I worked more, when I worked from home. It’s quiet and I can concentrate more. I worked longer hours, since I didn’t have to commute and sit in traffic for an hour.

I'm not even open to taking work that isn't remote tbh.

Working from home I have been very productive I log on and work non stop. It’s quiet and I can concentrate more than working in a office. I don’t commute and get stuck in traffic for an hour. I spend my energy on work.

I don't see the problem with working from home. It's convenient for everyone. Too busy trying to make people conform.

Is it really convenient for everyone? I do hybrid and being able to ask questions physically is much more effective

By working from home I can live with my parents and save all my money. Can’t do that if I need to be near an office 5 days a week.

I’ll take a pay cut somewhere else before I go back to the office five days a week.

CEOs mad because remote work confirms how obsolete they are

The one solution fits all doesn't make sense here. The requirements for each position are vastly different. Some really need to be in the office while others it doesn't make sense.

The conversation is about the ongoing debate on remote work and its impact on various aspects of work life. Rose Marie Miller and Jenna McGregor from Forbes are discussing the effects of remote work, particularly focusing on its implications for productivity, company culture, mentorship opportunities, and the preferences of young workers. They mention that hybrid work (a combination of remote and in-person work) seems to be the prevailing trend, with flexibility being a key factor in the future of work. They discuss data and research that show mixed results regarding the impact of remote work on productivity, culture, and mentorship. Overall, the consensus is that hybrid work is likely to stay and provide employees with the flexibility they desire.

I'd like to know how they measure "productivity". Do they measure it with software that tracks keyboard and mouse clicks, time spent sitting in a chair monitored by a camera, etc? Or do they measure it with assigned tasks completed on time?

No, I run a solar startup and had someone who wanted equity, but wanted a fully remote position. They were terminated.

I remember when I first started in my current job, I listened to a co-worker sitting across from me how she spoke to customers over the phone, what she told them, etc. I learned a lot just from listening to her doing her job. Eighteen years later I still learn by listening to how my co-workers phrase responses to customers over the phone, what information they pass along to them that may be different than my understanding of the information, etc. I cannot learn this by sitting at home without co-workers around.

You can virtually work alongside coworkers as well. We share screens, video chat, email, constantly stay in touch with each other about work things.
In my experience, working in the office you get exposed to not only the coworkers who are doing well enough to want to learn from, but also the toxic people who need to actually be fired. The gossip, the personal life sharing, things that are super irrelevant to the job.
Learning from coworkers is not something that needs to happen in-person. There are some people who enjoy being social while working, then there are others who cannot be productive while being social. The option for people to choose how they work/learn best is the way to go. People who like the office should be allowed to go and socialize while working. Those of us who feel distracted and forced to be fake with their coworkers leave for the day feeling mentally/emotionally drained and then have to find personal time to actually do their work.
Both sides should be respected, especially if they're great workers overall.
