NOTE: The watch is being sold via the Time Red Co website now, not Kickstarter: timered.co/ This project was suspended on Kickstarter after a couple weeks of being live, surpassing the funding goal, and even being given the "Project We Love" tag. Kickstarter has not disclosed any reason to the team or backers as to why it was suspended. If you want to purchase the watch you can do so on their website.
oh really! they were that far along with production. Not surprised I guess since the one I got was basically final prototype. But yeah, let me know if it actually arrives! That would put more people at ease if they actually start showing up.
@WatchComplications That's what Redco are saying ....because kickstarter suspended their campaign it made buyers uneasy but I'm trying to do my bit by making positive comments, here, Instagram and on the kickstarter comments which are still live. The Limited run is 199 so its going to be a rare exceptional piece .
Ah, so cool to see the cheery red glow! My first watch back before Star Wars came out was a Texas Instruments LED watch. It had several of the similar settings (time, seconds, date, 12/24) as this one on your review. This triggers all that nostalgia for me. It would be fun and different to own, and not costing a small fortune like the modern PSR or something crazy. Fun review of this project. I can sense your engagement with it. I’m signed up for the launch notification. It appeals so much more than an Apple Watch or the like. And it does not seem too uber-geeky like some Nixie tube hardware. Nice review.
I think you captured the nostalgia and contrast with other watches quite well in your comment Terry. I'm still wearing the watch, haha. It's the perfect blend of tech, watch, and nostalgia for me. It'll get a lot of wrist time :) And yup, very reasonable starter prices.
thanks for watching. I wouldn’t be held up by 38mm though, unless you just like a large feeling watch on wrist. The case shape lends itself to a larger look than say a round 38mm case. And just the whole face makes the size fluid.
I literally made a kickstarter account just to get notified for this one. The nixie watches are huuuuge, this shrinks it to a *perfect* size. I might prefer steel over aluminum, but I bet this thing will look even better when its scratched up. My one concern is after-the-fact availability for the charger. Wondering if its a standard connector or if the manufacturer can sound off about replacements.
This is an excellent size. I'm very happy with the case design and wearability. It will be interesting to see what it looks like over time given the metal, but it's got a lot going for it in my opinion. Good point about the charger...certainly something to ask them in the comments once it launches on kickstarter, but it's a very basic charger...usb to two pins, could easily be made I think. I do wonder about the warranty/after purchase service options.
hey there. If you hold this watch in direct sunlight you aren't going to be able to see the time. the light washes out any sense of what tubes are on. you gotta shade it a bit.
@@thunderchild2237 I haven't opened it up but I imagine so. The type of Li battery pack being used in this typically has a plug that connects to the board, you would just unplug it and plug in the new one. The caseback comes off with four screws.
Redco Emailed me . Now, a company that was dodge would accept their fate and run but every part of me screams kickstarter mistake and all the support Redco have through this period should show kickstarter they need to re,look at the decision to suspend
based on their reply to me I would say the same. They did respond and seem unsure why it was suspended but are trying to work it out and seemed confident it would be reinstated.
Just saw the email myself. I plan on trying to contact them via the contact address I used to communicate with them and get some clarity. It’s certainly odd, since I received an actual working watch and have worn it for about two months now and used it for the review. They sent me exactly what they asked me to review, and they were responsive through the whole process.
@WatchComplications I've emailed redco and kickstarter but nothing yet . May I give you my Email Address and if you hear anything pop me message as I may not see anything here . Regards
my initial thought may be that the LED components weren’t original to the 80s and maybe they manufacturered them but then misrepresented in the campaign their origin. I’ll let everyone know or do a follow up video if I find out anything.
@WatchComplications I know once a campaign has been suspended then there is no going back unless an appeal is upheld. I do wonder though if it's anything to do with the nixoid watch that exact same design
@@thunderchild2237ah I found it and recall it now. IDK, those tubes are so different. This might be about the authenticity of the parts. But I can’t imagine a team going through a process and doing all that work for $40k in funding and then misrepresent. There has to be more money tied up in the production than that. I have a working final production watch, that didn’t come without significant cost. So wild.

Latest news is that watches ordered through their new website have started shipping and people are receiving them! I'd say buy with confidence.
Thank you for this video!
glad you liked it, thanks for watching.
Very interesting retro design, very tempted
It’s great. Still wearing it even I’m post review period. I never thought I’d wear a watch on each wrist but this watch might make me that person. 😂
Absolutely fabulous news that they have set up on own.
I've just ordered mine :)
Do let me know if/when you get the watch, would be interested in how long that might be, if they indicated that when you ordered it.
@WatchComplications
I've gone with $4 more for delivery between 15 and 40 days which is astonishing and fabulous 👌

all I know is that I have a working watch and I haven't had to charge it in two months...

Great review. This was shared to me via KS, via a Watches WhatsApp group I am in. Unfortunately this project lost me at 38mm. Great review though

I'm wearing this watch and 38mm is no issue

I did. Glad it arrived and is working as described. Feel free to send a pic or two to watchcomplications at gmail.
Hey ...
Did you try the watch out in daylight and if so what were thoughts 🤔:)
