I haven't even finished the video yet, but I wanted to commend you guys on your attitude to nature. As an outdoorsman myself, I absolutely hate when I see garbage in waterways and woods. I always have at least a grocery bag in my kit to clean up where others messed up, and take more with me than I brought. Thank you guys for understanding that to be a true outdoorsman, you have to first be a custodian to nature itself.

Hey Jr. & Sr, I did a google lens on a screen capture of that plant, its called a common cockleburr. It will eventually make the burrs that catch on stuff. The spikes are very sharp for sure. Wouldn't wanna hike through it once they dry out. 😖
After living in Vegas for 35 yrs, most of us old timers are suprised they haven't found more bodies. Mob time (70's-80's) was a heyday of missing people.
I'll bet the powers that be won't slow the outflow enough to keep that meager amount of rise. 10 yrs drought would take 10+ years of that kind of rainfall to "refill" Lake Mead. Doesn't seem in the cards, but nice to see for fishermen and animals to help out their lives.
Have you guys ever gone out to the park in Boulder City that gets all the big horn sheep in it grazing on the grass? Its usually during the rut. Crazy to watch those big boys run and crack their heads together and hear how loud it is. Maybe check it out during the rut next spring.
You guys have a sub for life with me. Your honesty, attention to detail and good hearts 💕 are great to see and hear.
BTW, an ig poster showed your infamous standing boat pic and said: "Obviously staged" as the caption. I read him the riot act, told him the Truth of it, how everyone jumped on your discovery for themselves and to give credit where credit was due- Sin City Outdoors on yt!!!! Lol. Lots of others told the dude it wasn't staged and they had seen it on yt. 👍🏻
Stay safe and blessed in all you do. 🙏 Big props from AZ, Valley of The Sun 🌞

Yeah. That has been the rule for decades but, sadly, it only takes a few people to mess things up.
In the decades I've been wilderness camping, I've only seen a few people who didn't respect the wilderness. I'd estimate roughly 6% of campers don't respect wilderness enough to pack out their trash (I'm not going to bore you with how I got to that number unless someone really wants it). Sadly, that 6% of campers leave enough trash behind so the 94% of other campers find trash literally every time they enter wilderness areas. It's sad that my son, who grew up wilderness camping with me, can't experience the truly untouched wilderness I saw growing up with my father wilderness camping.

Old wood boat, the green thing at 14:55 is called a "sea cock" which is a valve in the bottom of the boat where the engine can draw in cooling water. Can also be used for other systems in a boat such as A/C intake or even a toilet discharge. Judging by the size of this boat it was probably a runabout or a ski boat with an inboard engine and this was the engine cooling water intake.

Thank you Sin City Outdoors friends for showing us and such. Water level rises are a good thing, even for the short term. It rained here in eastern Massachusetts heavily the day before too. Flooding happened in places as the ground was dry. Water seemed to have helped with the plants and grass here. In only two days the grass seems greener! I joked with a friend that the grass was actually singing praise because of the rain!

Really appreciate your respect for nature and not leaving trash behind, especially coming from the young man (not sure of your age). In my area, teens go drinking near the river and once I brought my dog to the shore to have some fun and he cut his paw really badly on a broken beer bottle (requiring a costly visit to the vet). Many just don't understand the consequences of their irresponsible behavior.

That soil will be very good to grow a garden in...lots of nutrients in it. Back in the early 1980's in southern Arizona, I built a raised garden, as the caliche dirt there was hard as cement. Summers here in Arizona always very hot, so if you want a garden, you had to use a lot of old hay to cover your garden to protect against the hot summer wind. I had a dump truck bring me a large load of river dirt for my raised garden...was best garden ever had. So hope you do well there with your garden. Cheers from the USA. My first five years of my life, 1950 to 1955, my dad was stationed at Camp Bedford, east of London. He was in Army twenty years. I did 22 years myself. Really baffled by the weather y'all are getting over there, as it always rains there and your whole country is very green and beautiful. Hope your weather goes back to normal for you Brits.

It's actually very good here for certain plants, fruit especially. I've never seen the fruit trees/brambles so loaded down. Grasses/wheat etc are struggling though, and barley. I definitely agree about the father and son relationship. My dad just died, and I’m sorry to say that so far, I don’t miss him. He was not part of my life for the last several decades, even though he lived right down the street and I would try everything to get him to do something. I have five siblings, and he would jump and do something with them any time they asked. It’s one of life’s mysteries I’ll probably never know the answer to. But as an Honorably Retired Police Officer in California, your relationship is something we (cops) just don’t see too often. When we do, man I tell ya, it’s like Christmas for us! All we do every day is respond to someone’s worst day of their life, and we get it--we understand. But try doing that every day, 4 days a week, for years on end. We’re only human, and can’t help but get numb to it all. But if I was still working and you happened too live in the City that I worked in, I would absolutely take you and whoever else wanted to go, to lunch. We have 3 “holes in the wall” that serve the best food! One is BBQ hamburgers, tri-tip, and other stuff, with homemade peach cobbler for dessert, another is the best Mexican food--authentic--that I’ve ever had, and the third is Vietnamese Pho and other stuff that I never would have tried if it wasn’t for a coworker bugging me for weeks to come try it. I’m glad I did--great stuff! He even took a Vietnamese language class so that he could speak basic Vietnamese words to order in the proper language! I said wow dude, you’re hardcore! 🤣 Keep having fun guys, and stay safe!

Imagine a funnel that's 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide at the top. Fill it with the water and put it out in the sun. Everyday one bucket evaporates. You barely notice it first.
But once it's evaporated down to 3 ft you really start to notice it and it gets faster because one bucket means a lot more to what's left.
Once it's down to two feet it's going to take only a couple days to drop one more foot.
And when you're down to one foot left, throwing one bucket back in makes a big difference. But you are a long way from refilling that funnel.

Since the ground slopes upward and away from the original river channel, each water-level rise of one foot at the surface of Lake Mead represents many more cubic feet of water than the previous foot of water-level rise. This is illustrated by the long gradual slope of the area with the high grass. The water has to cover all of this as well as the current pool to get the whole lake up a foot deeper.

Living on the East coast, I am familiar with occasional flooding. Generally, you can see it building up in the area and if you are paying attention, you have time to move to higher ground for safety. I have heard over and over again about the flash floods in the southwest and how dangerous they are. I dismissed that danger based on my own experience. After seeing the video you and a few other TH-cam content creators have posted of this phenomenon, I have a newfound respect for the dangers.

    • @TrueXyrael
      @TrueXyrael 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Flash floods in a desert area are quite dangerous because the known pathways of water are usually unknown to people, because the land itself has no absorbtion properties unlike rich soil, and also because people don't know where the water will eventually end up. On the Coasts, it will probably reach the sea or a river, and you can predict how it will get there, so you have flood basins and bypasses and levees. In the desert, it might reach a lake. It might just flood the local lowland area (usually southeastern Las Vegas). We have things called exotic streams, streams which dry up before reaching any lake. Because of that, they haven't dug into the ground well enough to make a well-determined route to the lowland, so it can go anywhere.

    • @onedayatatime007

The front of a flash flood is composed of mud, stones, branches, logs, and anything else movable. It's a semi-solid mass that can crush a house, move an 18 wheeler, and tear any living thing to pieces. It's why people disappear forever, if caught in them.

@@XploreAz you can not build houses at the base of mountains with zero drainage around it for one. Many desert areas do this in california to fit in extra homes. Those homes end up needing extra insurance and many end up getting washed away regardless.

Good to see some decent rain although it's a mixed blessing having it fall so quickly meaning it just strips a lot of soil away & causes a lot of other problems. Thanks for the latest update.

I love your content so much, that I perused my wife to make a mini holiday to a lake just a few hours drive from home.
So I bought fishing gear, rented a cabin just near the lake and also rented a small boat with an electric engine. I was aiming for pike and perch (that’s the main fish in that lake). For reference, I live in Sweden.
So yeah, after 2 hours fishing I cough a 3cm perch 😂. I’m apparently not a great fisherman 🤷‍♂️. Another 2 hours went by and the sun was dawning, so we went back to shore.
Back at land I made a fire on the beach to barbecue a steak I bought just in case we didn’t catch any fish😁.
Lovely days outdoors inspired by you guys. Thanx❤️

Great video as always guys. My son andI look forward to the new videos and I was particularly curious to see what updates you had for us given all the rain you have gotten. Thanks for keeping us informed and entertained. Sr I am with you on the glass bottle thing. When I was a kid I was at a local swimming hole and stepped on a broken beer bottle and cut my door badly. Needed quite a few stitches. Ever since that incident I hate to see junk like that around the water no matter where I am. Keep up the great work guys!!

it also takes water to re-hydrate the soil in order for the lake to be able to retain the water. A lot of water that "disappeared" just went into the ground. Only man-made ponds that are lined with clay retain their water. In all other instances that water also seeps into the ground into underground aquifers.

I read that it raised the lake level about 18" after the big storms, but it won't take long for that to disappear. Monsoon storms help, but the real help would be several winters of massive snowfall in Colorado (which is significantly more water than isolate monsoon storms). However, it's likely that the climate has changed to be drier in the west so we can't count on that to happen.

    • @ilenastarbreeze4978
      @ilenastarbreeze4978 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

definately, i am sometimes surprised by how people dont understand how it works, like, filled the lake up? that amount of water in a week would destroy everything, and would be like feet an hour , but constant supply over the year is far better then 1 big storm, big storms damage things , soil and all that, where as you say, snowpack is what you need to have sustained water.

    • @2010joen

@@ilenastarbreeze4978 I agree. There is a reason the Colorado Ricer is called the COLORADO river. Most of the water going down the river to the lakes comes from the rains and snow pack in Colorado. While the flash floods in Nevada and Arizona may add to it, Colorado is still the primary source of the water in the lakes.

People don't realize how dangerous flash floods are and that in the desert, it doesn't have to be raining above you to catch you in a flash flood.
Lake Mead is almost 250 Square miles so for the lake to go up that much, it means almost a square mile of water went into the lake.
