Bastien does fit in very well. Bastien used to sub for a tenor when Home Free first started and he was also with Chris Rupp’s group 7th ave so he’s not a stranger to them but technically new to this line up. Since there are 3 Adam’s they have opted to be called by last names Rupp, Chance and Bastien. Since he joined people are joking saying Home Free should change their name to The Adam’s Family 😂
Bastien received a really warm welcome from 98% of the Home Fries, I'd say. Very, very few negative. A few holdouts who can't let go of Austin although Austin's hearts desire is to be home where he is now. A few feared there might be a homophobic reaction to him since he is out and proud, happily married to his husband for five years. They are a singing duo and perform their own stuff and were on one of the competition singing shows together several years ago. They are residing in Detroit at this time. Tell you all of this so you will know some back story info. I am excited to see HF branch out into some R & B and they've always had a few pop songs sprinkled in. This group can pull off any genre pretty much with the diversity of voices and singing styles.
One of my favorite Bonnie Raitt songs gets the HF treatment. Perfect song for Bastien's introduction to folks who didn't know his before. He subbed in HF waaaaay bank in the early days, so he's very familiar with the guys and their style. And a perfect song for his voice and personality. He was also in Chris Rupp's group (after he left HF) 7th Ave. Lots of good stuff there, too. Sadly they disbanded during Covid. And we got the perfect percussion. AND Gospel Rob. Woot! Can't wait to see what happens next.
Adam Bastien is a great high tenor. He fits in wonderfully. He was in Chris Rupp's band 7th avenue if you want to check him out. One of my favorite parts was Chance lip syncing that high note (which was Bastien)
@@tazzznphillyHome Free was not initially full time. It took several years to get those who wanted to do this as a career. Bastien was one of the rotating members early on.
Bastien was subbing in the group for years before Austin joined, and during the filming of The Sing-Off he was in what they called their B-group, fulfiling previously booked gigs when they couldn't be there themselves. After Chris Rupp left Home Free he formed the project 7th Ave together with his and Adam Rupp's sister Tristin and Bastien. I fell in love with Bastien's voice, energies, vibe and personality back then, 8 years ago, and I am so excited that they went with him since Austin were called elsewhere by his heart and soul. He's less country than Austin, but it does open up for more bluesy, jazzy and souful choices, both for songs and arrangements. They can still keep their country sound when Tim or Chance sings lead. Great reaction!
Austin will be missed. Bastien isn't there to fill Austin's shoes, he's there to wear his own shoes and contribute to their wonderfulness! I look forward to what they do moving forward after replacing Austin's country sound with Bastien's bluesy/soul vibe. Thanks for another great reaction.
Right on Tazzz. Adam Bastien sang with Chris Rupp’s group 7th Ave. (Chris is Adam Rupp’s brother (beatboxer) and left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Chance). Chris started 7th Ave. and Bastien sang with them. He’s a high tenor like Austin. I don’t think he can get quite as high as Austin but close. He blended right in with the boys. Yeah the group is calling him Bastien.
Adam Bastien (aka Bastien) is a high tenor as Austin was but has an energy and style all his own, Rob (full beard and glasses) is a tenor, Adam Chance (aka Chance) is a baritone/bass, Tim is a bass with 5 octave range and Adam Rupp (aka Rupp) is the beatboxer/vocal percussionist (can also sing tenor when needed). Bastien chose this Bonnie Raitt cover for his first video with the group. I like the jazzy bluesy sound to it. Can’t wait for what comes next.
All three Adams go by their last names (though Chance's is actually his middle name he uses as a professional last name). The song was a suggestion by Bastien and it certainly was the perfect choice as introduction song. Loved it. I'm not sure what his range is, only that he is a high tenor and doing an amazing job with it. He's not Austin, of course, but that's totally fine. I don't want a vocal clone of Austin and he brings his own unique voice with his own skill and talents to the group. I knew it would sound different, but it's not bad different. I think he fits right in (he can be just as silly as the rest, too!). Thanks for the reaction.
I remember the original song (but can't remember the singer). As always, their singing, harmonies & Rupp's crazy beatboxing are terrific. Bastien does a great job with the lead & I'm sure he'll be a good fit with the band (but I still miss Austin singing with them - I'll need time to get used to it). Rob is lead tenor, Austin was high (or second) tenor. Thus far, Bastien would seem to be high tenor as well. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
Just came across the two of you reacting to Home Free's latest video. Please make sure you always listen through to the end. Subscribed because it is so nice to journey along when reactors first encounter Home Free. Yes, I am most definitely a Home Fry. It is appreciated by me that you gave the group a larger part of your screen. This is because HF puts so much creativity and care into the making of their videos. In answer to your ? it was mentioned that Bastien was not wanting the tour style of performing in the past. Much like Austin's recent move. Looking forward to your next reaction. Be well.

Adam Bell-Bastien has been a member of the Home Free "family" since their very early days. He sang with them between the time Matt Atwood left and Austin joined up and was part of the "B-group" that toured under their name while the guys we know and love were taping and touring for the Song-Off. When Chris Rupp left Home Free he formed a group, along with his and Adam's sister Tristin, called 7th Ave. Bastien was the third member and I've seen videos with the group rounded out by a lady named Kelley Jakle or Jerome Bell-Bastien, Adam's husband. The pair were on the Voice as OneUp and I've seen their videos also as OneUpDuo. He looks really different clean shaven.
