Well she wasn't apparently that good in 2008. Listen to her live 'Love Song' recording from the bottle you up EP. She's just gotten so much better to the point she's amazing now. Or she was really nervous back when she first got famous.
At first I thought that she probably does have auto-tune, but when she sings "I wanna see you be brave" you can hear small imperfections in her pitch. I love those imperfections because it just brings a human element to the performance. She has definitely got some pipes!
This piano accompaniment is deceptively simple; it's actually insanely tricky to keep that rhythm while singing-it's kind of incredible that she does it without ever losing the beat.
It’s easier than you think… she’s not thinking about it, your body automatically keeps and stays on tempo it’s subconsciously done with repetition… similar to affirmations… I’m a drummer 🤣 trust me hahah, btw we do this by right foot usually, sara does the same…
It’s called muscle memory you do it over and over until it’s just natural and as some of you said you don’t even think about it. I guarantee she played this thousands of hrs to get it perfect. Still she’s a talent unlike any other! I’ve seen her once live and it was mind blowing! Her dedication to her craft is not found in many!
When this song first came out, I heard it on the radio when my alarm went off. I was struggling with an abusive relationship and felt trapped, because we owned a house together. I wanted out, but I was afraid. I heard the lyrics, "say what you want to say," "maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live," and "WHY DON'T YOU TELL HIM THE TRUTH!" This song literally lit a fire under my butt and gave me the guts to make a move. And I did. It was hard. It was heartbreaking. But there WAS a way out of the cage where I lived. I never looked back. Thank you Sara Bareilles for this powerful song. Changed my life.
YESS, She can actually sing it like the album version live. (and not go into head voice when it gets high) I have so much respect if an artist can actually sing their song live just as good as in the studio. GO SARA !!
DelightfulMusic Nothing, but it's harder to belt out the high notes instead of going into the "safe" head voice. And I'm just glad to know that she can actually belt out the high notes.
+Jan Turkenburg I agree she is one of the very few artist who doesn't use Autotune at all of too many filters. What you see is what you get. AMAZING. ITS THE EXACT SAME AS THE ALBUM VERSION. RESPECT.
Giuseppino Castellano I know but like you said less auto tune then others. Anyways This IS ONE VERY GOOD performance. (Sorry for the caps. Not yelling.)
Or maybe she is happy as she is. Not Madonna level, but really, who wants to be full pop? I love Sara for not selling out and being authentic, amazing and cool.
She is one of the few that actually has TALENT. If you sound exactly or better than the recording, you have true talent. She is one of the few female artist I actually listen.
The live version is 100,000 times better than the recorded version. I don't understand why they added the beats and what not in the recorded version, all she needs is the piano.
I also think that the piano is all that she needs, but with the studio version I think the extra elements add more energy to the song. I feel like with the studio version there's more energy at the 1st downbeat of the chorus and just even more energy when the backing vocals come in. Either way...wether she's in the studio or performing live, she has got to be one of the best of today's talents.
I don't really like the pop music that is played all day long on the radio, but Sara Bareilles is different. She's a legitimate musician and for that I truly respect her.
+Landon Turner Sorry for the this offensive statement, but my honest reaction to your friend: "Wow. She has no soul." LOL. Seriously though - your friend must be trying to actively be a hater. That, or she's actually deaf.
That is so sad. I wonder what your friend listens to. She mustn't have heard a lot of great singers to think that. It's too bad, your friend will never get to know Sara's true artistry because she's stuck listening to other singers who are not "generic" like Sara B.
You can be amazing You can turn a phrase into A weapon or a drug You can be the outcast Or be the backlash Of somebody's lack of love Or you can start speaking up Nothing's gonna hurt you The way that words do And they settle 'neath your skin Kept on the inside No sunlight Sometimes a shadow wins But I wonder what would happen if you Say What you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave Everybody's been there Everybody's been stared down By the enemy Fallen for the fear And done some disappearing Bowed down to the mighty Don't run Stop holding your tongue Maybe there's a way out Of the cage where you live Maybe one of these days You can let the light in Show me How big your brave is Say What you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave Innocence your history of silence Won't do you any good Did you think it would? ***** Say it to all those amazed viewers that saw her live. She's fucking amazing whether it's studio version, pre-recorded version or Live version. Period.
Egotistical Man oh yeah no doubt, i'm just saying it's still possible to edit live recordings =p. I mean they most likely had to mix the recordings to make it sound good right? in that sense it's still edited, but not in a bad way or lack of talent. it's just something that's needed to be done
This is one of the most uplifting songs of the last two years! Don't let anyone push you around! I just went through some unfair situations recently. No matter the outcome, I feel better knowing. That I spoke up for myself ....... don't give anyone power over you but God!
Such a great vocalist. Dead on and so strong on those high notes. Hearing someone like this makes me wonder why mankind ever needed to invent autotune, and how we can possibly remove it from the face of the earth.
Artist so impeccable - that is Sara Bareilles. It doesn't matter whether I listen and watch OR only listen, this song is the perfect manly excuse to cry.
even live, she sounds Inspiring. maybe, even better then when studio recorded. I...love...this..song. Also this probably just has to do with my personal life but, does anyone else cry during this song? (mostly when live for me)
God, She has such a Strong voice! and she sounds amazing Live. I haven't heard someone who can sing like that without their Voice trembling like their shaking or trying so hard. She makes singing feel like it should be easy, She sure as hell has talent!. Love her voice and I love this song so much. I wish I could have listened to her singing in person. I have goosebumps! Thank you for being such an Inspiration with your song Sara Bareilles
Guys, "Brave" doesn't sound like Roar. Roar sounds like Brave. Look at the music videos and see when they both came out. Yeah. Katy Perry copies the beat a lot from a lot of singers.
One of the very few artist who doesn't use Autotune at all of too many filters. What you see is what you get. AMAZING. ITS THE EXACT SAME AS THE ALBUM VERSION. RESPECT.
Sara is amazing, she gives so much emotion to her songs, you can hear it in her words and see it in her face and eyes and body. This artist makes me smile.
She's got "crazy skills." She always pitch PERFECT, always uses her voice as her main instrument, and has mastered the art of control over her already-impressive-range. She's just a tremendous all around singer as well as songwriter. VERY REFRESHING! ;) This is what talent sounds like.
Every time I listen to this song it makes me want to do everything I wanted to do without having to think about it while doing it. This song makes me want to change the world in so many ways that it's un-describable
I don't know what, but there's just something about people singing in high pitch, while playing piano, that always pulls out tears out :') Simply beautiful performance......
No doubt about it, Sara..."The Blessed Unrest" is your masterpiece. I've lost count of how many times I've played it. Have played this song and "I Choose You" the most, but it's ALL great. Hope I get to see you live one day.
Currently, she's No.1 in Australia. There is no US market for 'soft rock' female artists. However, this kind of music does well in other Western countries.
Pure artist. Love this. So hard to find this kind of music in this 'lady-gaga' era. Really really inspiring song, the message is to be brave to say the truth in your life. In the otherside, lady gaga sing about sex dream.
when things are going the worst in my life and I want to toss in the towel and wonder if all this work to be healthy is really worth it......I listen to this song. BRAVE. I'm so grateful for my recovery. I have another high/drunk in me. Not sure I can recover again. I was at death's door when I came to the program and I was saved for a reason......
I have to say this song makes me feel brave for the first TIME……….. Sara makes be feel that i don't care if people laugh at me.Im beautiful the way i am.NO MAKEUP just pretty the way I AM.
For past many days, I have trying to trying to remember this song, Couldn't recall. All I had in my mind was a lady with hat and singing by the piano. I searched my entire youtube history to check for this song but in vain. Then by a basic search in youtube for female artists singing on piano, I finally found this song
She is easily one of the best musicians out there. Way too underrated. She can sing circles around most performers. I'd love a cd that's live or just her and the piano.
Don't know why I discovered her so late. She has a great voice. Her voice in high pitches is awesome. Do we have the wrong people at the top because probably she deserves a place up there.
Aaaah so THAT'S her. For years i've tried to know who she was but she confused me. She's supposed to be this popular artist that everyone knows and yet, she's not making the hits? She has a gorgeously sensitive voice.
I remember someone told me she sucked live, so I looked on TH-cam for her singing live. WTF IS WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE!? SHES AMAZING!
Who fucking said that? :rip:
What the F??? Sara is AMAZING LIVE!!!!!
Jalous people ;)
Tazz McLeod haters gonna hate bruhh. eff them haters
Well she wasn't apparently that good in 2008. Listen to her live 'Love Song' recording from the bottle you up EP. She's just gotten so much better to the point she's amazing now. Or she was really nervous back when she first got famous.
I always start cyring at 2:54, there's just so much kindness in her voice.
Don't be such a snowflake
True. Her voice in this version conveys more emotion than the recorded one. Very moving.
U get a sense of who these people are deep down, specially when they wrote it, like Sarah her did
Absolutely !
Her voice is amazing. Love seeing singers who can perform live so well.
you literally stole the words i was about to type...
Mariam Hassan It's okay. Here, take one thumbs up. ^_^
***** ha! thanks :)
So nice to hear a voice without shitty autotune. This lady is a true talent and has a serious set of pipes
At first I thought that she probably does have auto-tune, but when she sings "I wanna see you be brave" you can hear small imperfections in her pitch. I love those imperfections because it just brings a human element to the performance. She has definitely got some pipes!
Antares Hartley This is true, she is great singer.

@@WOLFM0THER I'm still alive too! LOL
This piano accompaniment is deceptively simple; it's actually insanely tricky to keep that rhythm while singing-it's kind of incredible that she does it without ever losing the beat.
+JSA Lowe i love the piano song, its so simple.
So true. I second this! Those syncopated rhythms with the straight vocals are so tough to do simultaneously.
That's exactly what I was about to comment......

What wrong with head voice?
Not yelling.)
absolutely!!!! couldn't agree more...!!!
Damn.. that voice.
Truly a million dollar voice you got here Sara :)
Her pitch is impressive.
she makes it look effortless. ;)
Very.
She's one of those rare artists that sound just as great, if not better, than on the radio. She is REALLY underrated.
I wouldn't say underrated...she was nominated for 2 Grammy's including best album.
U so right
Or maybe she is happy as she is. Not Madonna level, but really, who wants to be full pop? I love Sara for not selling out and being authentic, amazing and cool.
That's the same with Sam Smith!
Her voice is amazing, love this woman
Agree
Ikr! Agreeeeeed!..
Absolutely. I just became a fan. I mean just now as I type this. I think I even fell a little teeny bit in love as well...
She is one of the few that actually has TALENT. If you sound exactly or better than the recording, you have true talent. She is one of the few female artist I actually listen.
The live version is 100,000 times better than the recorded version. I don't understand why they added the beats and what not in the recorded version, all she needs is the piano.
They did that to get radio play. Sadly radio won't play something stripped like this...
Desinormant Stay is a ballad...
Hell, she doesn't even need the piano either. ;)
I always think the live versions of her songs are way better than the recorded ones. Her voice is so amazing that it doesn't need anything else.
Everyone talks about the performance but how many people actually pay attention to the message of the song???
I listened but not until I happened upon this version. I added my own comment recently...this song truly reached me...at the right time
The song has actually a great message which is becoming brave no matter what.
The story behind the song is beautiful
A true musician...can't get enough of this woman's musicianship and voice!
I think she is the only singer that is better with live than studio version...
Brendon urie
Chester Bennington was RIP
Paramore
Paul McCartney's voice in the 1970's live was much better than studio versions.
Pink as well
She is soooo underated. One of the best artists of our time.. Great songwriter, singer, and musician. And such a cool awesome person. Love you Sara!!
I don't really like the pop music that is played all day long on the radio, but Sara Bareilles is different. She's a legitimate musician and for that I truly respect her.
Her voice and her piano that´s all it needs to be perfect!!!!
My friend hates Sara Bareilles because she says her voice is "too generic". Like if you think she's nuts.
+Landon Turner Generic? Sara has a dynamic, soulful, beautiful voice like no other. Your friend has no taste.
Yeah I haven't talked to her in 3 years
+Landon Turner I think some of her song lyrics are generic but only a few. Her voice is astronomical though.
+Landon Turner Sorry for the this offensive statement, but my honest reaction to your friend: "Wow. She has no soul."
LOL.
There's something beautiful about a song with just a piano and a voice.
Heard her for the first time today on palladia. I'm 62 yrs old and she blows me away. To me she's the new Carole king.
Did you catch her performance at the Grammys with Carole King? Look it up, it's here on TH-cam :)
You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into
A weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash
Of somebody's lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing's gonna hurt you
The way that words do
And they settle 'neath your skin
Kept on the inside
No sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you
Say
What you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly
I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
Everybody's been there
Everybody's been stared down
By the enemy
Fallen for the fear
And done some disappearing
Bowed down to the mighty
Don't run
Stop holding your tongue
Maybe there's a way out
Of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days
You can let the light in
Show me
How big your brave is
Say
What you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly
I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly
I wanna see you be brave
Innocence your history of silence
Won't do you any good
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don't you tell them the truth?
Say
What you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly
I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
See you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
Great song writing and music. Be brave has both
this song continue to make me feel brave...thank you for creating this masterpiece.
This is a lot better than the recorded version
The only pop singer so far that can sing without auto tune.
+Henry Chan you're forgeting Taylor Swift, who can also, sing without auto tune (:
+heretohelpyou221 well, kind of. Both of them sound weak, but at least the can get most of the notes right.
lady fucking gaga looooool
Ariana, Demi, Beyonce, Adele, Gaga, Nick Jonas, Zayn, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, etc can all sing without autotune.
+Henry Chan....actualy writes her own music...
I like this much, much better than the official video.
Live, unedited, acoustic versions, are the true test of an artists talent. Sara is off the charts!
sandmanmac technically it's still possible to edit live audio/video recordings. studio recordings are recorded 'live' as well, if you get what i mean.
Ahhh, I see. Thanks for enlightening me.
She is insane. So much talent. Why isn' t she on AMAs or things like that?
I don't know what it is, but I think she has something special in her voice and performance, what make me happy.
Pure magic..
She is one of the few real singers entertainers these days..
She is amazing and pretty!
I dont know why but here live songs are better than the studio versions.
This is one of the most uplifting songs of the last two years! Don't let anyone push you around! I just went through some unfair situations recently. No matter the outcome, I feel better knowing. That I spoke up for myself ....... don't give anyone power over you but God!
god, she's such an amazing talent. no tricks, no nothing. just her. gorgeous.
this is perfect! the kind of performance where you can really feel the meaning of the music
She's a sunset.
I'd like to point out how hard this is to play and sing, absolutely stunning live. Historic song
Hope she wins a Grammy :)
What an amazing talent. I love this song.
I have listened to this song at least 3 times each day for the last week, it has become my inspiration.
I only subscribe to artists that sing well live, and make their own music. and of course if i like their music. Sara is one of them indeed.
(mostly when live for me)
Bea's Beauty I do.. I cry.. I am
trying to be brave.
+divya subbu
👍 keep being brave!
I will try to do the same. 😭😃😊
same. it must be words we wanted to hear rn.
We need more artist like this who can actually sing live and still sound as good as the studio version
This song is so inspiring to me. I love her voice, (especially when she doesn't go into her head voice when it gets high) Thanks so much for this!
Thank you Sara! This song is such an inspiration and man, what a beauty on stage.
She deserves so much more. Like, the sky.
So underrated😭 , she hit every single note so perfectly it hurts
Real talent, no special effects or studio make up, touchy and so good songs, thanks life for discover such wonderful artist, long life to Sara
Guys, "Brave" doesn't sound like Roar. Roar sounds like Brave. Look at the music videos and see when they both came out. Yeah. Katy Perry copies the beat a lot from a lot of singers.
brave was recorded on 2011 and roar on 2013
Roar is just a horrible song.
David Liu Agreed! I HATE Roar and cannot stand 1 second of it.
katy perry is a known thief
Finally. Someone who can actually sing live and sound the same in the music video!!! Auto tone kills songs but this is amazinggggg. 😍😍
The fact that she can sound that good live shows how talented she is. It's almost better than the studio version 💯
It IS better than the studio version.
Everything about this video is just perfect. There's nothing else to say.
Love the way sara sings out from her heart
It's 2020 and still this woman gives me GOSEBUMPS!!
She has such a beautiful voice !!!!
One of the people who can sing live beautifully :)
She's got "crazy skills." She always pitch PERFECT, always uses her voice as her main instrument, and has mastered the art of control over her already-impressive-range. She's just a tremendous all around singer as well as songwriter. VERY REFRESHING! ;) This is what talent sounds like.
Her voice is amazing, such control it is just unbelievable
This performance dominates! Brutal voice, so much control! :)
Every time I listen to this song it makes me want to do everything I wanted to do without having to think about it while doing it. This song makes me want to change the world in so many ways that it's un-describable
That's exactly how I feel every time I listen to it.
I don't know what, but there's just something about people singing in high pitch, while playing piano, that always pulls out tears out :')
Simply beautiful performance......
Damn... How is she that talented ! That song is a masterpiece
Holy... she sounds even better live o.O
bitch u did that . flawless sittinq down . difficult to do . every note is perfect .
wow, wasn't expecting this to sound so good live, what a beautiful voice
No doubt about it, Sara..."The Blessed Unrest" is your masterpiece. I've lost count of how many times I've played it. Have played this song and "I Choose You" the most, but it's ALL great. Hope I get to see you live one day.
This should so be the song for the end credits of Divergent.
EPITOME OF A MUSICIAN
Pure talent. Rare set of skills we hardly see now a days. More power and many more success to you Sara!!
Seriously .... Can it get much better than this? Close you're eyes and just let them ear's devour the sweet music
This is so good. Ten times better than the recorded version.
she is absolutely amazing
Man she's awesome this is the true voice...unlike some people you know who's
*sighs* This is such a bright, uplifting song... yet it brings tears to my eyes every time.
Why isn't she famous America?
she is, she had her major breakthrough with 'Love Song' but dropped off the radar a little after that
HELLO......This album was a nominee for album of the year. Seems you're the one who's a little late to the party
Currently, she's No.1 in Australia.
There is no US market for 'soft rock' female artists.
However, this kind of music does well in other Western countries.
prolly because she doesn't show her boobs or ass, unlike maintream "artists."
She appeals only to fatties that's why !
Pure artist. Love this. So hard to find this kind of music in this 'lady-gaga' era. Really really inspiring song, the message is to be brave to say the truth in your life. In the otherside, lady gaga sing about sex dream.
Her voice is amazing.
This song has a great message too.
Her live performance is amazing. Love this song and her voice. She's so pretty
Someone that actually sounds better live with just a piano no distractions. Great singer songwriter.
when things are going the worst in my life and I want to toss in the towel and wonder if all this work to be healthy is really worth it......I listen to this song. BRAVE. I'm so grateful for my recovery. I have another high/drunk in me. Not sure I can recover again. I was at death's door when I came to the program and I was saved for a reason......
It is worth it!! Your doing great, and being BRAVE!!! I'm proud of you xxx😘😘💗💗
Awhhh... The lyrics... Her voice... I'm pouting the whole song...
I wish more musicians would be able to sing like this live, she gots some mad pipes on her a true artist
I have to say this song makes me feel brave for the first TIME………..
Sara makes be feel that i don't care if people laugh at me.Im beautiful the way i am.NO MAKEUP just pretty the way I AM.
NOW THIS IS TRUE TALENT AND NOT SOME ASS-ABOUT SONG. I ADORE THIS TALENTED WOMAN. RESPECT SARA.

I searched my entire youtube history to check for this song but in vain. Then by a basic search in youtube for female artists singing on piano, I finally found this song
man that high brave in the chorus is just amazing. I love that singers like this are so popular

This is mind-blowing! What a talented woman!
She is easily one of the best musicians out there. Way too underrated. She can sing circles around most performers. I'd love a cd that's live or just her and the piano.
Love this! Such a great talent and a very powerful message. Sara is a beautiful person inside and out and a great role model for young people today.
Omg she sounds amazing even live.
I wish there was a video of Satellite Call like this
She seriously sounds better in person.... that IS SO FREAKING RARE!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!!!
But Kate Perry made a hit based on this one (Roar), the producer Dr. Luke has pretty impressive record of taking "inspiration" from different songs.
