It was on my Amazon watch list and I wondered why. I rewatched the video (must have seen it before) and took your recommendation and bought it! Can't wait to play!
Awesome review as usual. Been waiting for the actual review. I already added this one to my list the first time you mentioned it. Can't wait to get it! Thanks Sam for your usual top-notch job. Keep it going! BTW I'm watching your painting lessons. I'm learning TONS of stuff.
On my radar! Thanks Sam. Quick comment: you should have leave the explanation of the cards for last. I think it works best doing winning conditions, then how a turn looks like, then each of the cards.
Thanks for the review, Sam! This is my number one most wanted game of the year! Hopefully I get it for Christmas :) Think I'm gonna need to get some little feathers for the dinosaur minis though :P
Great review! But I think you may not catch a baby the turn you put it to sleep. Plus, when you play the raptor card where the mother gets off the board you get to see the scientist's next card before you have to play your own.
+masterjje Correct on both counts...maybe I shouldn't keep doing reviews at 2am...-_-...my apologies. I was just so excited to get to show the game off...I'd talked about so much, and now I was able to show it! Not an excuse, just an explanation.
Looks like a mix of "Quoridor," "Top Trumps," and "Downfall of Pompii" all bundled up in a great little game. And by Matagot no less. Bounds to be in my collection some day.
Hello Sam! I appreciate the review very much. However, I must say I have been able to play this game at Essen SPIEL this year with my girlfriend and we were not astonished by it. It felt a bit like Mr. Jack on steroids. The card play is definitely the most interesting part of the game but somehow the abilities fell a bit flat. We understand that it's a good piece of design but something didn't really click for us. Anyway, thank you once again for the review and keep up the good work! By the way, it was great meeting The Dice Tower crew at the fair and I do hope to meet you as well next year.
Looks interesting. Thanks for the video. Once again I suggest 'Top 10 (2 player?) Asymmetrical Games' :) On my list to check out are Raptor, Drako, and King & Assassins. Maybe a DiceTower video will open my eyes to more?
Man Sam, nothing against you but this review is kind of a disaster. There were so many rules mistakes, that I am not even sure that you will like the game once you play it with the correct rules. I usually don't mind when you guys make a rule mistake during a review, since it is nothing unusual when you review so many games. However I am just wondering that you make so many mistakes in a game that you like so much and say you have played it often. So let's clarify what i mean: 1. Scientist card 1 and 4: you dont have to be adjacent to a raptor for the card action to trigger. The raptor just has to be on an orthagonaly adjacent tile or on the same tile as the scientist. 2. You forgot to mention (or purposely didnt want to overcomplicate the review), that the Jeep movement also take fire out when you use it over fire. 3. The raptor cards 2 and 6, also allow the raptor player to look at the next card played by the scientist, bevor the raptort decides himself what he is going to play. 4. Mother raptor doesnt put out fire only in a straight line, but any orthagonally connected fire tokens to the initial fire token. So even if 4 fire tokens make a L shaped fire, she puts out all 4 tokens. Therefore it is good to have spaces between the fire so she cannot put out everything at once. 5.As already mentioned in a comment below, you cannot put a baby raptor to sleep and capture it in the same turn with one and the same scientist. 6. Also already mentioned in the comments, you missed showing the gas bullets. I wouldnt mind some of the mistakes, or the things you forgot or purposely left out, if it would be like a 8min review, but 18 min full of mistakes in such a rather simple game and one you really like... kinda makes me question your other reviews of games I dont know the rules to. :( Especially since they are so long. However I guess everybody can have a bad day sometimes especially since you already said that you made this video at 2a.m. :P So I am looking forward to your future reviews, just dont do them again at 2a.m. :D As for my opinion about the game. We played it with my brother at Essen and we hated it. :D We both played one side each and felt at the time that the raptorts are far easier to win with. We liked the cardplay mechanism, however something felt to be wrong with this game. :( After you talking so good about this game, I expected far more and therefore it was probably my biggest disappointment at Essen. Hmm this has to be my longest post so far on TH-cam. Well, see you on the flip side! ;)
I still liked the game but me and my gf had the exact opposite experience. We have switched sides multiple times and the scientists win a large majority of the time.
I am very interested in this game. Ever since hearing the name during your Essen preview videos. The artwork looks amazing and gameplay seems easy enough to catch on, but has some complexity of moves to think through.
With the raptor special action Mother's Call, you can't just place a baby raptor anywhere you want on the same tile. The baby has to have a clear path, as if they walked there. There were a lot of other rule mistakes too...
Great review Sam. Looking forward to this when it comes out here in the UK. based on your review I also feel that this will make people's choice 100 next year (reference to the predictions you guys made in the last episode of this year's list). I already picked up 7 wonders duel. I agree with you guys that should defo make the list next year.Keep up the cool reviews.
I think you neglected to mention how Scientists hit the mother Raptor with the gas grenades. I assume based on your last move that Scientists can shoot gas if they are in line with the mother Raptor. Yes?
good game but kinda dislike the scientists being in white color. I am thinking to grab a copy of this game soon but was wondering any color suggestions for the scientists? I am planning to paint them myself once I get my copy though :)
If there's a fire but not near a scientist, can a fire card be played and add a fire next to an existing fire (Without having any scientist near it)? Like the fire was spreading (I love to play this game and also 7 wonders Duel, against my students. They try to beat be to get a price :) ) Yeah I use board games at work and it does wonders to help kids in school. Just saying (Ps sorry if my hand writting isn't so good. I'm a french canadian from Montreal Quebec ;)
Sam, I think your explanation for the fire rules are a little off. The fire tokens do not have to be in a straight line. It puts out any fire(s) orthognally connected. Excellent review! I'm really loving the game so far!
Actually, this game was not made for the dino theme at all. Originally, it was going to be a hobbit game, but when the original publisher dropped the project, they changed the theme to dinosaurs. check it out ;-)
+Johannes Blank The restock is the lowest card, so unless both players always tried to restock at the same time, I don't think that should have been possible.
This game is far, far too expensive for what you get. I just bought Descent 2.0 new for $55, only $20 more than this game, and I easily received over four times the amount of components. I'm interested in this for $20 max, $35 is a total rip off.
It was on my Amazon watch list and I wondered why. I rewatched the video (must have seen it before) and took your recommendation and bought it! Can't wait to play!

Wait, why can she remove fire? I have seen the whole Jurassic park series, and I remember nothing about dinosaurs being firefighters.
Those dino tails are mighty powerful.
This isn’t based on Jurassic park. Inspired by maybe
Thanks for the review, Sam! This is my number one most wanted game of the year! Hopefully I get it for Christmas :)
Think I'm gonna need to get some little feathers for the dinosaur minis though :P
Just happened on this. What a great looking/playing game recommendation. Thanks!

+Sam Healey Hey, no problem, mistakes happen. Nevertheless, played this game in Essen and it really surprised me how good this is!
+Sam Healey Doesn't really matter if some of the rules weren't correct. All is about showing the game
Looks like a mix of "Quoridor," "Top Trumps," and "Downfall of Pompii" all bundled up in a great little game. And by Matagot no less. Bounds to be in my collection some day.
Very good review. Have not been able to play it yet but I will watch to see if it comes out in my local game store.

I love this game. Thanks for the recommendations.
Looks very interesting. But unfortunately I can't find any info about the release date?

citmod Spot on
I still liked the game but me and my gf had the exact opposite experience. We have switched sides multiple times and the scientists win a large majority of the time.
Is there another game with this card dynamic (1-9)?
Libertalia, ponte vecchio... This game seems to be a lot of fun and a fairly simple game also. Reminded me of a card game called Terrible Monster...
I am very interested in this game. Ever since hearing the name during your Essen preview videos. The artwork looks amazing and gameplay seems easy enough to catch on, but has some complexity of moves to think through.

Great review Sam, didn't know about this game until you started talking about it and then this video. Keep up the good work sir. Cheers :-)

Yes...you are correct.
So what happens if they capture a baby so you can’t save 3?
good game but kinda dislike the scientists being in white color. I am thinking to grab a copy of this game soon but was wondering any color suggestions for the scientists? I am planning to paint them myself once I get my copy though :)
+PandaWithPants Red!
PandaWithPants dude the minis are tiny! so it might be difficult to paint.
Looks like a winner! Now I just have to find a copy :P
I love your reviews Sam
how the hell does a dinosaur put out forest fires?!?!?!?!
Great job... as always. Regards from Poland :)

+VotreDjPocail Yes
got this game st thge Spiel. really looking forward to playing the game
I'm not sure the last time I saw a game that made me feel bad about being a human as much as this one did. Thanks Sam.
Sam, I think your explanation for the fire rules are a little off. The fire tokens do not have to be in a straight line. It puts out any fire(s) orthognally connected. Excellent review! I'm really loving the game so far!
The momma raptor being a fire bender is weird to me.
Nice review but please explain the flow of the game before explaining various effects of the cards next time.
Actually, this game was not made for the dino theme at all. Originally, it was going to be a hobbit game, but when the original publisher dropped the project, they changed the theme to dinosaurs. check it out ;-)
I know that from talking with the designers...just cut it during editing because it wasn't necessary for the review.
Sure thing Sam! Keep up the cool reviews man, I very much enjoy them. Cheers from Belgium.
Hated this game in Essen. My scientist-restock cards never resolved and the couple on the board just got eaten
+Johannes Blank The restock is the lowest card, so unless both players always tried to restock at the same time, I don't think that should have been possible.
This is not what I thought it was gonna be ...
This review does not need to be almost 20 minutes long...

The raptors rarely win. This game is imbalanced.
Phil Williams lol a post up above said that it's way too easy to win with the raptors....
way too long for me...
