When Viv called her lawyer regarding collecting past due alimony from her ex Ralph, I'd think that she would have been also awarded child support for Sherman - wonder if he paid that up to date? Usually divorced women would be more likely to be awarded child support and only temporarily awarded alimony - especially these days. Back then it was accepted/expected for divorced women to stay home with their children (at least in the US) but now they are expected to go to work. I don't know about back then but courts now have the authority to garnish things as wages and tax refunds from deadbeat dads - oftentimes, this is generated when the mom needs to file for public assistance due to the failure to receive back alimony and/or child support.

Lucy’s character didn’t have enough money to do that, though. She always had to stretch out her monthly trust fund check and depended on Viv’s rent money to help pay the household bills.

Her last marriage she said it was the happiest marriage she ever had. Even though her husband was gay.
The Lucy character was so hard up am sure that the house was heavily mortgaged. If that was true then the banker Mr. Barnsdahl should have insisted that an escrow account be set up (to pay for homeowners' insurance and property taxes) when Lucy said "pooh!" about renewing the coverage. Then if Viv asserted a claim for medical expenses and pain & suffering from her injury slipping on Jerry's toy car that was in Lucy's kitchen, a claim could be filed against that insurance - of course then, the carrier is liable to raise the premiums seeing that she's a worse risk then anticipated, but Lucy could then raise Viv's rent.... Like someone else suggested, Lucy could waive Viv's back rent to offset Viv's medical expenses but only IF Viv signed a waiver holding Lucy and the bank harmless from any future expenses from the injury - it should be signed in front of a notary or other neutral party. After awhile she could make up the lost income in part by raising Viv's rent. Also, I would have withheld Jerry's allowance for a couple weeks - even though it wouldn't come near paying for Viv's medical expenses - but to teach him a lesson; likewise, for whoever's skate it was that Viv tripped over at the end.
I love this truthfulness Ms Ball. A tidy house without children's presence is sterilisation of imagination in play. Allow the children to play. One can't play in museum glass case.
In this show two single mothers lived together with their three children. This is kind of like Raven’s Home or I guess I should say Raven’s Home is similar to The Lucy Show.
I'm not familiar with this show ... it's actually quite funny! No matter what their character's names are, they will always be Lucy and Ethyl! Couldn't help but to notice Lucy's lawyer was the accountant who put her on a strict budget in one of those classic I Love Lucy's.
Ethel. "Ethyl" is a chemistry term. ILL was both blessing & curse to Vance. It made her wealthy enough to retire, if she'd wanted, but people saw "Ethel", not Vivian, which makes ME feel sad & frustrated, so I can only imagine how annoying that must have been for her.
Yes, this show was very funny! Some of the early eps are as good as I Love Lucy! (They had the same writers!) Watch the ones called, "Lucy Buys a Sheep", "Lucy & the Electric Mattress", & "Lucy Becomes a Kangaroo." Those are my 3 faves. The latter 2 are particularly hilarious!
Lucy didn't have a lawyer, that was Mr.Barnstall and he is actually Lucy's banker, he is the executor of her trust fund for the first season of this show, Viv was the one with a lawyer, he was never shown and she only has a lawyer because of her divorce, she was just trying to get her back alimony from her ex husband Ralph and she was just playing a joke on Lucy because Lucy thought she would ever sue her. However you are correct that the man who plays Mr.Barnstall did appear as Ricky's new business manager in the first episode of the fourth season of I Love Lucy entitled The Business Manager. He also played in the episodes Lucy Tells The Truth and Staten Island Ferry. Fun Fact: Vivian Vance was the first ever women to play in a television show as a divorcee with her betrayal as Vivian Bagley in this show. I love Lucy very much and she's a star and she shines very bright, but I don't believe it is fair to Vivian Vance that she always be called Ethel, her betrayal as Ethel Mertz was perfection, however she also shines in other roles and just in general, she played this role very well, the reason she used her real first name in this show is because she was tired of everyone she saw or talked to or met calling her Ethel, she wanted people to stop calling her that, so she insisted on using her real first name in this show. She was more than just a character in a show and I believe she deserves our respect. She was an incredibly talented woman and a true star who worked very hard and made so many people smile and laugh and admire her, she was a real class act who spend her screen time playing behind Lucy and never getting the true recognition she deserved. She is and will always be a true Icon of The Golden Age Of Hollywood along with Lucille Ball The Comedy Queen.
Lucy was always the funniest of them both. Vivian was always the sidekick. I always thought Vivian could my that one boyfriend. It was always Eddie Collins. Lucy went out with several men while show was good on.
Lucy and Ethel keeps saying good friends don't Sue each other you see courtrooms filled with people that supposed to be good friends sueing each other all the time sometimes you hear them say she was just like a sister to me or he was just like a brother to me until this happened they sue them for the insurance and they sue them for the medical bills or they sue them for some other reason if things did not work out like they planned it too and one of them went back on their word
Sad but true - even relatives do this - just watch any of the court shows where people go to have their small claims cases arbitrated. Now people in the early 20th century were way less litigious - in the early 60's people became more litigious but not nearly as so as they are now. That's way homeowners and auto insurance premiums are so high, not to mention medical expenses.
Many people today have a very limited sense of humor.. they dont understand irony or the study of absurdity...they seem very concrete and need to be walked through the plots of independent films ... not very sophisticated or developed emotionally or psychologically...

GREAT SHOW
I always felt, in real life, if Gale Gordon wasn't happily married after Lucy & Desi split Gale and Lucy were perfect for each other!
Many people today have a very limited sense of humor.. they dont understand irony or the study of absurdity...they seem very concrete and need to be walked through the plots of independent films ... not very sophisticated or developed emotionally or psychologically...
This was a good show but not as well written as ILL. Still good though and I loved the show with Viv. Not as good after she left.
the lucy show funny she will sues lucy always be my favorte greart gold mine laughing door everyboby time heaven makng both them now two ok
Why isn't this episode on Hulu ?!?!
The messy room is not that bad!
The script writers were great!
Yep, they were - the same writers who worked on I Love Lucy. Once that crew left the Lucy Show after the second season, it was never the same.
I always advise not to have a friend or cousin. It will always go wrong. Don't let it ruin a good friendship.
Vivan should be push down the stairs for her treatment of beloved Lucy
I Love This Show I Remember When Vivian Vance Started On The Lucy Show William Frawley Who Was Bub On My Three Sons At The Time Has Him And Stanley Livingston (Chip) Going To The Lucy Show Set And Dropped Film Cans To Humiliate Vivian Vance And Viv Wasn't Thrilled By That
ernie was on this show twice fred once.
I always wonder if a friend could sue a good friend. That's funny that happened to me. My cousin used be my payee for my disability. The thing was she would disagree with what I ask for? We used be very good friends. Now we have a strain relationship.
