Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 - Introduction
    1. 0:45 {Theology Books for Teens/College Age} My 17 yr. old son is into theology. Do you have any theology books you’d recommend for teens/college students that aren’t weighty reads, but offer good, biblical answers to Christian questions? Something that will interest a teenager without getting lost into a huge textbook.
    2. 4:24 {Does God Bless in Material Ways?} Does God still bless us in material ways, or was that just for the old covenant and now He solely blesses us in spiritual ways?
    3. 9:05 {How Does God Speak to Us?} How does God communicate to us outside of the Bible? Does He speak through mediums like words, numbers, coincidences, etc.?
    4. 12:38 {About Separation from Bishops} How is separation from all bishops okay when all “early church fathers” (especially Cyprian & Ignatius) taught that separation from your bishop can call into question your salvation (Cyprian Epistle 26, Ignatius Phil.)?
    5. 18:39 {About Revelation/Great Tribulation} Do you have any idea why Revelation 7: 14 in the NLT says these are the ones who died, but other translations say they came out of the Great Tribulation?
    6. 21:40 {How to Initiate Gospel Conversations} How do I start conversations about Jesus with strangers/acquaintances?
    7. 23:25 {About the Extent of the Atonement} Do the two different stances on the extent of the atonement (unlimited and definite) ultimately represent two different gospels? This is a fear of mine.
    8. 27:09 {Does Prayer Have a Required Formula?} I talk to God in my head and pray during the day, but my thoughts drift and sometimes I realize I never said “amen.” I know that He’s listening, but if it’s not formatted like a prayer, does it still count?
    9. 29:00 {How to Find Counsel in Scripture} How do I go about searching the Scriptures to help me find a solution or to come to a decision in an area of my life?
    10. 32:16 {About being Born of God/of the Spirit} Prior to Pentecost, was anyone “born of God/Spirit” as the Spirit hadn’t been given yet (John 1: 13; 3:1-7; 7: 39)? Can this discredit regeneration preceding faith/total inability?
    11. 34:22 {Was Historical Proof of Biblical Events Just Made Up?} I heard that the historians’ consensus for the Patriarchs, the Exodus, and the Conquest of Canaan was that they didn’t happen but were made up later. Any input on this?
    12. 36:42 {If we Confess our Doubts, Are We Still Saved?} I was having doubts about the atonement, and I was questioning if I really believed it. I had thoughts about me not believing. Am I still saved if confessed those and do believe now?
    13. 43:08 {Was Jesus Rich? & How to Challenge False Claims} Someone told me “Jesus was rich and that was how He was able to feed the 5,000 and their families.” I know that’s wrong, but where do they find these theories and how do I help them see that’s not true?
    14. 46:33 {How to Share a Summary of the Gospel} Do you have a simple way to share the Gospel? How can we know what to say to be obedient and share the Gospel effectively without missing any of the essentials?
    15. 48:42 {Thinking Biblically about Covid Restrictions} My province has new Covid mandates that my pastor is implementing. Reduced attendance, vaccine passport checks, and masks even while singing. I think this is unbiblical. What can I do?
    16. 52:53 {Advice for Finding a Godly Spouse / Our Desires} I’m 23 yrs. old. 6 yrs. ago, my attraction to women just disappeared. This messed with my head a lot, and also, because of physical problems, I can’t approach girls in order to find a wife. Please, can you advise me?
    17. 54:29 {Was David’s Son Punished for David’s Sin?} In a past video, it sounded like Mike said David's child dying was "collateral damage.” How is that not punishment for David's sins?
    18. 59:32 {Did God’s Promise Change?} Why did the promise for honoring your parents change from Old Testament (Exodus 20: 12 - “in the land I will give you”) vs. the New Testament (Ephesians 6:2 - “living long on the earth”)?
    19. 1:02:10 {Are Different Convictions = Subjective Truth?} How do we protect ourselves from post-modernist thinking such as "truth is subjective" when discussing matters of different convictions (ex: Christians disagreeing over matters such as cursing, etc.)?
    20. 1:06:02 {About Finding God’s Purpose/Will in our Lives} How do we know God's purpose for our lives, as in a career?

@Austin, the other day I was in the fast food line and the guy handing me my drinks had 777 tattooed on his arm. I said hey what does your 777 mean on your arm, he said "lucky." I smiled and said, did you know that the number 7 is God's number of perfection? He said, I never heard that , thanks! After he handed me all my stuff I gave him a gospel tract and invited him to find out more about God! He seemed thankful. That's an example, just look for ways to connect everyday things to God, it really helps to spark the conversation!

U.f.os and scince fiction .what does the bibke say..gary bates has a book on that "Alien Intrusion" theres a dvd.what does the bible say about reincarnatiin.? The more topics you know the easier it slios into conversation. There are lots of movies with multiverse concept. You can talj about that .in many of them they put uo debate about free will vs soverignty.without rven trying a tv show can help you launch into Conversation. Does God exist. If the church is taking active steps to Hinder your ability to worship corporately, fellowship with other believers and hear the gospel than that church is in the wrong. If those steps include enforcement of vaccine mandates from the government-then I would strongly consider finding a new church. A church that cares more about reaching the lost than following tyrannical governmental overreach.

I was born again outside the church. I was attempting suicide in my home and was strongly convicted. I became exceedingly fearful, worried of judgment when I die. I began to pray, because I was extremely close to death. I admitted to God that I knew I shouldn't take my life, and I asked Him to forgive me.
In that very moment something inside of me changed FOREVER! He healed me, saved me and delivered me! No preacher, no church, just me and the Lord❤.

Question 15: My old church split into 2 services: first service people wore masks and second service people didn't. Everyone was welcome and could go to whichever they felt comfortable, thus the issue was side-stepped, unity continued, and the church grew. When both services were rejoined into one no love was lost and everyone was happy to be together again.

For witnessing, my prayer to God is that God would prepare the person's heart and show His preparation to me by having the person ask a question about life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness.
For Covid, the comment we have is that "We do not have a patch on our shoulder (County code enforcement), nor a badge over my pocket (law enforcement). we can observe, but we do not enforce." My opinion (and I recognize that no one asked): we live in a society (the only one in our contemporary world founded on a creed: "We believ..."), that was founded on rights given by God. Those rights cannot be taken away without re-writing the Constitution and amendments). One of those rights is the freedom to assembly; another is the freedom of religion. Additionally, how is it OK to gather to protest, but not to worship? Hmmm?

I feel we should be able to get past the petty bulls&@ t and focus on the good stuff God gives us everyday. It seems like the devil and his minions have been magnifing mental health issues more and more. Anything to distract from joy and love ❤️. I’m just happy to be somewhat aware and would like to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Thank you again from the mountains in upstate NY. Lala

The last two years have really exposed the far right. "The Road to Character" is a great book. It's not a critique of Conservatism directly, but if you grew up in that world, you immediately see the difference.
When the Devil tempted Jesus to jump off the temple, he didn't do it. Yet the far right wants to wait until they get COVID to see if it doesn't kill them and reject the blessing of an amazing vaccine God has given us through science.

Q2: Blessings - many blessings come as consequences of godly living. Our problem as fallen people is that we too often focus on the blessings as signs of God's favour, so that we look for the blessing instead of the Giver ie. we seek for the consequences instead of the proper cause - obedience to God Himself.

I like your answer on prayer. I find formulas so awkward. I talk to Jesus like would talk to someone in the same room. My eyes are open, I don't use fancy words, and if I am alone I talk to God out loud. I talk to God about everything, even talking to God in the car about a movie I just watch, why I enjoyed it or did not enjoyed it. As I pray, certain scriptures may come to my mine and I will discuss about how relates to a situation. I will talk to God about my day at work and many times I will talk to God in my head while I am working.i have heard people say that prayer is the last thing they do when addressing a problem. It is the first thing I do is to pray. But it took me 50 years to get to this point.

So good is your answer about decision making. I struggled with this so much! God constantly reminds me that He has given me a brain to use and so as long I am sticking to the Word as best I can, and I pray and there are moments where I get a definite urging of the Spirit and it's confirmed and sometimes it's not. But God is good all the time and He cares for us, even the details. But He is not rigid and harsh waiting for me to make the wrong decision so I can be punished. Thanks Mike! God bless!

I hope this makes you smile. About use of words/language:
Years ago a group of my kindergarteners were trying to decide if the word “baby” is a “bad word”. Here is what they concluded:
If you call a person a baby who really is a baby, then that’s not bad.
If you call a big kid who is acting like a baby baby, that is kind of bad, but if you see a pretty teacher waking down the hall and you say, “Heeey, baby!”, then that’s really bad!

I think it's a real problem when Churches excommunicate the unvaxed from their services. Although I think the whole church connecting through zoom is not ideal, I still it's a better than that. Better zero attendance than discriminatory attendance.
What I would do is split the church into groups of 50, that can meet at home, in parks, town halls, classrooms you name it. This way everyone is included AND physical attendance is maintained.

    • @Yawnyaman

While I am vaccinated, I do think it would be utterly wrong for the church to refuse entrance to the non vaxxed. At the very least it would show wretched cowardice, the more so given that I am aware that some Christians genuinely believe that there are moral problems with the make up of some of the vaccines. More problematic yet is the sense of overt discrimination in straight denial of the instruction in James 2:1-3 and really James 2:8.

Another thing I like about the Mark 9 story is the decision of the father " I believe help my unbelief." He is literally saying if you want me to give you my faith here it is. Also, I am giving you my doubts as well. I believe God wants that. I believe God wants us to be totally honest with him. Our beliefs our doubts our failures our struggles. The end point I believe is The father came with whatever he had and laid it at Jesus feet. Something I had to do when I went through my own doubt period. The father came and stayed with Jesus even with his doubts he didn't do what Jairus was tempted to do in Luke 8:49-While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler's house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.”- It's tempting when everything looks hopeless to just leave Jesus and God and just quit. But if you stay with Jesus ( continue to believe, pray and seek him in his word, ask others to pray with and for you) he will help you out of that valley of doubt-Luke 8:50- But Jesus on hearing this answered him, “Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well.” Jairus doesn't say anything out loud like the father does in Mark 9 but he probably had some doubts along with that belief of his.

checking for v@xx!ns passport is wrong as it is divisive.
Regarding question 15 around the 49 minutes mark.
What about James 2 when we are told not to play favoritism between rich and poor etc... I beleive there is a time to obey the government but we must obey God first.
And when we gather as a Christian family, we should not make any difference between people whether they are v@xxed or not v@xxed, rich or poor etc... as this is pure discrimination and has no place in the body of Christ as everyone is to be welcome.
Ps: I can not get the v@xxed for medical reason, I choose not to get the v@xxed for religious reasons and a conviction in my concience with the Lord.
So what now? Should I and other like me be discriminated against because we are not v@xxed?
I just lost my job of 9 and 1/2 years because I can not and choose not to be v@xxed... but we know things will get worse before the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
We must remain standing firm and faithfull in our faith no matter what as even within the church worldwide some are working for the ennemy.
And some are going along without questioning and researching the truth as we are told to do so by God.
I am not divisive, the governments who is controlled by the ennemy and brought in those draconian mandates are the one bringing division...and many churches are allowing the ennemy to divise the body of Christ.
Why don't those pastors encourage home group if we can not have v@xxed and unv@xxed together?

Ask yourselves why the same people pushing all the evils you see in society today (like the sexualization of children) are all extremely PRO these measures we have been under for the past two years....
Think of anything, really. Who's pushing drugs in rural communities? Who's pushing the sexualization of the masses, particularly children? Who's pushing anti Christian messages? Who's persecuting Christians? Etc. These same people are pushing for more and more of what we've been experiencing the last two years.

Of course not, because it goes against the authority and commands of God, marriage being between a man and a women with the exclusion of all others.
If the gov. tomorrow tells us we can not gather anymore as people of God, will we do it?....of course not because God tells us not to forsake the assembly of the saints.
God is telling us to look after the temple of the Holy Spirit (our body), now the government is telling us to put a substance that is an experimental drug, with armfull ingredients that have not been tested long enough, the big pharma do not tell us all the ingredients in it, they do not want people to know for an other 55 years, they have immunity against liability, they have a history of lying and some of their drugs previously authorised by the FDA have been removed from the market due to dangerous adverse side affect and death.

Question 19: Evaluating, what may appear to be a subjective matter, is all about motive. The inquirer mentioned 'cursing' as an example. I find it a little strange that Mike, in his response to the cussing example, never approaches the motive of the behavior. "why do you feel/think you need to cuss?". That's the question that needs to be asked, not "is this particular word a cuss word or not?" It's the heart attitude that is the important thing. "is this right or wrong?" will always be clearly revealed when the motive is unpacked. We are sinful beings and we, at our fleshly core, want the world to revolve around us. We want things to 'go our way'. We want it to 'be about me'. Think about it .... if we asked "what's my motive here? what's my heart attitude?" and let God reveal that to us before every 'action' we did, we would most likely make Godly (other centered) choices more often.

Regarding swearing, I think there are 2 Biblical issues: heart attitude and testimony.
Heart attitude: If you speak words in anger, ALL of those words are foul language that you should hold and not speak, no matter how innocuous the terms are, and there are words that are culturally recognized as conveying internal sin such as anger or lust.
Testimony: if you grew up with, or pre-salvation had a habit of saying, traditionally foul words, they may slip out with no reflection of sin in your heart, but if you recognize that they damage your testimony with unbelievers or within the Church, it then becomes an issue you should pray for strength to change, and this can become sin if you ignore this effect.
Arbitrarily categorizing certain words as "swear words" isn't the wisest approach because: (1) Those same syllables or sounds may mean very different things in other languages. A Chinese person isn't swearing if they say something that sounds like a swear word in English, and (2) Word meanings change over time. In Medieval English the "s-word" was just the standard word to refer to that substance that comes out. A farmer might ask a merchant for "a bag of s**t" to fertilize his fields. After the Norman Invasion and the incorporation of French terms, it slowly became a foul term for bad things or situations. No one was sinning by saying that word before that time.

I can drive 120 off a cliff with the van full of my kids, but people don't react saying God why did you punish the children for the sins of their father? We can be terrible stewards with what we've been given. The death of my children would have been on me.
David was given a kingdom of God's people to steward. Then commited adultery followed by murder to try to cover it up. The death of his son is on him. David himself said one day he would go to him but his son cannot go to him (child want punished, and was with God in heaven).

In fact the patriarchs worshipped El the supreme deity of the canaanite pantheon of God's of which Yahweh was just one of many the Biblical authors believed to be real. There is a series of lectures on TH-cam by Dr. Christine Hayes of Yale University that explains how the OT myths began. Lecture 4 is where she starts discussing Genesis.

@@paulallen7962 Hi Paul, I’d counter that there are many instances (understatement) that show how God has spoken through His word. I’d recommend Mike’s series “Evidence for the Bible.”

@@paulallen7962 Hi Paul. There are many but Psalm 22 & Isaiah 52/53 really resonate with me.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Seek with an open heart willing to find a relationship with God. When I wasn’t a follower of Christ the Bible didn’t impact me either. But I humbled myself and sought to find truth. I hope you do the same.
Have a great day and Merry Christmas!

Praise the LORD for your stance on not dividing over covid stuff. I wish more would be like that.
I personally think that churches need to just do what their leadership can agree upon doing. I realize that is very difficult but I hope the Lord will give them peace about their decisions if they humble themselves before Him.
I think that churches that require passports will play an important role for people who have been isolating for the last year and a half because they are so afraid of covid, either irrationally or legitimately (they or their loved ones are immunocompromised.) Imagine being parents of a child going through chemo during covid. They probably see no one. If they go back to church because the church is following precautions to prevent covid spread, then that's amazing!
I also think unvaxxed people need community as well. If there are churches who feel the right thing is to let everyone in, then they will be serving a different population and purpose(until they are shut down...)
Perhaps churches that do check passports can help unvaxxed members form home churches and they can watch the service online... Tough situation for sure.

Immune compromised people are separated from the public because of all viruses and bacteria, not just covid. When my father had leukemia he had to be extremely careful about being around people. It doesn't matter if people are vaccinated for covid. They can still die from a cold, flu, staff infection, strep infection etc.. Anything can kill. Please understand even if everyone in the world was vaccinated , immune compromised people still can't just live free. The threat of a deadly infection will always exist as long as any viruses and bacteria exist. When my dad had leukemia it wasn't like a vaccinated person could hug him and an unvaccinated person could not. Noone should! Because we all have a risk of transmitting a virus. The reason I am mentioning this is because I hate that the unvaccinated are looked at as "unclean " when the reality is we all are "unclean " in some way.

@@starlight-xt7po all good points. Also vaccinated people are still getting and spreading covid 🤷‍♀️
My argument is less about covid and vaccines, and more about christians being understanding of all points of view on the topic of mandates, and not dividing over things we shouldn't. My personal conviction is I don't think it's right to deny some people from coming to church, but I think if all leaders do what they feel convicted to do, they will serve different purposes to different communities and hopefully, in their own ways bring more people to Christ.

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32
Follow the example of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Just as He has been so gracious and kind to us, continually blessing us, let us be kind and compassionate to others. Let us also be quick to forgive. Though we earned judgement because of our sins, Jesus took our place on the cross so that we may be forgiven. Forgiveness begins with love, so let's live with more love for others, for ourselves, and for God. And be quick to forgive. Hopefully this inspired and encouraged you today. God bless you!

I do kind of wonder if the 17 y/o in the 1st question is actually adverse to 'weighty reading' or if this is the mother's assumption. As someone who started reading apologetics as a teen I'd like to add to this don't underestimate your son in terms of his reading level. Maybe I'm mistaking this and he really would prefer a lighter read, just think we need to not coddle young minds.

Q13: A related question that popped up for me, what happened to the gold that Mary and Joseph received at Jesus's birth? Why did they buy poverty pigeons when they recently received such riches? Any clue in the texts?

    • @thereseservais924
      @thereseservais924 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Just one element : the wise men coming with gold, myrrhe and encense came much later then the presentation of Jesus in the Temple. What happened to those presents is not to find in the Scripture. Only to think : after the wise men had left, Josepf and Mary had to flee to Egypt with little Jesus and stay there for a long time. They had to survive there too. Later in Nazareth Joseph worked as a carpenter. He and Mary had several children to feed. According to the context Joseph had died when Jesus began to preach. Mary went on as a widow. When Jesus as a rabbi came to Nazareth to preach in the synagoge, he was "welcome" as "the son of Mary" (I think that if Joseph had been alive, they would have said "son of Joseph"). All those years were hard times under Roman occupation. I imagine where the gold could have gone... No theological answer here. Just my thoughts about it... Blessings.
