Gabe Vincent got overpaid after one super hot series vs Celtics in ECF. He’s a career 33% 3P shooter and ppl think he’s a good shooter (he’s also 34.7% from 3 in playoffs still below league avg). He and max are overpaid that’s the problem. Max was paid more than he needed to be before he had proven anything (he was 404/450 in EPM). On the Lakers in 18 games now Gabe is averaging 3, 2, 1 on 30/11 horrific splits. Pelinka makes so many mistakes since summer 2021 it’s insane! They should have been able to bring Prince back on the minimum! The fact he didn’t bring in ANY big the last 12 months is crazy too.
Its been the same with Dlo... lathargic game play, terrible on offense when you expect more being the 3rd option. Lackluster to no-show in post season for his career. He'll have a breakout game and then back to doughnuts and sprinkles. Fans are tired of the inconsistency and the games lost have been more impactful than the games won with him.
D'lo did everything very well except for hitting his wide open shots. Gabe Vincent wasn't noticeably bad for me, but his shot selection over the pre-season was bad. Max C actually had a bad game on both ends of the floor. What I noticed about Max C is that he needs to gain experience defending certain types of players. I think he's got all the tools to be a great defender, but due to lack of experience, veteran savvy is taking him for a ride. On offense, I think it's clear to me that Max C's shooting mechanics are very good when he has a longer time to shoot. If Max C tries to take shots in short windows, like Knecht can do, his shot mechanics fall apart. Max C not being able to handle the ball means that if the defense closes out on him, he will either rush his shot or he will get trapped. I'm not saying to trade him, but theses are things he needs to work on.

He’s less experienced than Knecht who’s 2 years older than him and has played basketball at a bunch of different levels of competition (two different Junior college’s and a D1 school in Tennessee). Max needs a lot of help from his vets. He needs a rondo, a Danny green, a Kyle Lowry, a Chris Paul. Someone to tell him how to play certain guys and accelerate his growth. I still believe in him. You can actually tell those who watched the game and those who rely only on box scores. Because what the box score does not show you is the heave of 60 ft as the quarter ended. Nor does it show you the desperation when getting the ball 30 feet away with 1 second on the clock. That's why no one is talking about Reaves.

I honestly think Dlo and Austin's shooting woes are just how they start seasons. They shot poorly last season to start too. We’ve seen Max for two seasons now it’s not a one game sample size he is who he is. He has a very low ceiling. He can get better on the margins, but he’s not gonna suddenly grow in to a third or fourth or fifth best player on your roster. It’s just not gonna happen. He’s just a guy he’s a replacement level player. I don’t think he’ll ever be a rotation player. Of course I would love to be wrong, but after two seasons, I just haven’t seen any real growth. 🤷

The Lakers see the “potential” to have a 3rd or 4th option for less than $10 million per season…Kobe still showed amazing talent, even in his rookie year. Max played 67 games last year in his second season, and he averaged almost 15 minutes per game. Kobe was drafted younger than max and had a better season his rookie year than Max’s second year..in roughly the same minutes per game. Max has gotten a bit more filled out, but his flaws are the same. He still can’t handle the ball in traffic or under pressure defense. He’s still handsy and foul prone and tends to over pursue on defense, he still shies away from shots and hides on the floor for long stretches. These issues should go away after a rookie campaign, not permeate into year 3…I like him. I’m rooting for him. I just don’t believe in him, and I certainly wouldn’t have given him that massive contract extension.🤷
This is only the 1st game and there are 81 more in the regular season (and perhaps +1 if again the Lakers makes in the NBA Cup finals) So there could some be more adjusments to do. Also hopefully they at least still give Quincy Olivari playing time at least one game if they might need some of his energy.....

It's normal to have some players in a relatively bad condition. What's important is to adjust their time and job on court based on that, and I think JJ did a great job on this last night.

when ever u bring up dlo and say that he needs to be traded..all of the sudden every body gets memory of a gold fish and say "its just one game" brother are u telling me i was watching dlo's hologram and not him the last 2 years?? even before that i had my doubts about him. u cant have a guard who cant create his own shot or shoot consistently and at the same time be an absolute liability on defense.. its nothing personal to him we just need a better personalle at that position. its not hate its objective criticism.

i'm not worried about gabe or max cause both of em have replacements (kinda) . as poor as reddish can be at times his defense is still good (so he could always come in and give you a good 6-7 points) while a guy like quincy olivary can sneak in and take gabes spot (with his contract his games are limited) but it could work. however Dlo has nobody on that squad to challange his playmaking or shooting . That's why i hope we go and sign a guy like lonny walker who at least can shoot as good as dlo ,better defender and is a lot more athletic. get him in and give dlo some competition.

DLo defense is what concerns me. He still cant rebound. He has trouble againtst full court pressure. He is not a good pick setter. I dont want excitement, I want consitency from him.. Max is finding his shots. He hasnt played much. Gabe is learning the feel of the offense. Max and Gabe play defense tho. DLO is still a blow by which causes a 4 on 3!

Dalton hasn't been in the nba a month yet, and you can already tell the difference in their mentalities and how higher Dalton's ceiling is than Max's! If the Lakers played guys based on their merit, Dalton Knecht will have more minutes than Max Christie... this is basic basketball analysis.
Max is 2 years younger than Knecht and only 21. He barely even got to play last year. You need to improve your "basic analysis" skills.
