South african were athelete on fielding time and not cricketer. Rhodes/gibbs/ bacher. Jonty used to save runs while fielding which was more then his batting time.

Mongia played some very good innings in odis and he bowls part-time. You are wrong Pravee Amre did got selected against England in the home series after this SA tour He played in all 3 tests at No 6 His last outing was Hero Cup in Nov 93 after which he was dropped Amre, Manoj Prabhakar & Kiran More were those players who had limited capabilities But were full some in their efforts Unfortunately Prabhakar later on went the wrong way

But their batting unit was more professional one. Kirsten, cullinan, cronje, Rhodes , Kallis , Pollock, Macmillan, Hudson all were star on their own day and would certainly chip in with 20-30 runs on bad day also to make team total beyond oppositions reach!
