There are so many other places he should have gone in the UP! The beautiful Pictured Rocks near Munising is awe inspiring. Kitch-iti-kipi near Manistique is a hidden gem. Waterfalls are great up north, as well.
I was temporarily assigned in Warren/Livonia for 7 months. In that time I became a huge fan of the Great State of Michigan. Mad love and respect. From NEVADA.
I really want to visit Isle Royale and camp there. I was lucky enough to visit Mount Bohemia last winter and loved our road trip through the UP. Great documentary btw, thanks for sharing.
Hancock, Michigan, just across from Houghton is a sister city of Porvoo, Finland. You’d love it. I’ve been to Porvoo and it looks like here but with maybe more cool boats lined up in Porvoo. The President of Finland has been here, so…Come on over!
I have a Cabin in Paradise Michigan - Have been going since I was a kid. The UP is truly comparable to a more accessible and safer Alaska with it beautiful landscape. If you've never been I highly encourage you to go during the summer!
My great grandparents were Michettis, Italian immigrants from Tourin who settled in Calumet where my great grandfather worked in the copper mines. I loved it the first time I was there. I love to stay in the motel in Copper Harbor that has just simple turn locks-- like a bathroom -- on its rooms. But the rooms are all along the lakeshore. Were it not for the harsh winter, I would live there. I have been to many shores around this country and the shore of Lake Superior is my favorite. I long to be there...
I crossed that bridge around 1972 and never looked back, it is a place that takes me away from the rest of the busy World, it is not easy to live in the UP but the rewards...oh the rewards. There is sooo much more to see! Your journey started at Marquette if you do choose to come back make sure to check out the other 60% of the UP! We are waiting!🙂
There is so much more to the U.P. My favorite place to me. I hope you take the opportunity to see each season. Winter Carnival in Houghton University., Each City is amazing.
You should have mentioned that Peterson is a retired professor of Michigan Technological University, one of the best engineering colleges in the woods.
Pure Michigan pays for the first hit of up north, but you're on your own after that. Sturgeon River Gorge, Huron Mountains and Porkies are arguably best parts that you didn't see.
@scotthilberg8894 technically mountains - they have about 1500ft of elevation above the surrounding land/water which puts them on par with many parts of Appalachia. They're also the oldest mountains
Appreciated the video, but totally missed the Western Upper Peninsula which has the Porkies and amazing waterfalls along with significant landmarks. The importance of winter to Yoopers was also totally passed over. Only 3% of the state population lives in this 1/3 of the state due to the harsh winters whereby Yoopers thrive because they got SISU.
I moved to the upper peninsula 1994. From Chicago! 😂 had my daughter in Marquette and my son in Sault Ste Marie, we moved as soon as we were able 😅 winter up there lasts 9 months 😂 I visit every spring or summer to see family ❤
In 45+ years of going to the UP have never actually heard anyone ever call it DA YOOP. That is a tourist term that is used between other tourists or by tourist shops to sell shirts.
This is open proof that NG stopped being journalistic in any sense years ago. The closest thing to a positive to this is that it's labeled as an ad, but I'm assuming that's more being scared of being demonetized by TH-cam.
2:44 starry skies, and howling wolves. 🤩That is quite the wilderness mood. 🐺

Shhhhhhh
Bonesy and Chris were both people I've met in Copper Harbor. Really great down to earth people with a passion for the U.P.
I was temporarily assigned in Warren/Livonia for 7 months. In that time I became a huge fan of the Great State of Michigan. Mad love and respect. From NEVADA.
To be honest, this clip does not do it justice. Even better and prettier in person.
I live in the upper peninsula and love it 😀
Have you met finnish people there?
same
What a gorgeous place
I really want to visit Isle Royale and camp there. I was lucky enough to visit Mount Bohemia last winter and loved our road trip through the UP. Great documentary btw, thanks for sharing.
I would like to visit Upper Peninsula before I die. I'm from Finland.
Come on over. Many finns here also. Real UP is outside of Marquette.
The UP is from Finland. :)

Can’t believe Pictured Rocks wasn’t featured.

There last year, such an amazing place!
What a stunning place to behold!!!👍👏🏻👏🏻😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
Moved here from Florida in 2017 and love it! No traffic, no noise....
Welcome to Heaven, my apologies for being years late in congratulating you

go to the porcupine mountains!!! you will not be disappointed in the slightest, it is absolutely breathtaking!!!
but they aren't mountains
My parents went exploring and there are some beautiful hidden waterfalls. I heard that it is one of the few mostly unadulterated places in USA.
I hope it stays that way
Yes, I agree. I’m from there, and it’s one of the few unspoiled parts left in the country.
Qué lugar tan hermoso
I live a few miles south of lake superior by the porcupine mountains. i love it and feel blessed to live not only here but in the woods
Reminds me a lot of Finland, such a homey atmosphere watching this cool video.
I live here and it is majestic.
NG is now doing tourism spots. Its Pure Michigan.
It's
What better crew to represent both interests. Marquette wants to preserve, nat geo does too.
I live here in the upper peninsula Michigan
where's the cheapest place to buy land in the UP
There is so much more to the U.P. My favorite place to me.
I hope you take the opportunity to see each season. Winter Carnival in Houghton University., Each City is amazing.
Shhhhh! Its our secert up here. It nice because there are no people.
Yoopers like to keep it that way😎🤫
@@MrChris-ov5zm yes!
Thank you
Well done. Hard to fit so much into 5 minutes....but you did an amazing job doing just that.
Ermoso lugar
Hermoso
I live here in the U.P. and it is beautiful.
Born and raised in Marquette never heard of nor referred to it as The Yoop......
From iron mountain, also never heard anyone ever say "the yoop". I thinks it's just that one lady made that up.
Really? We say it all the time, I live by Chatham.
@@kim-jong-poon everyone I know calls it Da Yoop
I live in Marquette. It truly is beautiful
nice video
You are very nice to share here.
I grew up in Bessemer michigan ❤

Huron hills you mean lol
@scotthilberg8894 technically mountains - they have about 1500ft of elevation above the surrounding land/water which puts them on par with many parts of Appalachia.

The only thing is Big cats are coming back in the UP in Michigan.

1:31 I jumped off those rocks on the left side
Nice
Yooper 906!
No love for Escanaba, eh... 😂
When people think of Michigan they automatically think of Detroit or flint. Those are only two cities. This is the real Michigan
I moved to the upper peninsula 1994. From Chicago! 😂 had my daughter in Marquette and my son in Sault Ste Marie, we moved as soon as we were able 😅 winter up there lasts 9 months 😂 I visit every spring or summer to see family ❤
👍👍👍👍
It’s not the yoop. It’s DA YOOP
In 45+ years of going to the UP have never actually heard anyone ever call it DA YOOP. That is a tourist term that is used between other tourists or by tourist shops to sell shirts.
What about the Universities?
The UP is terrible. Do not go. Keep going to Florida and Myrtle Beach.
What-no sauna?

Nooks bouldering and Jeff's world didn't get mentioned, sad.
Would have been better without that voice.
Michigan - The Gold Standard for TDS!
Lol, definitely not. The major cities, sure. But the other 90% of the state, nope. He won MI in '16
