I disagree that Warm & Tender killed her pop career. In 1992 music was so different than the 1980's and this song was basically a hit and a bar hit. Being that same year Olivia's Dad passed from Cancer and the same day he died she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She took time off for that and over the last 23 years she had reinvented herself many times.
1988's Rumor flopped big time though it was fantastic.. but their was and is a huge ageism in pop with women.. not many women break this rule... she became a mother and focused on other things... at 44 she simply was not a hot topic anymore... but the decline started with Soulkiss. After Soulkiss which was a top20 hit she didn't not have a hit in the US and this was roughly 7 years before...
@dreasbn Agree. Olivia should have kept trying after Soul Kiss. Instead, she did a social awareness concept album The Rumor with a last-minute pop song added. Olivia had flopped albums in between successful ones. She could have done it because Sheena Easton came back strong with Lover In Me in 1988. Olivia is the bigger star. Olivia simply had given up commercial driven materials after Soul Kiss. Kylie Minogue is still doing it past her 50s.
