- Doppler effect is the reason why a car has a slight change in sound as it passes you. As objects get closer, they appear to sound higher pitched than normal, and when they go away from us, they sound lower pitched than normal.
I give the equation for doppler effect, and how to use all the variables. Then we do some practice problems.

When you are moving away from the bear
are you not suppose to add
Well that depends, are you the observer or the source? The bear is the source and you're the observer, and you're running away from the bear. So therefore, it should be minus in the numerator.
how do you know when to use which sign
Approaching objects use the top sign, objects going away use the bottom sign
how do you know when to use a plus sign or a minus sign
For the numerator, it’s + when moving towards, and for the denominator it’s - when moving towards.

Do you mean for the speed of the sound? I use 343 because that’s the speed of sound at room temperature in Celsius.

If that’s what your lecturer says, then use that number. I have a feeling it’s for a weird temperature, but I guess that doesn’t matter.
