ive never realized that dealing with jewelry would need some physics and chemistry (the structure of the stone and refractive indices) I think it’s really fascinating. I love your channel and I can’t help but think that you’re so pretty and cute and everything beautiful 😞🩷
Can you talk about Jann Paul’s new Octagonn Nova cut? It’s a cross between a round brilliant and a Portuguese cut, so it’s much less busy than Portuguese but is still super sparkly with 137 facets and a floral/snowflake-like pattern in the center
It has nothing to do with the video but i've been thinking for a while and i just remembered who you look like: you probably dont know but there is a show called Teen Wolf and you look like if Scott and Kira had a child!!! I mean it as a compliment, they are both very good looking and you have a unsetling resemblance to both of them and what their descendant would look like, its so fun and mindblowing how your features are a mix of theirs ❤🤩
@@BijouLab Haha, You're welcome💛😊 it would be really fun if you did a short with the trend: "it all started when my mom met my dad, and they fell in love, and they had me!" With them 😆
It's actually a fantastic cut for stones that have comparatively little fire despite their indices of refraction being relatively high, such as spinel or tourmaline, but the thing about this cut being ideally suited to lighter colored stones is still very true, but not because you're aiming for more fire, but for the same reason that emeralds get faceted so often with deep pavilions: you want the depth of the cut to reinforce the color of the stone instead of relying too heavily on the internal reflections to do so. While this cut does work fairly well with stones like corundum, you want to avoid the more vibrant colorations as those have a peculiar light dispersion quality to them that leads to the cut not showing much flash and fire. Paler colors of corundum are perfectly viable, though, just make sure to adjust all of your angles in your stone faceting planning software for the relevant specifications of your gemstone so it can be optimized properly and you can avoid as many dead zones as possible.
How does diamond vs. moissanite compare in the Portuguese cut? Would the eye effect be more or less noticeable in moissanite? Thank you so much for the educational content, I've never seen this cut before but I love it
My pleasure! It can be noticeable in either; it’s less dependent on whether it’s diamond or moissanite in this case and more dependent on the cut quality.
Will extinction be black in other colored gemstones? Because I kind of think that if you have some kind of green gemstone and it appears dark green instead of black, it could look really cool but I don't know if that's how it works 😂
Forgive me, if this wasn't on your channel but there was a stone that was put into a setting upside down because the radiance was more brilliant. What kind of stone is that?

Thank you so much!🫶🫶😊 I’m a science nerd at heart so being able to combine science and beautiful jewelry in my work is such a dream come true!!
@@BijouLab couldn’t agree more science is truly fascinating! you’re most welcome 🩷
I personally really like the eye effect. It's like an optical illusion, and it's super mesmerizing.
It’s not an optical illusion- it’s actually light being unable to escape the refraction of the stone due to the angle of the cuts.
That's so lovely! I didn't know the name of this cut but I've always loved it. Thank you so much for teaching us❤
My pleasure!! I think it’s such an fascinating cut😊
As a Portuguese, I seriously love this cut 😂
I would also love to know more about starbrite cut sapphires. Another really interesting cut
The eye effect is kinda cool. And this cut looks so neat.
Agreed!
This is fascinating. Thank you for educating us.
Anytime!!😊🫶
Thank you for going over this cut as I remember I requested it not too long ago 💕☺️
Of course! 🥰
the blue ones look like when you're staring at the bottom of a clear lake
I never thought I would want a specific cuts on a rings but seeing this… Well we learned new things ourselves everyday didn’t we lol
Its so pretty, who cares if it looks smaller...less is more.
Haha just stating the facts, not saying it’s good or bad. It has a smaller but deeper shape 🤷♀️
I finally know the name of this cut ❤ I love the one that could brings up the kaleidoscope reflections

They’re my parents!! Just kidding, haha, I will have to look it up! Never heard of the show before. Thanks for the compliment😊

Huge fan of this cut! It is then prettiest of all I have seen!
i think an eyeball ring would be epic

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO UPON REQUEST!
Absolutely! I know I can’t get to them all but do try my best to do as many video requests as I can!!🫶😊
Thank you u beautiful gorgeous 😍 woman you actually teach about this stuff and not pretend like most 💯
My engagement ring has a portuguese cut blue green moissanite. I absolutely love it.
Extinction areas look so cool.
I have always wtant a flatter ring but i might meed to do this one. That black center is beautiful, evwn if some dont like it. And it looks so sparkly
Thank you.
Can you give tips on an old miners cut diamond? ❤
I saw an add with one then wanted one, thank you for info
My pleasure ☺️
Looks Amazing 🤩
that sunflower looks like my ring but even prettier!!!
Oh wow i never knew there is something called a Portugese cut ..thanks for educating 😅us
🥰😄 it’s my pleasure!

Extinction really shouldn't happen if everything is calculated correctly, it feels like that's just an oversight by who produces it
I need the eye looking diamond
Am i the only one who liked the look of the extinction thing. Well in that picture
Because it was symmetrical
Is there a “best gemstone” or optimal gemstone for this cut? (in terms of shine, color, durability, hardness etc.) 🤔
I wonder what it has to do with Portugal and why it is called a Portuguese cut.
Would love to see a diamond vs moissanite in the Portuguese cut. Can't find that anywhere
Portuguese cuts are so hot right now.
What would you call the halo type in the second photo, and would you have any concerns about setting the stones that way?
Please bless me with more knowledge on the cabochon cut 😭

Yes it’d be black in other gemstones
Would Aquamarine be a good stone in a Portuguese cut?
Is a gem’s karatage based on size or weight?
Forgive me, if this wasn't on your channel but there was a stone that was put into a setting upside down because the radiance was more brilliant.
What kind of stone is that?
Wasn’t my channel! 😊
I thought this cut was for stones that were less naturally sparkly
At least the eye looks cool lol
Im portuguese but Im not a big fan of that cut
Not a portugal cut 😂😂 🍌🍭🍭🍭
I don't like this cut. Looks cheap.
Just don't like them.
I'm not a fan of that cut. It's a bit....trashy looking to me.
I really don't like this cut!
