For guitarists, Gary was a god. He is important because he was a virtuoso, and he showed us new things you could do with that instrument. He also wasn't just a guitar player, he was a great songwriter and knew how to play with great emotion. RIP Gary, we love you!

BJ ask about the guitar he used. In this video, Gary is playing 'Greeny', which is the 1959 Gibson Les Paul which was Peter Green's (of the original Fleetwood Mac) main instrument in the late 60s/early 70s, and when Peter quit the music business he basically gave the guitar to a young Gary Moore who was probably still a teen at the time. Gary owned Greeny for over 30 years, and it is now in the hands of Kirk Hammett of Metallica, who does play it every show for at least one or two songs. I cannot think of a guitar that has more pedigree than Greeny - owned and played on stage by 3 different guitar gods over a period of 60 years, no other guitar matches that.

The sound of the "dang guitar" at 10:41 is called "violining" because it sounds like a violin! It's created by picking the string with the volume low, then pushing the string up to increase its pitch and at the same time, turning up the volume. You have to do that for each note! Watch again and you can see his right hand work the volume.

The guitar? It's an instrument with a history -- a 1959 Gibson Les Paul, which was given to him by the legendary, the late Peter Green (founder member of Fleetwood Mac before they went soft) back in the early 1970s. It has a unique sound because of the unusual wiring of its pickups. It's now owned by Kirk Hammett, of Metallica. One of the great guitars of rock and electric blues history. There's plenty more of Moore (excuse the unintended pun!) for you to appreciate, guys. Also check out Peter Green, who was a big influence on Gary. Indeed, he devoted a whole album to Peter over 20 years ago (link below). The emotional side of his playing? Well he drew much of that from Peter's playing; Peter was well known for making grown men cry at his concerts, because of the emotional impact of his playing. Add to that, Gary's Irish roots, and you have the source of his own unique emotional impact. You're not alone in thinking he is talking directly to your soul through his playing.

Hi. I happened to stumble on your great reaction. Ive been playing Professionally for over 40 years and have been following Gary since he was with the original Skid Row. What you witnessed was a master class on vibrato technique, volume and tone control manipulation on a difficult guitar to master. A Gibson Les Paul. Particularly that one. The Peter Greene Les Paul. Gary always said it was a bastard to play. He uses his heavy metal skills along with his blues influence to do something ive never heard another guitarist do. Make a Les Paul cry and beg. Believe me. Ive heard and met them ALL SRV, Satriani, Vai name it. ALL great. None Gary. You will never see the likes of this again.

Hey guys, It is a song of praise that captures the anticipation of the return of the Messiah Jesus Christ and was written by Roy Buchanan in the early 70's. What is so special about Roy is the sounds he was able to achieve prior to pedals and other electronic equipment to enhance the tone. The emotion you talk about is the anointing that is upon the song. Since the song is about Christ Jesus. What you are feeling is the tug of the Holy Spirit, causing you to want to fall on your face and give praise and thanks to Him. "who was and is and is to come"

A guitar and blues virtuoso in his own right, and somewhat of an idol for Gary. If you like Gary’s work you might consider “I’ve Still Got The Blues For You”. He's playing Peter Green's "Ole Greenie" from Fleetwood Mac. The others you mentioned were great in their own right but Gary Moore is so special with his finesse and timings. His heart is laid out on the neck of that guitar. His video with BB King "Thrill is Gone" is just an amazing expression of "Call and Response" improv and it's great.

"Killer"from Cozy Powell's Over the Top album show cases Gary in his element. A live studio mix with Don Airey on keys, Jack Bruce on bass and Cozy on drums. All legends. The clue's in the name.

Ireland's 2nd greatest and definitely top 10 greatest guitarist. Lest we forget the man himself, RORY GALLAGHER. I loved Gary once he switched to blues/Rock.
Check out Rory Gallagher live in Montreux 1985- Bad Penny.
    Gary Moore idolized Rory.
Neither got the credit they were due because the world was falling over their collective self for the Claptons and Jimmy Page.
I'll take Rory and Gary ANY DAY. R.I.P Gary and Rory....

I am really happy you guys found this one....GM was my first guitar hero as a teen.....and really unknown back then. He's done a lot of different stuff...this is probably the best I've ever seen from him...at least top 3.

Thank you for showcasing the greatest unknown rock guitarist ever. Few play with the emotion and technical ability of Gary. Another great instrumental of his is The Loner from his Wild frontier album. Brings me to tears sometimes. Saw him live twice, and have seen none better.

Composed by Roy Buchanan; Gary Moore is 🔥 you will never hear a more heart-rending expression of the passion of Christ, which concludes with that uplifting message that triumphs over tragedy and adversity. Genius! To be able to evoke a child like wonder again in us for a few minutes. Genius! Gary Moore RIP 👏👏👏❤️

The man with a 1000 face and the hands of god. I've seen this performance a 1000 times and will never ever tire of seeing it again and again. This performance is the pinnacle of expressive guitar playing. This song is actually a cover, the original artist is Roy Buchanan but Gary is just takes the song to another level. RIP Gary, truly one of the greats.

He's using a Gibso Les Paul. I've strummed that very guitar in Glasgow Scotland 3 year ago. He left it in his will to his rhythm guitarist so I asked him after the gig if I can touch it n he told me have a try of it. A very fond memory for me

Nice. Yes, this was the great Roy Buchanan's song. They were both masters of guitar tone/ intonation. In response to Hendrix, Roy Buchanan took it upon himself to figure out ways of producing guitar effects with his hands rather pedals or processing machines. Pure tone like B.B. King.

The guitar he used is a very special guitar named “greeny”. It’s a 1959 les Paul that was originally bought and used by Peter green of the original line up for fleetwood Mac. Peters sound and playing blew everyone away. (Check out albatross). He Then sold it to gary Moore. Now it’s owned by Kirk Hammett of metallica, who is a huge blues fan.
