@@vasstagoarchipelagus5954 well for me this song makes me think of my father. He was never there and when he was he emotionally and verbally abusive. I am in the process of healing and recovering from the depression he caused and I don't care if he lives or dies as long as he does it as far away as possible from me. It may sound harsh but how can anyone expect me to miss a man I never really knew? He didn't even try to be a good father

@@d.r429 Although Not many will understand, they have not been in our shoes. I always get “she’s your mother no matter what” I had to finally cut her off. She see’s nothing wrong with her abuse in which I endured for years. The person who was suppose to love & care for you. I’m a damaged person and because of what she put me through, some stuff still affects me today. I feel mixed emotions. You do what’s best for you because at the end of the day, you only have yourself. People will turn on you and hurt you. Work on becoming a better person & healing. Look for answers which means facing the past. Sometimes you won’t find answers nor understand why but know you are worth so much. Don’t ever feel like you ain’t.

@@vasstagoarchipelagus5954 It means, after 28 years of marriage and almost losing my mind when he left me I realized one day I didn't owe him anything. He only took and I only gave and after you give all you can, it's not possible to care anymore. Don't know if he's dead or alive 15 year later, and it's the most free I have felt since I was 25. I was not the selfish one, and now my life is finally my own.

This song hurts. A lot. Not because I was the victim, but because I was the abuser. After a lot of help I grew a conscious, and realized the damage I did. And seeing the shit I caused? How I broke her like I did? I have permanent regret issues now. I don't think I'll ever really atone for that. This.... This song is just a living reminder of what I did. And that's why I listen to it. It's helping me nail into my brain what I did to someone. And making sure I never make that mistake again. It's been around 4 or 5 years since I tried to amend what I did, and I'm no closer. But this song is a perfect encapsulation of what it's like to be a victim to my limited understanding, from talking to her to try to fix this. And it's amazing to hear, while still... Painful.
Feel free to harass, I probably deserve it. I fucked up bad.

In 2011, my high school nest friend asked me what song I wanted to listen to. I said, "I don't care" sarcastically, so she typed it into TH-cam and found this song. Since that day, it has been one of my favorite songs. 13 years later, I still remember exactly where we were sitting and exactly how I reacted when we found a song called "I don't care." This song makes me both happy and sad. Happy because I remember the times with my best friend and sad because I relate to this song now that I'm older and because I lost her as a friend 2 years later when I was certain we would be life long sisters.

I really love this video. It's so beautiful. The house acts as a carefully nuanced metaphor for the mental/emotional space of the narrator. The cramped room in which the band plays and in which Adam sings, symbolizing how the narrator feels trapped and restricted in his relationship with a woman who completely neglects and ignores his needs while she takes what she wants from him, and while he does his best to do what's right and make things work. ("I try to make you see my side, always try to stay in line. Your eyes see right through [...] I've got no room when it's like this.") The bars, the birdcage, and other cages augment the emotional prison. In fact, the entire home is a dollhouse, full of whimsically dressed dolls, in the domain of a girl who does what she wants with her dolls, placing them here and there in the hallway, but who is growing up and will soon be leaving her dolls behind as she tires of them. There's the room in which temptations are rejected and emotions are denied, adjacent to the dining room in which the characters, in their weakness, feast and finally give in to their passions and desires. When you're in denial, but you actually care very much. The darkness, of course, acts as a metaphor of despair.

100% correct lyrics (single edit of the song):
I try to make it through my life
    In my way, there’s you
I try to make it through these lies
    And that’s all I do
    Just don’t deny it
    Don’t try to fight this
    And deal with it
And that’s just part of it
    [Chorus:]
If you were dead or still alive
    I don’t care, I don’t care
Just go and leave this all behind
    ‘Cause I swear (I swear), I don’t care
I try to make you see my side
I always try to stay in line
But your eyes see right through
    That’s all they do
I’m getting buried in this place
I got no room, you’re in my face
    Don’t say anything,
    Just go away
    [Chorus]
    (Not changing everything)
(‘Cause you won’t be there for me)
    (Not changing everything)
(‘Cause you won’t be there for me)
    [Chorus:]
If you were dead or still alive
    I don’t care, I don’t care
Just go and leave this all behind
    ‘Cause I swear (I swear), I don’t care
