Snooky is always with him! Tells you what caliber of a player he was. I got to meet the guys with Tonight Show band back in the late 70's and again in 91 and those guys were just humble ordinary guys that didn't take themselves to seriously. Very friendly and actually seemed like they enjoyed just talking to a fan of them all🎼🎶🎵🎺
Doc is unbelievable as usual. I have to say though that when he played it with the Tonight Show Band on the Tonight show, it was at a slightly faster tempo and the band played it with a lot more energy than the band that was assembled for this performance. I noticed Snooky, Rick Baptist, and Warren Luening in the trumpet section, don't know who the 4th guy was.
Yup I thought the same thing. If it were a different setting I'm sure Doc would have corrected him! He always promoted those other guys and their contributions like a good band leader should!
If it was a Tonight Show broadcast I'm sure they would have given Bill Holman credit, here I don't think they were going for accuracy it was just filler patter. Did Doc even do any arranging? I'm sure Bill Holman still got the royalty check. Pretty sure Bill Holman did that incredible arrangement for "A Song For You" from Doc's Rhapsody For Now album. Btw the announcer is singer Jack Jones - once upon a time he was a fairly well known singer.
@@brassplyer A Song for You is the most beautifully arranged and beautifully played song for and by Doc! I actually have it down to be played at my funeral when the time comes. When I first heard it and every time after I was in complete awe. I actually chatted with Doc for a few minutes 1979 and I mentioned the album and specifically a Song for you and his reply was, "Yeah, we had alot of fun doing that one. "😳Magic🎺

Arranger is Bill Holman
The announcer was mistaken. This is Bill Holman’s arrangement.
Thanks. My ears perked up when I heard that, which I figured was incorrect.

@@brassplyer I'm not aware of any arrangements that were by Doc.
Has an entirely different feel with Louie Bellson on drums.
Where's the mustache??😮
