I love how Ganke and Miles took the time to learn sign language so that they could talk to their friend. That is so sweet!
Miles already knew sign language before he met Hailey. He used sign language during their first ever interaction in miles Morales actually.
I think if they wanted the game to be a good representation of some of the problems people have to face, they wouldn’t just make everyone that talks to Hailey conveniently know sign language. There isn’t a single character in the story that has any sort of trouble communicating with her at all.
@@toneeyyhhWe never see Peter speak to her. The closest we get is the classroom in the opening where Peter is her teacher, and even then he has an ASL interpreter. I don’t think he knows ASL, and possibly not even MJ.

Hailey is by far one of my new favorite character, hands down. Thank you Insomniac for creating such a good character. Loved her quests on Miles Morales, so seeing her here made me very happy.

I’m fascinated by the section of the game where we play is Hailey. There’s no sound, and there’s no dialogue from our character because obviously she’s deaf. But there are bubbles over everyone’s heads to indicate their feelings that’s incredible and I love it.
It took me a few moments to realise what was happening. Mostly up to the point with our first human interactions

I'm not against by love interaction in the games, it does feel so nice seeing Miles and Hailey get along very well than he did with Phin. Hailey is the most kind girl. She may not talk verbally, only can communicate with sign language makes her unique and I'm loving how Miles enjoys her with opening interest. I'm getting the game next week. Those who have it, enjoy it because you deserve it

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the developers and how accurate Miles' face is right before Hailey kisses him? He looks so nervous and excited, the animation is top tier. They really nailed that look of anxious anticipation, just had to come here to say that. Love them together :)

That would mean Miles would have to be extremely attracted to her instead of Hailey since she’s younger. In the comic book Peter saves her and they were both bitten by the same spider which caused them to be EXTREMELY attracted to one another and let’s say they got busy. So if they’re going with her being the same age as Hailey and Miles and if she’s bitten by the same spider as miles there will be intimacy which I hope they don’t add if they make another spider man game. Keep Hailey and Miles together

This is great disability representation, and far better handled than Marvel's previous attempt with Ben Grimm and Alicia Masters.
For those who don't know. Ben Grimm is The Thing, and Alicia is blind. So there's always been this underlying implication that the only reason Alicia stays with Ben is because she can't see how horrifying he looks. Which is incredibly problematic.
This on the other hand is great. And I love how we even got a mission where we get to see Hailey's perspective of the world.
I love that her life doesn't completely revolve around Miles and that she's her own person

I love everything about their depiction of Hailey. Where do I even begin!?! Right off the rip they have an Interpreter in the classroom and all the community scenes that she's apart of. They could've made it easier on themselves and leaned into the "super lip-reader" stereotype, but THEY DIDN'T. They took the time to accurately depict the life of a Deaf person. And they took even a step further by having us play her. We get to experience her level of hearing and how she experiences communication with people who don't know sign. Many people who are born profoundly Deaf and are raised with sign language as their main language often express how they tend to think and dream in sign. Sign Language as a concept is a visual language and I love how they use this concept in their depiction of her experience. Showing that no matter how close she got him or how loud he spoke to her, Hailey couldn't understand the flower shop owner's speech or read his lips. You(as Hailey) have to figure out an outline of what's happening through context and body language and other forms of communications. This game is revolutionary and this aspect of the game will hopefully shows the people who believe that a Deaf main character can't exist in a game that is conversation heavy, that it is a concept that will work and people will love.

@@Berto206 Exactly and it could be such a unique concept if done right. I would love a "who done it" murder mystery game where the main character is Deaf. It would allow you to get information the normal way by signing, but it would require you to find creative ways to gain clues and information when it comes to interacting with people who don't know sign, or non-friendly antagonists. I really hope other game creators take what Insomniac did here and go further.

I've never been a fan of Miles/Gwen mostly for the same reasons I've never been a big Superman/Wonder Woman pairing as it seems that the main reason they're being paired together is because both are Spider-People around the same age like Clark and Diana are the strongest Man and Woman of the DCU.
Personally I'm more of a Gwen/Glory/MJ as the three have fantastic chemistry in Spider-Gwen and Miles and Hailey are just adorable.
I will give the Spider-Verse a bit of a pass as the series is making an effort to give these two a reason to be together beyond "Destiny" which is the basic reason in the comics but I just don't buy their chemistry as a romantic couple there. Personally I kinda hope that Miles and Gwen just remain friends and that Hailey becomes the MJ for Miles' Spider-Man.
You might as well as give up that hope, spiderverse is a love story between miles and gwen (this was stated by the creators), and they obviously have a thing for one another.
Gwen and miles might not be a great fit with their other alternate variants in other media, but spiderverse miles and spiderverse gwen do have legitimate romantic chemistry, and good writing with each other Imo. A friends ending would be a copt out imo.
Also considering that the next spiderverse flim is the last in the main spiderverse trilogy, there is no one else to set up as a legitimate (endgame) Li with miles other than gwen within the time of that movie without it proactively being determitenal to the plot.

I firmly believe that we need more black couples in gaming and animation. While diverse couples can be attractive, it becomes monotonous because we hardly see couples from the same ethnic background. I specifically want to see more African American couples represented. Miles and Hailey are the perfect couple in the game because they belong to the same ethnicity. I admire how Miles is not concerned about Hailey's appearance or her disability, but instead, he values her personality and her actions. This is the accurate depiction of a black male character. Static Shock also represented Virgil's relationship with Daisy in a similar manner, which was a smart move. Although Virgil dated Frieda in the comics, the creators changed his girlfriend to a black girl in the TV series, which was a positive move. I believe showcasing the love between two black characters is crucial. I still appreciate Miles and Gwen's relationship, but Miles and Hailey will always be my favorite couple in gaming.
