Woza Woza friday my darling - that was my song and still is. Go well sun of the land, you've left an indelible mark to South Africa, Africa and the world at large. Condolences to the family.
Thank you for sharing your Dream and Talent with us..you touched us and the World..A Proudly South African Legend..u make me proud to be South African RIP
A true son of the soil has fallen...l just love the way you pronounce the isiZulu sayings and proverbs...RIP Madlebe!!! You gave yourself wholeheartedly. Your songs of love, compassion and humility are your legacy forever. Duduzekani mndeni no Bab Sipho Mchunu!
Oh no! I can't believe I just found out he died! 4 YEARS AGO!!!! I so love his music! Why do the good always die so soon? It is not like Africa doesn't need him and his music and his beautiful thoughts anymore! Or the world for that matter. I saw him live just once in Germany. It was the greatest, best and happiest concert I have ever been at. Please everyone, remember Johnny Clegg and his great heart! Rest in Peace Mr. Clegg! I hope you had an easy crossing. God Bless, Mary
R.I.P. great heart... such a loss in every sense... but for sure you'll live again, healthy and vibrant as in your youth... great resurrection hope definitely on the cards for all dead loved ones... thanks for showing us, one and all, the true spirit of UBUNTU..."I AM because you ARE..."
I grew up in apartheid South Africa in the 70's and we didn't care about mixed languages and all that. We enjoyed Jaluka for the music they played and we bought their records. It was mostly just the politicians that got their nickers in a knot.
Thank you Johnny Clegg for the great music. Some of my favorite songs when you were with Jukula are Mana Lapho ( stand your ground ), December African rain, Bullets for Bafazane to name a few. I'll be seeing you in the tower of song. Until then, Adios Amigo
What do you mean exactly? He retired from live performances because of pancreatic cancer, but was planning to still record and do speaking engagements etc. Unfortunately, the cancer and subsequent death stopped all that: he had his last live public performance in November 2018 in Zimbabwe, which had been postponed from earlier in the year due to his illness, and his penultimate public show in Mauritius in October 2018. As far as I know a final private performance for the launch of ‘The Friends of Johnny Clegg’ on 6 December 2018 was held in Cape Town, South Africa. As I understand it, he became really very ill in April or May 2019 and then, as you may know, he died on 16 July 2019.
Legend Johnny, Continue rest in power. Thanks for the great music..
Rest in peace Mr Clegg. You will always be a great South African.
