Tucked around a corner from the iconic sights of Sydney is a forgotten pocket-handkerchief sized suburb that contains hidden history from every era since settlement. From the Razor gangs of the 1930s to the Heritage Battles of the 1960s, Woolloomooloo has seen it all.

The statue of Robbie Burns was a movement in the mid 19th century that hoped and worked for the idea that all cities in the British Empire, did have a statue of Burns. The one in Sydney was formed by a group that used to meet on the 4th floor of the Gowings Building [Market and George Sts], and originally was to grace the Royal Botanic Gardens, but now stands next to the entrance to The Domain.
I know this is nitpicking and I might also be wrong, but the address on Palmer St where Tilly Devine lived is technically in Darlinghurst, south of Woolloomooloo. A longer doco that covers Darlinghurst and the suburb south of it, Surry Hills, would be even better. Plenty of good tales from the Razor gangs era in those suburbs as well. And also Balmain, west of the City. Lots of old pubs and notorious crims who around lived there back in the day too.
Lived around there in the 70 s añd 80s.
14:13 - Classic old Australian pub, with tiles inside and out - made it easier to keep clean, but unfortunately made it look like a toilet.
I remember drinking beer in that toilet in the 1980s...

My grandmother told me she once spent a night in the cells with Tilly Divine when she (gran) was a teenager. My gran and some other girls had been arrested at a union protest. Apparently when Tilly found out they were in on their first arrest, and what it was for, she was really nice to them and made sure their night in the cells was less unpleasant than it otherwise might have been.

Were the people whom Tony come up to so casually throughout the video aware that they would appear in a documentary? Some of them even let him come in willingly.

So are pubs ! And he’s in them all the time , Harry’s is an iconic, probably the most iconic place in the area , in all the tourist guides and featured in countless documentaries.
