    Group ionization energy decrease -Reason ( no.of shells increases, atomic size increases) 2. Period ionization energy increases-reason ( shell remains same, nuclear charge increases)

    In Q 2
    Why did sir, fid not condider the 1s² 2s² to be the one with highest ionization enthalpy ? It is fully filled. Where else 1s²2s²2p³ is half filled. Anybody please explain.

    22:51 Sir I have a doubt that if I solve this question according to your logic then why we did not take (i) 1s²2s² part as the one with higher first ionization enthalpy but if I convert the electronic configuration of part (i) to an element name then it would be Be and the name of the element (iv) in part would be N. So, now I can say that N has higher first ionization enthalpy than Be.

    In groups ionization energy decreases because the atomic size of atom get increase and nuclear charge remains same so it's easy to remove the electron from its valence shell hence low ionization energy required 26:11

      Thank you for your question! You are correct that the ionization energy is inversely proportional to the size of the atom. However, the reason that the I^- ion has more ionization energy than the I atom is because the I^- ion has more electrons than the I atom. When there are more electrons, the atom is more stable and therefore has more ionization energy.

    Because as se to right in periods atomic size decrease and nuclear charge increase

    Sir I have a doubt..In F,N,O- N is half filled then N will have the greatest ionization then why the answer is F?

      Thank you for your question! The reason that Fluorine (F) has a higher ionization energy than Nitrogen (N) is because Fluorine has a smaller atomic radius. This means that the electrons in a Fluorine atom are closer to the nucleus than the electrons in a Nitrogen atom, and therefore require more energy to be removed.

    ionization enthalpy of Mg will be greater than Al due to the penetrating power of electron
    So if the ionization enthalpy of Mg = 737 kJ/mol and Si=786kJ/mol
    Then ionization enthalpy of Al must be 575kJ/mol

      That is because, fluorine has a smaller atomic radius that is it is closer to nucleus when compared to nitrogen so intuitively the ionization energy is greater
