Nah, I can almost guarantee that his base damage will be buffed, wallbreaks alone will make a lot of the TOD corner shenanigans impossible. Now the dash canceling on the other hand.... that probably won't survive
As a Slayer main I feel the need to comment on here. Slayer is definitely a frustrating character to play against, especially when you don't know how to deal with him, although he has some distinct weaknesses that, despite being stressful and annoying to play against, generally make him sub-par (at least in Xrd). He also has some pretty bad matchups in +R despite being very strong due to his weakness to projectiles (although he has enough tools to move around things if you know how) I feel like you should have mentioned how Slayer's neutral functions, you sort of touched on it talking about his dash, but his neutral is generally very committal and risky. He also is especially vulnerable to projectiles and even more so projectile yrc (a system mechanic he can't use all that well outside of movement and a safejump, which isn't bad, just not nearly as good as many other chars yrcs). He also doesn't have access to one of the most important movement options in Gear which is dash fd brake. Not having dash fd break makes it really hard for him to safely approach or cover distance between fireballs. He can dash through stuff and bdc around things, but that is usually committal, or doesn't really allow him to approach, just avoid. Also, Slayer's damage is only good with a counter hit or with meter, most of his meterless, non-counter hit combos aren't going to do too much damage, although he does get pretty consistent knockdowns outside of longer range grounded hits. Overall, I think Slayer is mostly a very stressful character to fight. He's the kind of character that can kill you off of one or two mistakes, so it can be stressful to keep him away and locked down, especially with bdc available. Also good video LK! I've been watching your stuff lately and I really like the insight you give into fighting games as an experienced player, keep up the good work!
I feel similarly as another Slayer main. Though as an addendum, I don't know why LK said that his combo conversion potential is crazy, because it's not. It's good *with meter*, and even then your damage potential off of mappa (even CH), is weak. He really needs CH + meter, unless it's something really stupid like you got hit by CH IL or CH K PB, and even then it doesn't even always lead to a combo unless it's in corner.
I love Slayer....in +R. Hate his Xrd self, so much less cool stuff he does now, and he just kills you super fast to compensate. He is one of the chars that was hurt the most by the removal of force breaks.

Haha maybe literally everybody already knows this but I only just realized you can act frame 1 after the animation if you don't do A, B, or C, so BT is a near unreactable counterpoint dash up throw that they're already/easily conditioned to block against, almost guaranteed to work the first time and will haunt their mental throughout the rest of the match as another mixup option to guess whether to block. To give some stronger specifics on Slayer and his weaknesses; - Slayer's grounded gatlings are incredibly limited, as strong as his S buttons are, he cannot gatling into them at all, he cant gatling into his 5HS either, his buttons have pretty good stun so he can do some links and flexible pressure, but his stuff will have a lot of gaps, which hurts his ability to accumulate risc which he really needs, he has pretty flexible gatlings into his D buttons and 6P at least - Mappa Hutch his main gap closer is either minus or 0 on hit, im not entirely sure, and -2 on block, it's also usually his only ender after hitting a raw normal or short gatling, other than 2D sometimes at closer range, meaning Slayer cant apply pressure after a lot of weaker combos that safely - In general, Slayer's ability to convert into any kind of meaningful combo is incredibly dependant on either air connect, R-RC, or having his opponent right in the corner, without those he gets very little, but with them he gets quite a lot, he gets incredibly high damage if he has both R-RC *and* the corner - Dandy Step is interesting, Under Pressure (S) leads into an incredibly potent High/Low mixup (tbh if you have no risc, just taking the high doesnt hurt much), however Dandy step itself is pretty vulnerable to getting stuffed, to compensate for this, Slayer's other 3 follow ups are built to deal with different options from the opponent, Crosswheel Heel (K) is upper body invuln, not a reversal, and very minus on block, it leads to a very strong combo on hit though, Helter Skelter (HS) is low invuln, very plus on block, but doesnt lead into much on hit (more if you have 50 tension) (it's also one of the best YRCs in the game for oki pressure), and lastly Pilebunker (P) is disjointed but not invuln, doesnt give you much on normal hit, is incredibly minus on block and has bad recovery on whiff, but deals tremendous absurd amounts of damage on counter hit (or in the corner with K ver. or R-RC), all of them are mids, it depends on who he's fighting, but usually the risk/reward is in his opponents favor, Crosswheel Heel being as bad on block as it is is the biggest issue, Dandy Step into nothing into Blitz is an option in some cases, but it's iffy A lot of these things are knowledge checks, but if the opponent knows about them, they can do a lot to bother slayer, his dependency on the corner and his opponents respect for Dandy pressure especially
Slayer really felt he was a Strive character. This makes you think if that would benefit for him in Strive because he is gonna even do even more damage or won’t benefit him because most of the cast can do high damage conversions in Strive
The thing that most people dont get with him is the fact that the guy has POKES that are freaking +.Now that might very well change in Strive but holyshit,Slayer's 5K,2K,2P, Dandy Step(214P/K) 2nd hit are ALL + on block. He already doesnt havent gatlings like most Strive characters dont..LOL Coming March 19th,you ALL are gonna stay Dandy my friends and kneel to _Lord Slayer_ 🤣
I think there’s a good reason why he has so many plus normals. Mainly since he doesn’t have a projectile and he’s a primarily close range character. None of his normals are disjointed either (unless we wanna count 6p as a disjoint but really that’s just scraping the bottom of the barrel). I think his frame data on his normals and ability to dash cancel will be big factors for if he’s viable or not in strive.
@@THE_BIG_OL_UNIT With that said since in the story in Strive right now Zato is even addressing him as "Lord Slayer",there a chance that he wont have a blood gauge of his own to deal with? Id consider 2H and his 6H disjointed to be honest due to the fact that they are apart from frame traps via 5K
@@zeokenx2 I mean he’s never had a blood gauge to begin with. Also if he did have one and it allowed him to cancel specials like nago, pilebunker would be the absolute best move in the game because he would be able to cancel into mappa or undertow. 2H can sometimes feel like a disjoint, but there are a lot of characters that have tools against it. Idk about 6H though. I mainly use it to just catch jumps in the corner.
@@THE_BIG_OL_UNIT What I did in my short time in XRD with Slayer was 5K > 6H > Dandy (Under Pressure) since the 1st hit on block was 0 if it wasnt JF blocked(harder to do in Strive),and what Ive seen was that 6H stuff out ALOT of moves than just jumps. While there is tools vs 2H,that move on itself can be thrown out and RCed even on whiff and goes over other low profile lows.If those same properities of Slayer's 2H come to Strive,Gio's 2D for example would be outclassed by it.Slayer's tick throw game is gonna be stupid good too thanks to 2F throws in Strive.
One of the best comments I’ve ever heard regarding the psychology of guilty gear fans is “every player hates every character except for the one they play”
So for the recent annoucement (as of late april 2024), i've come to check why Slayer is strong then i see 1:12 and i watch the trailer in Strive where he gets a guaranteed lvl 3 counter and im like: AWWW HELL NAH
Slayer doing like unpunishable -3 into bdc gambling is so insanely tilting, like i go for resets/otg tech traps all the time against slayer just cuz his wakeup is so obnoxious especially in +R where he can wakeup FB Pilebunker for a DP thats -3, really hate how he just changes the whole neutral and offense, with his stupidly high return
I know I'm late af and I didn't play xrd, but, would giving him a blood rage similar to Nago help make him bearable in strive? That way he can't just loop specials in the corner.
As an Xrd I-no main. I hate fighting Slayer. I get counterhit, I die and I have to constantly lock him down with note oki to stop him from doing wakeup bdc. His 6p OBLITERATES her hoverdash mix if its not locked by note, Mappa Hunch goes under Chemical Love unless it's tk'ed, and I have to wait see what he does after Dandy Step in neutral. I'd rather fight Leo.
He has some mechanical barriers, the bad matchups (which he has quite a few) require some thinking, and he is a very commital character, requiring hard reads. But other than that, there’s not much else. I’d say he’s medium difficulty.
I disagree about combo conversion for Slayer. Unless he gets like a cS starter, his next best ender is mappa, which doesn't knock down and leaves him barely plus. He gets mad reward off of CH for sure, but relying on CH is the exact opposite of consistency. Basically, people hate Slayer for the same reason they hate Baiken: the fact that they have a unique and strong defensive option that supplements both their offense and defense. For Slayer in particular it supplements offense, because say he does a mappa and you block it, he's minus but unpunishable. If you try to press that advantage, he can BDC mappa, counter hit you, and fully convert off of that. This also applies to blocking his 6P like you mentioned in the video. He has no cancels, but can gamble with a BDC to try and force his offense and punish you for challenging.
I'm more familiar with +R Slayer, but many of his conversions rely on links specifically because his big combo routes are meant to be locked behind CH or meter use. Most of his meterless non-CH BnB ground combos in +R are short and start off pokes like 5K or 2K, sometimes c.S (which cannot be comboed into). 6P can usually convert into big damage on hit but doesn't lead to any pressure on block. Most of his moves end up being conditioning for his call-out tools (6P, PB, IL) which then turn into meme damage
@@supernebula101 In +R his conversions are way more consistent because BBU is a fucked up move that gives him mad damage for 25% meter. In Xrd the saucy metered stuff is behind 50 for the most part. In Xrd his gatlings are all hella limited too, unless it's off of cS or P normals. He's basically got Strive gatlings where he can only do command normals
@@NeoBoneGirl That's true, BBU is badass. Moves like that and 2H are kind of his "do anything" gateways that I feel are there to make up for limited gatlings. I omitted BBU in my comment only because it's either a punish or call-out move that costs meter, but you are correct.
IMO in Xrd his conversion ability is pretty reliable. You def get full combo from air vs air and anti air, and the way his pressure is generally structured, if he hits you it should convert to full combo (especially on CH). His ground vs ground conversion will def vary though.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO SO I DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN IT TO PEOPLE WHO DONT PLAY EVERY TIME. Bloodsucking universe is also super annoying for me IMO. I don't like having to fucking destroy my stick just so I don't get fucking grabbed over and over again on 4 frames god.

- Slayer's grounded gatlings are incredibly limited, as strong as his S buttons are, he cannot gatling into them at all, he cant gatling into his 5HS either, his buttons have pretty good stun so he can do some links and flexible pressure, but his stuff will have a lot of gaps, which hurts his ability to accumulate risc which he really needs, he has pretty flexible gatlings into his D buttons and 6P at least
- Mappa Hutch his main gap closer is either minus or 0 on hit, im not entirely sure, and -2 on block, it's also usually his only ender after hitting a raw normal or short gatling, other than 2D sometimes at closer range, meaning Slayer cant apply pressure after a lot of weaker combos that safely
- In general, Slayer's ability to convert into any kind of meaningful combo is incredibly dependant on either air connect, R-RC, or having his opponent right in the corner, without those he gets very little, but with them he gets quite a lot, he gets incredibly high damage if he has both R-RC *and* the corner
- Dandy Step is interesting, Under Pressure (S) leads into an incredibly potent High/Low mixup (tbh if you have no risc, just taking the high doesnt hurt much), however Dandy step itself is pretty vulnerable to getting stuffed, to compensate for this, Slayer's other 3 follow ups are built to deal with different options from the opponent, Crosswheel Heel (K) is upper body invuln, not a reversal, and very minus on block, it leads to a very strong combo on hit though, Helter Skelter (HS) is low invuln, very plus on block, but doesnt lead into much on hit (more if you have 50 tension) (it's also one of the best YRCs in the game for oki pressure), and lastly Pilebunker (P) is disjointed but not invuln, doesnt give you much on normal hit, is incredibly minus on block and has bad recovery on whiff, but deals tremendous absurd amounts of damage on counter hit (or in the corner with K ver. or R-RC), all of them are mids, it depends on who he's fighting, but usually the risk/reward is in his opponents favor, Crosswheel Heel being as bad on block as it is is the biggest issue, Dandy Step into nothing into Blitz is an option in some cases, but it's iffy
A lot of these things are knowledge checks, but if the opponent knows about them, they can do a lot to bother slayer, his dependency on the corner and his opponents respect for Dandy pressure especially
Yall aint safe no more
Slayer really felt he was a Strive character. This makes you think if that would benefit for him in Strive because he is gonna even do even more damage or won’t benefit him because most of the cast can do high damage conversions in Strive
Calling it Slayer will be the announced character this weekend at Arc Revo.
Should be that man though, since freak he's been apart of the series from the beginning and yet nothing!
i'm hoping its asuka, every dlc has appeared in the story but not slayer
@@sliceospice baiken wasnt in the story
They said next character was a story character, not a returning character so
@@tragicblvd Source?
man really changed the thumbnail on a 2 year old video huh
The thing that most people dont get with him is the fact that the guy has POKES that are freaking +.Now that might very well change in Strive but holyshit,Slayer's 5K,2K,2P, Dandy Step(214P/K) 2nd hit are ALL + on block. He already doesnt havent gatlings like most Strive characters dont..LOL
Coming March 19th,you ALL are gonna stay Dandy my friends and kneel to _Lord Slayer_ 🤣
While there is tools vs 2H,that move on itself can be thrown out and RCed even on whiff and goes over other low profile lows.If those same properities of Slayer's 2H come to Strive,Gio's 2D for example would be outclassed by it.Slayer's tick throw game is gonna be stupid good too thanks to 2F throws in Strive.
its funny cuz i just got rev2 recently and picked slayer
One of the best comments I’ve ever heard regarding the psychology of guilty gear fans is “every player hates every character except for the one they play”
The baiting and burst damage the character has to make reminds me of Melee's Ganondorf tbh.
Y'all about to start strongly disliking all over again.
Well, he just got announced, so here he comes!
everyone hates everyone that they don't play, is part of the GG experience
Naw, sometimes you hate the player you do play.
I play asuka in Tekken 7 and I hate mirror matches.
I like that you use the Vanguard Princess ost
LK was able to predict slayer in strive next he will predict answer
Welcome back everybody.
So for the recent annoucement (as of late april 2024), i've come to check why Slayer is strong then i see 1:12 and i watch the trailer in Strive where he gets a guaranteed lvl 3 counter and im like: AWWW HELL NAH
"ive done vids for characters that are not in strive" well well well slayer is now teased at for strive LMAO
Stay mad.
You had to get rid of Slayer for Strive cuz ya'll can't handle my man.
Welcome back my beautifully handsome dandy king.
I know I'm late af and I didn't play xrd, but, would giving him a blood rage similar to Nago help make him bearable in strive? That way he can't just loop specials in the corner.
Loved the editing in this one!
Slayer I love him I mained him at one point but I still get my ass kicked by him so can't hit a man's who feels way less shitty to lose too
As an Xrd I-no main.
Heheha
Only 22 days left
He didn't even talk about his knockdown vortex lol
I main Leo in strive and strive is my first guilty gear game im really hoping slayer gets added next
I love slayer.
It's Roll Cancelling from CvS2 :O
There is always people who hate a character, we are on the internet after all
Does anyone have the link to the original? 0:53
Strive needs Raven and Slayer
Leopaldon or bust
he's rpetty much gonna be hte last dlc fighter according to how the leak had the same dialogue as baiken did
Slayer is super hard to play though lmfao.
I'm a Slayer main and have been one for a while now, let me tell you that he is indeed in +R but definitely not in Xrd.
@@cloude8496 I see. Interesting.
@@cloude8496 people vastly overestimate the difficulty of Xrd, +R is actually close to being as hard as people think Xrd is
@@jonnysac77 i'll point out that what i'm saying doesn't apply to the game in general but just to Slayer.
He has some mechanical barriers, the bad matchups (which he has quite a few) require some thinking, and he is a very commital character, requiring hard reads. But other than that, there’s not much else. I’d say he’s medium difficulty.
Slayer is a mid to low tier character who blows up scrubs that don't know how to deal with him.
Uhh there’s also 2D instead of Mappa, which still gives good damage and a knockdown
Coming here after the elphelt leaks to cope with the fact that I can't pilebunker Nago's yet
Sounds iffy, but fortunately strive has a universal mechanic to beat him. Hold 2 on the match up screen
11 more days ❤️
He...lives up to his name....
if slayer has no haters i am dead
If slayer has no fans I'm dead
If Slayer has no fans I am dead.
Any tipps herr for strive beginners?
I played a lot of fighterz but I can’t really get into strive it’s a bit more complicated 😕
join one of the discords and find new players to learn with. Play with the intent to learn instead of to win it'll help a lot. Learn one mid screen combo, one corner combo and go from there.
@@Staring_at_Walls thanks my man🙏🏻
Well well well, guess who just got confirmed for strive
TBH it would be insanely funny in the low chance the final S3 character somehow isn't Slayer just because of how obvious this silhouette is.
I still like him but I also play faust so maybe that's why I don't have as big of a problem.
Could you please make more ultimax videos. I’m really excited for the game and I want to play competitively
3:53 Milliseconds before disaster.
Slayer should replace anji as the counterhit fisher in strive since anji got *tweaked*
This still doesn't address why anyone dislikes slayer. Nobody dislikes slayer, he's cool af
Im looking for the 5 pilebunker combo, you guys know where I can find it?
I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't really care what character my opponent is playing lol.
"his damage really high", look at the RISC gauge, yea I wonder why
I am here to re-boost the algorithm for Slayer in Strive
