This is a great video with great information about Oslo. Thank you so much for doing this and sharing this with us. I think you gave the Times something to think about.
Great list, some of my top things you didnt mention: The village in the city - Bygdøy, go for a swim at Huk or visit the vikingship museum. Holmenkollen and Nordmarka, see the famous skijump and go for a hike or a bike ride. Bring swim gear for one of the lakes. Go for a picnic in Vigelandsparken, and if you plan in advance attend one of the city festivals like øyafestivalen, byLarm or Oslo Jazz. There are also some nice restaurants in the area between the castle and bogstadveien.
My wife wants to see the cities first so when I booked the Revier in Oslo, the pictures are right but it books under the name Att | Kvadraturen. I hope I'm staying at the right place. I liked the Sommerro also but it was a bit pricey. We also learned be careful with short euro flights; you can lose all your money if you have to cancel or change.
@@SwankGuide Video very helpful especially for 3 day road trip we will do between Bergen and Alesund. We hope to squeeze in The Flam train and the Hellesylt Port ferry ride back and forth to Gerainger where we will spend the night. We booked the Det Hanseatiske in Bergen for two nights and the Brosundet in Alesund for 3 with the Fjiords to Trolls full day excursion. A whole week in Fjiord country!
Don't agree with your review of the Amerikalinjen Hotel. It's pronounced like, "America Line" because it was the old headquarters of the Norwegian American Ship Lines. It's centrally located across from the train station, and the main shopping street, Opera and Munch Museum are nearby. The rooms are very stylish and have photos and maps from the old ships. It's not just blandly modern, there is a real sense of history and I like having historic buildings restored to their former glory.
Thanks for the feedback. Like you, I appreciate thoughtful ronovations of historic buildings. I had a booking at the Amerikalinjen Hotel, but reconsiered after I visted and looked around.. it's nice.. I agree.. but I also spoted a few design elements I disn't think were in good taste. Not that the pcae is bad, just that Villa Inkognito and The Sommerro are a lot better.... curious if you visted those hotrels b/c they set the standard in Oslo for thoughtful renovations that reflect the true character of the buildings; not good, but great!
Edvard Munch’s last name is pronounced like «monk», not like in «munching». He’s one of the world’s most famous artists, so I think people should know. Otherwise, very nice video!
1:45 i agree with you, I hate the architecture and colors of the building. Its dull, lifeless. In fact, I don't like most of the recent modern type buildings that are being built in Oslo. They feel like empty, sad, souls-less. No creativity, nothing expressive or attraction. Like the MUNCH Museum. :(
@@SwankGuide you missed the fact that the National art museum also have the Scream. See them both since they are different. And Munch is pronounced "Munk" in Norwegian
@@jonnor6883 Thanks for that... I wish I had more time to deep dive into some of these places, but the truth is there's so much to try and cover in a city guide - especailly when I only have 2-3 days.... Great when viewers help out the community by sharing stuff I don't know.
Norway is ranked as one of the countries expats like the least to stay in. Like in the bottom 5. I second that as a Norwegian and i have no idea why u are refering to it as europes hottest destination. Like WHAT?😂
Architecure is horrible. Definantly the ugliest capital in Europe. Also, its run by the biggest decadent politicians in history, totally destroying the city.
@@TullaRaskActually, Oslo is more comparable to Trondheim in size and in things to do than Stockholm or Copenhagen, and like a true decadent you seem embarrased by that. Only difference is that Trondheim has actually kept its old traditional atmosphere and architecture which is unique and common for the way norway traditionally looked. Do you honestly even think about Oslo objectivly. Think about sports for instacne, it does not even have a team in the highest football division. It is a city that is completly without anything, except people of you kind, that are perfectly happy to live in a place that is completly supported and subsidized by the norwegian taxpayer on the expense of devloping their own local regions. It's strategy is like Moscow's (And i bet you decadently even think that sounds very cool), it basically steals and plunder the rest of the country artificially keeping it self in a higher standard than it actually is able to by it self.
@@TroenderTass I didn't grow up in Oslo, I come from another part of the country, as does many people. Frankly lots of people come to Oslo from all over this country because this is a big city, while places like Trondheim is nothing but a village. My mother once asked why people who go to Oslo become so pro-Oslo after moving here lol. Lots of people just love it here. Oslo has it all. You asking about football is just typical, because that's about all you have to do of socalled cultural events elsewhere, here in Oslo football is just one of many things to do, and they have to compete for the attention.
@@TroenderTass As I grew up elsewhere and has lived in Trondheim for 1 year, I'm not a noob. I know what attitude many outsiders in Norway has to Oslo, it's envy all around. The city I grew up in is a shit hole. Whitout Oslo it would be nothing. All countries need a magnet and that's what Oslo is.
@@TullaRaskThe place you come from is a shit hole for the very reason i pointed out like blew right past you. You region is not developed simply because everything gets centralized in Oslo. The same is true in Norway. You rparent are funding your decadent lifestile trough taxes with immigrants in Oslo, and they get nothing in return. There is no culture in Oslo. Edvard Munch. It's not pronounced like "munch. It's like "monk." It ends in a hard K sound.
Yup I've been spanked many times for that oversight

I suggest you go back to the tiny little city of Trondheim. Oslo is a big city with lots of options, Trondheim is not even worth a days visit.
