You're so accurate with the german paper work. It's interesting how non germans see that because I totaly agree with you. For a lot of people (not exclusive to recruitment) papers and certificates are some kind of holy grale. If you ask me I think that's archaic and gatekeeping. Valuing paper over skill is not the right way of doing it. Sorry to be so pessimistic but that's something a lot of companies (especially medium to big size) have to work on.

Thanks Annie! It's the first time I've put music under my video so it felt weird, but I think it does make it move a lot more.

Such a great video!! I really related to the soft skills section. Going to stand in front of the mirror and practice 'visible' enthusiasm for good measure!

This is the most detailed vlog I've come across about finding a tech job in Germany! Thank you so much for this! I'm an aspiring software developer and this made me more motivated to switch careers (I'm currently in Finance). I'm still learning thru self-taught and hoping that I will get there in Germany after 3-5years of working here in my home country, Philippines. Again, thank you so much!

Thanks Alex! I felt the music was needed in such a long video but I quite like it so maybe I'll keep them in future too 🤔

Hi! Thanks for sharing this! I've been working as a developer for more than 8 years, I'd like to move to Germany but I have no CS degree, I have a degree from a medical field. Do You think it is possible to get a job abroad? You mentioned that recruiters don't look good certificates from online courses, is it the general norm or maybe there are some exceptions, for example a nano degree of Udacity, to give an example.

Hi there! As I said, your chances are better with a certification from an actual institution or structured course, and then your chances are better still if you can speak German. Obviously the medical field is pretty highly respected, so I don't think you would be shut out from opportunities, but certainly it will be harder for you without either of those two things.

About red flags… I once received a take home project as a reply to my application without even a phone call as introduction or to get to know each other. The company was in south germany, and the closing of the email I got was “make Bavaria great again” 🤔😬🤨
Two red flags! They never heard of me again!
