions reflect their books?
I don't know how to explain it, its a really hard question to answer
I wonder if, some day, neuropsychology textbooks will have a definition like this:
GOD (noun): an ancient term to anthropomorphize the anxiety produced in the right amygdala of the brain and reinforced by the hippocampus.
That's brilliant.
This is one of my favorite series on TH-cam. I love how you use color to distinguish different religions, I'm a big fan of using visuals like that to explain things.
This was fucking beautiful. If any of this had been used to convince me to stay Christian, it probably would have worked because ultimately it describes a beautiful and hopeful image of humanity. The idea that "god" is just a feeling, but a ultimate feeling of awe and wonder, says so much about the human spirit. Thanks for sharing this :3
you've summed up beautifully, what conclusions I also came to through years of careful research and introspection. I found this very informative and interesting, and the music for it was not intrusive and was very suiting for the tone of the vid. good job, loved it.
It is important to stop using the word God. It is the ultimate wiggle word.
@Rakscha But there is no evidence of such.
I think "God" should be replaced with "I don't know". God and religion have always been used to make it sound like someone knows what they are talking about but don't. Whenever I hear someone saying "God" I hear: "I don't know what I'm talking about but I want to make it sound like I do"
@@fireblade2681 I never felt connected to the “God” of religion, especially monotheism.
I have been following your videos from the beginning of this series. Every time I see you have uploaded a new part I get excited to click and watch! I hope to see a new upload soon!
Fantastic series of videos, I can relate to many of the thought processes, realisations and experiences you have documented so far. I sincerely thank you for taking the time to create these videos - good to know theres more of us and we're not alone. :)
Thanks, Evid3nc3, for the great videos! I've been watching them for a while now, and I can say that this one really hit home for me. I have come to the conclusion that I want to base my beliefs, thoughts and views on the world not on an irrational deity, but on evidence, reason and truth. Keep up the great work, I love them. Thank you!
Interestingly when you look at say Catholic art, music and rituals they all help to enhance that "religious" god feeling. The mystical feeling. The architecture, the intricate harmony of 18th century religious music, the power of the brutal depictions of Christ. It asll helps enhance or create that intense feeling inside tgat makes one feel religious as if there is a god present. People often say that about Bach's music. So perhaps you've hit the nail on the head. God is a feeling inside our heads that some people experience and describe as gods presence. Whereas others experience it as simply a feeling.
Well said. This gets overlooked so much, and many people take it for granted, and it often goes unnoticed in debates and arguments.
I am rewatching your series after a year... this is still one of the greatest TH-cam videos I have ever watched. Your story and the way you tell it is amazing.
Or is "god" just a human concept that continues to evolve as the human race evolves...
***** God is a psychological weapon meant to oppress peoples and estrange them from their natural gods (their national heroes, their peculiarities and place within the natural order of things).
The universal god is the first Communism, the first imperialism, where the mind of peoples are homogenized into slave cattle for the benefit of the god-makers, the Archons on earth.
DChatc Ah, no.
+WWZenaDo "God is an ever-receding pocket of scientific ignorance that’s getting smaller and smaller and smaller as time moves on " - Neil Degrasse Tyson. Human Beings cannot seem to answer two questions.
1. How did we get here?
2. What happens to us when we die?
This is where God is asserted the most. God is simply the unknown.
Big bang and evolution is a religion.
Check.
How can the view numbers drop so much from part one to part 2? That is so sad to me. This 3 part vid is one of THE best I have ever seen and I am a 60 year theological student.
I am looking forward to your next video. Your journey is fascinating!
These two videos were among the most amazing I've seen to date. Favorited and shared, and will be referenced back to!
its beautiful how everytime i revisit this series, my life progresses just as yours did post-deconversion. thank you so much for having composed this masterpiece
Why would god ( unknown essence ) directly create beings that is limited to comprehend it and want to have a "relationship" with it ?
Not to mention omnipotent .
When I was teaching a 5th grade science lesson years ago I made a big fireball, and one of the boys was so excited he yelled "Do it again and again until we are dead!" That's pretty much how I feel when I see your videos. Especially the part when you tie it back to evidence and your channel logo. This is so reflective and articulate.
I cannot thank you enough for making this series of videos. I, like so many others it seems, have thought myself totally alone in these feelings. I have spent two years dealing with my deconversion. It is almost as if you've made me understand what I've understood all along, if that makes any sense.
60 people have no idea.
By now it has risen up to 5'518. XD
This is an EXCELLENT series. Thank-you so much for sharing. The very concept of god leaves us in darkness and self-imposed ignorance. Someday, I hope, everyone will break free from it. In the meantime, spread the good word that we are free, we are conscious, we are free moral agents, and we are capable of wonderful things!
Noooooo!!! I just came across this series tonight and have spent I don't know how long watching the whole series...couldn't take my eyes off the screen...absolutely brilliant and well done! I'm on my own journey to truth (which is how I landed here) and you've given me a few additional awesome books to read. I impatiently await your next video!
This was a really neat video. I'm certain a lot of people can relate to the different phases of the author's thought process in his search, and the various considerations that genuine honest inquiry inevitably led him along his way. Very cool video. I'm looking forward to watching Part III.
@HassanAlHajry
"Which man on the 7th centry went into the deepest ocean where he can't see his hands?"
Hassan, walk over to an ocean and look down into it. Does it look like there is light down there? You don't have to have deep-sea diving equipment to see that the bottom of the ocean is dark. All you have to do is dive in, open your eyes and look down.
Your views are extremely interesting. They've inspired me to do my own deep research of religion and the origins of religion.
Hi Dylan McElveen 5 years....how did you get on? Did you do your research into the origins of religion & come to any conclusions?
7 years later… I’d love to know’n going through my own de conversion in the last year from EXJW, to CHRISTIAN, to EX CHRISTIAN, and now finding the path to freedom
Man it's like you picked your music straight from my Pandora station. Great videos!
You got a new sub within 10 minutes. Very sincere and well spoken. Good job.

@HassanAlHajry
Surah 24:14
"We made the sperm into clot" , "that clot We made a (foetus) lump"
This is pretty unambiguously embryologically wrong. There is no mention of the sperm intersecting the egg. Saying the sperm was formed directly into anything is incorrect.
This is a lie. That isn't surah 24:14 this is:"Had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you in this world and the Hereafter, you would have certainly been touched with a tremendous punishment for what you plunged into"-
Edit: the irony
Actually that is your interpretation. In the actual translation the word "nutfatun" means a drop of fluid in Arabic not sperm specifically. You can check any textbook of embryology that the egg itself is also not solid in state. It's not unambiguous it's a bad translation. Check on Google if you can. A drop of fluid can mean zygote or fertilized egg or sperm or embryo in general. It's a general term. Also I find it funny that atheists are trying to sell ice to the eskimos
I like the music. You did a nice job editing. What has grabbed my attention at this point is the chronological historical argument and not so much the JEDP theory as I tend to disagree with you there. But I have been taking a closer look at history objectively lately and do see that I require further examination on the same. I truly appreciate your openness.
Love your videos. Keep 'em coming. Your story is quite compelling, and the thoughtful reflection and evid3nc3 you use is always enjoyable. Hopefully a theist or two will see your series and start to seriously think about their beliefs, rather than simply accept what they are being told.
As an atheist, I like seeing people like you who can calmly and clearly communicate the stance that so many people (on both sides) foam at the mouth over.
Also, thumbs up on your graphical work.
Again well made
I cannot believe this series is not getting millions of hits!
Thank you for this video series. It is a fascinating look into your own process of deconversion. It is even giving me more insight into my own deconversion, a process that I put barely any thought into until long after it was finished.
Very, very well done set of videos. Thank you for your time in putting these together!
This video went downhill fast on part 2. The first one was an interesting description of how a religion transformed from a polytheistic into monotheistic one. This part is pretty much just your personal journey discovering your perception of god.
that's sort of what the whole series was about, aside from the video that you mentioned.
I agree, I was hoping for more of the history. But I still like his vids, they're great.
Your an idiot
Shane Holly that wasn't necessary
Shane Holly
You're
All these concepts of god are just fuzzy abstractions -- playing with words. None of them matter a whit. They are just ways of categorising extremely large categories, including things that are not real.
I'm incredibly happy this is up; this is one of the best channels on youtube.
This continues to be the most honest, fair, illuminating, gripping, well-produced deconversion series on the internet.
Evid3nc3
You may be interested to know that Inspiring Philosophy has been critiquing this video on his channel with friends. The video / podcasts lasts for over an hour and consists of people critiquing your work and then patting each other the back for doing a good job. This just sounds like IP and others knee jerking against this video.
Anyway, I have created quite a stir over there with him and others by pointing out the fallacies in IP's arguments and the fact his critique lacks any robustness.
Go take a look and see what you think.
I saw that this video had been posted. I can't say I'm interested in investing my time in a video that is over an hour long before it has been any significant validation or following from the public. Thanks to you and a few others for doing the dirty work of walking through and critiquing it.
Evid3nc3
No worries. His followers are naturally delighted with IPs 'rebuttal', presumably because your video struck a raw nerve that caused a lot of them some discomfort. IP and his guest's reasoning is predictably deeply flawed, though they have managed to insulate themselves in a cocoon of self congratulatory back patting coupled with a set of unfalsifiable claims I'm not sure even they understand. IP's main rebuttal technique seems to be by shifting the burden of proof and pointing his critics to irrelevant videos.
Neither works, which makes him cross, which you can tell when he begins responding non factually.
Evid3nc3 Hey I wanted to ask you if you will ever make any more videos. They are truly inspiring and great and I miss your videos. If I had a wish, it would be for you to return once again someday. I love what is already here but I wish there would be a way to hear more of your thoughts in some way. =)
Evid3nc3 I've been giving IP a hard time and so have a few others, even some theists who think his rebuttal is sloppy and amateurish. IP seems to want to give the impression that he holds his beliefs for rational reasons, but when pushed it seems like little more than an exercise in bias confirmation.
He has done some stupid stuff with QM and has developed an entire theory of idealism that is founded on a profound misconception of QM theory and especially a profound misunderstanding of the observer effect.
At one time, this kind of stuff would annoy me because it was 'wrong' pretending to be clever and reasoned when that was the last thing it actually was. The man is like teflon: specifically, that reason doesn't seem to stick or have any traction whatsoever. He'll try and head you off with irrelevant references and what would otherwise elsewhere be called twaddle.
Out of interest, do you sympathise with where he is coming from, I mean in terms of his being a believer?
+Plastic Vision Seems to me he has created quite a stir in you from reading these comments, I watched these videos that +Evid3nc3 made and found them quite shallow and lacking in actual evidence, they were very well done, I especial liked the graphic in part one but the problem is that they are full of huge sweeping generalization and a lack of real understanding of the narrative in the Torah
Totally agree, there are no gods but there are spirit entities who wish to be thought of as gods
Crazy person alert
klaus lothaire please stop trying to project your psychological problems onto others
Elizheva Lau I don't know klaus, but he seems stable. You claimed that spirit entities exist and wish to be thought of as gods. Source?
Explain this to me, spir·it

"harmony between body and spirit" Sorry to burst your bubble but humans don't have souls. If you would like to point out where a soul is in the human anatomy please do with evidence. Otherwise consider it a concept like deity s.
and your verifiable, falsifiable demonstrably highly probabilistic evidence is ? ? ?
Very excellent stuff, this and it's part 1. Pt 1 is something I've been looking for a well layed out description of for some time. Thanks.. Funny the silouettes you choose for the gods. You did pronounce Asherah, Baal, Marduk and Tiamat wrong, but I can forgive you that. ; ) Well done.
@deannapacheco
That's a tough position to be in, but I think I know exactly how you feel. I am encouraged to know you found the videos helpful. It makes me glad I put the time into making them. I hope the book and the continued series helps.
Even Einstein understood the idea of a personal God makes absolutely no sense.
+Mswordx23 he mentioned god but not as we know it , read more about the subject he him self mocks the act of believing .
He used the word god as a metaphor. As we also do sometimes. Religion is (unfortunately) a part of our history so it became a part of our language. I am trying to pay attention to not to refer to anything as god.
The way you say "even Einstein" seems weird. The name "Einstein" is basically synonymous with "genius." If anybody could be expected to understand something, it would be an Einstein.
Instead of speaking about what you "Believe" Einstein Understood,
It is better to speak of what Einstein Actually STATED
Which was that Athiesm makes absolutely no sense. It was abhorrent to him.
“Behind all the discernible concatenations, there remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable. Veneration for this force is my religion. To that extent, I am in point of fact, religious.”[8]
“Every scientist becomes convinced that the laws of nature manifest the existence of a spirit vastly superior to that of men.”[9]
“Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe - a spirit vastly superior to that of man.”[10]
“The divine reveals itself in the physical world.”[11]
“My God created laws… His universe is not ruled by wishful thinking but by immutable laws.”[12]
“I want to know how God created this world. I want to know his thoughts.”[13]
“What I am really interested in knowing is whether God could have created the world in a different way.”[14]
“This firm belief in a superior mind that reveals itself in the world of experience, represents my conception of God.”[15]
“My religiosity consists of a humble admiration of the infinitely superior spirit, …That superior reasoning power forms my idea of God.”
Travis D "atheism was abhorrent to him" that's just your opinion... the quotes you presented clearly shows he used god as a metaphor for the laws of universe.
but if you're not convinced yet, here's some more...
"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weakness, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still purely primitive, legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation, no matter how subtle, can change this for me"
www.lettersofnote.com/2009/10/word-god-is-product-of-human-weakness.html
"Though the child of entirely irreligious (Jewish) parents, I came to a deep religiousness, which, however, reached an abrupt end at the age of twelve. Through the reading of popular scientific books I soon reached the conviction that much in the stories of the Bible could not be true. The consequence was a positively fanatic [orgy of] freethinking coupled with the impression that youth is intentionally being deceived by the state through lies; it was a crushing impression. Mistrust of every kind of authority grew out of this experience [...] an attitude that has never again left me."
“The idea of a personal God is quite alien to me and seems even naïve.”
-Albert Einstein --- To Beatrice Frohlich, December 17, 1952. AEA59-797
"I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms." ~Albert Einstein, obituary in New York Times, 19 April 1955
"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." ~Albert Einstein, 1954, from "Albert Einstein: The Human Side", edited by Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, Princeton University Press
"To be sure, the doctrine of a personal God interfering with the natural events could never be refuted, in the real sense, by science, for this doctrine can always take refuge in those domains in which scientific knowledge has not yet been able to set foot. But I am persuaded that such behaviour on the part of the representatives of religion would not only be unworthy but also fatal. For a doctrine which is able to maintain itself not in clear light but only in the dark, will of necessity lose its effect on mankind, with incalculable harm to human progress." ~Albert Einstein, "Science, Philosophy, and Religion, A Symposium", published by the Conference on Science, Philosophy and Religion in Their Relation to the Democratic Way of Life, Inc., New York, 1941
"I cannot conceive of a personal God who would directly influence the actions of individuals, or would directly sit in judgment on creatures of his own creation." ~ Albert Einstein, from "Albert Einstein: The Human Side", edited by Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, Princeton University Press
Part one was very interesting as it was a history of God.
This seems to be a history of you deconversion and evolution, a personal history. A personal journey and so not very interesting to me. I got up and walked out of church at age 15 in the middle of a sermon on original sin. I had an epiphany, saw through the bullshit, never went back
Luckystrike sounds like you wrote about your personal journey also which isn't very interesting to me.
fifteen seems to be that age when boys can no longer be held back from finding the truth,, be it is there a God, or what's in Suzie's pants.
@ProfMTH
Thanks! Glad to hear that you were able to relate to the discussion.
Evid3nc3 ---- I recognize the voice, so, I hope I am using your correct title. I am thankful that I encountered you and your videos several years ago. During my 50 years of desperate search for ' God ', I have studied much of the same material that you have studied and are presenting. Unfortunately, I am pened-down by Social Security, and I am unable to support your much needed work. Never-the-less, I shall donate something. When I studied your first video, and then you disappeared for a while, I was very depressed. Delighted to have found you again. ---- Joseph
Seemed to be a bit of disconnect between first part and second part i.e. objective/subjective. Almost like he's in a hurry to finish it. I liked it a lot though.
Daniel Staples I think he's taking the idea of "god" too much at face value here. He just showed quite obviously (though nuanced, he didn't explicitly describe it as such) that the god of the bible is simply a propagandistic device meant to embody a new and virulent radical nationalism amongst the peoples of Canaan in the wake of the Assyrian conquest, and to this day essentially is used much the same way.
Daniel Staples Isaiah, Hosea, Ezekiel et al clearly knew what their Yahweh was, when you read them you see the works of politically wise social engineers who are specifically trying to create a new order of things.
They knew full well that their yahweh was just a rhetorical device, they wheren't stupid, they where political theorists who where attempting to create a nation of conquerors who would rival even the Assyrians.
Thumbs up to infinity for this.
Evid3nc3, You are one of the best spokespeople for ration I have ever met (digitally).
I usually *listen* to your videos through my smartphone while driving. It's a treat to be able to watch them. (I love videos that can stand on their audio merits as well as their visual ones.)
Question: when you show the image of Newton and the formulas relevant to his findings, did you *choose* the order? Reading from top to bottom, I see "FINGR", as if reinforcing that Newton looked for the finger of god.
i just wanna say that i´ve watched almost all your videos and of all the things in them there are rwo that make me say "tip of the hat to you sir", wich are: the video editing is awesome and well putted together, and the background music definitely makes all the difference. Without these two features, it would be really hard to get through all the reasoning, data and emotions you are trying to put on your videos.
"Don't worry,...*God* doesn't *believe* in *your ass either*!" lol
what?
Tyler Chott An "atheist" is a combination of "a"(negative, no) & "theos"(god) right? "A-theist" = "no god?" The word entails that something that exists(a god) is something u want to negate, or don't want to acknowledge exists! lol That's oxymoronic! Emphasis on MORON! lol
No. Theist is a beleif in god. So an atheist is someone who does not believe in a god. Which is much different than claiming there is no god. And you just made the claim that a god exists... Which there is no proof of. So please calm down on the name calling. Be nice.
Tyler Chott "atheos" (ἄθεος, from the privative ἀ- + θεός "god") means "godless", or those who are "without a god." NOT that there is "no god!" lol Not matter how u try to rationalize it, the etymology of the word proves how asinine people who adopt this title are! Get over it dude! lol
A god may exist but there's no proof that a god DOES exist.
Your videos always have such high production value. Combine that with the calm and/or sexy voice you've got, and bam, recipe for awesome. I think I'll go sub now.
After watching countless videos to date, I have to say: I've watched so many videos by both atheists and theists who eagerly tell you what they think, but yours and yours stand alone as ones that are thoughtful, not judgmental; introspective, not aggressive; meaningful, not pithy; and personal, telling me how you are, rather than telling me how I should be. You have some of the finest videos I've seen on TH-cam, and you deserve all the kudos you get. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Coming back to these videos so many years after I watched them for the first time. Thank you so much for helping me through my deconversion.
I am again impressed by your production in this video series. I like how clear and uncontroversial your dialogue is. No "theist" should find any of this "offensive" and get turned off, nor should any theist find anything to DISAGREE with here.
Great job.
Once again, a splendid video. This series has helped me think, especially the part about the history of God. Combined with some realizations about neurology, and reading the sceptics annotated bible, my atheism has grown stronger, although I still have troubles avoiding the status quo of believing in God, it being my childhood and all. I hope I will find more informative places in the future, especially about the origins of judaism.
Good job !!! I trowed up twice and my head hurts... Well that´s a big pack of information and a really nice way of analysing our religious history. Big thanks to you Sir !
Never trust a written word more than your own loving heart. Ez !
Starting around 4:00 you used "Any Other Name" -- wonderful song! Oh, also I like your videos, but yeah, song!
Firstly, great video series. Wow. Someone mentioned this being produced as a documentary meant for tv mini-series/movie. I'd go see it again =D Great work! I too started life out as a Christian, though with nowhere near the devotion you had. But my belief didn't last long as I quickly started seeing contradictions that upset me, even on a very basic level. Keep up the work! This is a treasure chest amongst youtube videos. Also, love the musical choices; renaissance, the fountain, barber, trance!
I met people who read every page of the Bible [I mean every single one x-x;], but what baffles me is that they don't question at least a few parts of it that seemed "odd".
Thanks for this video, it really opened my eyes on how monotheism as we know today came to be.
Excellent, excellent, excellent.
As a believer, one of my favorite passages of scripture came from the speech the author of Acts attributed to Paul at the Areopagus: "In Him we live and move and have our being" (17:28). So much of what you said here reminded me of my evidence-free embracing of that notion and the process of parting with it.
Your videos kick my ass. Thank you. I link back to you from my articles.
Love the videos sir!
When is the next video?
@TheSkeptitcherRebbe
If you refer to the conversation with WaysOfMan, we discussed this issue.
Thanks for the compliments!
@Evid3nc3 I thoroughly enjoy each of these videos. I would like to ask you something wich goes back to a previous video that I watched. It relates to the video where you called your father to ask for advice, wich in turn was inadequate to change your changing mind. You haven`t mentioned anything after that engagement. Have you told your parents about your new found beliefs? If so how did they react?
@blublu451, thanks so much for the information. I added the book you recommended to my amazon wish list (I have a lot to read but I will get to it as soon as I can!). Also, I definitely looked up and researched some of the verses you pointed out. Here are some of my thoughts:
-Ezekiel 5:9-10 was a prophesy made by God that the Israelites would engage in cannibalism, but not necessarily His approval of the practice.
@Evid3nc3 Hey, maybe I'm weird... Maybe. But this VOICE of yours...! I could listen to you all day. Actually, I had your playlist on last night while I while asleep (well, the sleeping part was an accident, no offence ;D) and I slept like a baby. Smooooth...
@TheSkeptitcherRebbe
Well, it's a video, not a wiki article, so obviously I can't "remove the text". But I will add a note in the video description. If you look at the context of the passage Armstrong has been talking about the destruction of the temple and the Pharisees for a while, so it is odd for her to suddenly refer to someone who died in 10 CE.
Thanks for putting the word out about this book. Look forwarded to reading it.
I'm a philosophy major at Kstate, a Christian, and I love watching your videos. So many Christians are unwilling to open their minds and truly look for truth and it's sad. Your story is fascinating to me and your videos are extremely well-done. I am very interested in the type of things you explore and have/will order and read many of the books you've read and described in your videos.
@Evid3nc3 Thank you. I'll check the book out. I still go to church and am scared to say what I really think. I was starting to worry something was wrong with me because I have all these doubts. Glad you made the videos.
"Mental boot camp". I like that. Your path is quite similar to my own... I read "The Battle for God" by Armstrong (along with a few other thought-provoking texts), which sparked my own mental boot camp. It was an enlightening experience when I realized just how little I knew about everything... history, religion, philosophy, etc.,. First and foremost, I wasn't able to articulate what I believed and why I called myself a Christian. The intellectual journey that ensued has been life-changing.
@PeckerGoblin
I'm touched that the video made you feel this way.
I just came across your videos today and look forward to watching more of them. As a Buddhist I pretty much get to open up and make my own concept of "God" or a supreme being. I researched nonstop for several years on philosophy on my own before becoming Buddhist. But now I'm trying to fill the whole of what do I actually believe as far as "God" is concerned. While watching your videos I had to get out my Bible and sticky note parts that u mentioned so I can go back to them. :D
Evid3nc3, thank you so much for your series of videos. They are by far the most educated, clear, concise, non-offensive and rational series of videos for understanding the truth of religion.
Wow was not expecting to hear Klute in soundtrack!
You seem to have gone through the same emotional journey I am currently on as an ex-christian. You're words have meant a lot to me with helping me understanding the meaning of profound. My new favorite insect: orchid mantis. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this. Its been about 2 years since I have left lala land. I think you explained almost in detail, most of what I went through and thought about things. Its like, I felt so alone and no one could or would understand me or what I was going through. It was always more god for you. Even with their "help", I was able to make it out. Its just nice to know Im not the only one who thinks and thought those things.
@HassanAlHajry
Okay, I've watched pt1/10 of the Divine Book and all I am hearing so far are (evidentially unjustified) claims of unity between the three Semitic religions throughout history. Which part (1-10) has the miracles?
@Evid3nc3 "I have never seen the Qu'ran cited in a scientific paper."
In electronic structure calculations, people often discuss the various levels of theory by making an analogy with "Jacob's ladder," where the post-HF levels connect the "Earth" of Hartree-Fock to the "Heaven" of chemical accuracy. That's nice, but I seem to recall reading a paper once that used that analogy and then actually included an inline citation of the relevant Bible verses. I headdesked pretty hard.
@Prplfox
Thank you so much. It means a lot :)
@MySocksSmell2
You said: "projected it outside the ego as an essence external to the self"
Caputo (spelling was wrong at the beginning of my last post) is aware of this projection and understands it as a projection...but, for him, it is a profound one.
You said: "Human worth should not [be] measured by working for a sacred idea or thought, not even love."
Is it just me or this series feels like a real youtube work of art? I mean, I was this close to say they could make a movie, a book, or something like that about it. But then I realize it's not necessary. It's a video series that works perfectly here, on youtube, without the need to be translated into other more traditional media.
@mcmeister89 A book would be great, too. However, I would imagine that this particular format would be accessible and reach a wider variety of people.
I've watched your entire series from start to finish almost in an entire sitting. Amazing. You've answered many questions I've had and shed light on many things I've presumed. Thank you for doing this in a respectful manner as so many atheists have a tendency to be rude and condescending. Not all Christians are bad people. Many are just satisfied that they will never know all of the answers. Theists and Atheists are forever doomed to an never-ending pissing contest. This is undeniable.
Really good video series, thanks.
The same conclusions I came to (specifically that 'god' is used to refer to a plethora of /feelings/), that the relevant connection that must be drawn, which is used as a uniting factor for theists, and yet would fall apart, if they were unable to unite under the overwhelming overuse of the diction particular to the feelings; the use of the word 'god' to associate with feelings, and so many numerous and different feelings at that, is one of the biggest challenges to 'getting through' to theists.
On the nose description, well done!
@Pinoylegend707 TH-cam personalizes your search results based on the sorts of things you usually click on. So, thanks for sharing that info with the rest of the class.
I really do appreciate his research on this subject because I have always found the scriptures to be open to a lot of interpretation and really confusing but it is obvious that with this video and further investigation online and In local libraries that what he is stating is true or at least quite accurate and I applaud his effort. Thank you Evid3nc3! :)
to the guy who made these videos: thank you for doing all the research i wanted to do, but couldnt afford. i am a fellow seeker of truth and would like to ask of your ideas on the power of prayer/ritual/meditation and how they have an effect on conceptual reality.
Your conclusion of the meaning of "God" at the end, at around 8:45-9:25 could be used as the most rational call to tolerance of ideas, both among theists and atheists.
A very inspiring philosophical analysis.
Thank you for these videos. I really enjoyed hearing about the entire process and how you came to your conclusion. Even though it may be evident that I am an atheist, I like to think I have respect for all, but especially for someone to really put as much thinking and studying into something as you. You took the discussion out of the gutter in an excellent way, which I find myself unable to do.
Wow, keep them coming. Simply brilliant.
On the philosophy described here of Philo. Classic Platonic Greek philosophy held that "we can not see real items, we only see their shadows cast on the cave walls."
Perhaps a modern interpretation would be that "We perceive the world through our senses, and can never know if our senses are truly accurate or not."
So the philosophy described by Philo seems to fit correctly with Greek philosophy of that time.
@HassanAlHajry
Alright. Well I appreciate you trying to share knowledge, I really do. Given that translation, it is sufficiently vague that I can't say it contradicts modern science. However, what a passage gains by vagueness, it loses by not being specific enough. Either way, it is unconvincing as a scientific insight. I suspect every passage the Divine Book points out will have this same problem.
I love that old english E at 7:00
yea the same thing happened to me shortly after i realized santa was a load of bs. 7 year olds have the instinct of critical thinking to doubt santa. then there was the kids who seemed to know there was no santa but they seemed to be in denial because they formed an emotional attachment to the fantasy
