Awesome, Larry. I learned how to all grain brew from your videos, but quickly upgraded to the Grainfather to save space in my apartment. I really love the system so far and I'm looking forward to seeing your take on it!
Received mine yesterday, got it cleaned, and performed a 6.5 gallon boil test with water today. I brew 10 gallon batches in my garage, but I needed a single vessel system, with a small footprint, to mess around with in the house when there's three feet of snow on the ground and temperatures hovering around zero outside. Looking forward to my first brew day and also your thoughts on this system. Cheers!
This is the system I started with and currently use. It is a great system and I am very happy with it. I also have the grainfather sparge water heater, it works great. Though, I do not use the grainfather website to input my recipe, I just print out my recipe from Beer Smith and make the manual adjustments myself throughout the brew day.
Oh! What a teaser! I hope will be soon online. I’m thinking about one, with the kids, activities, brewing outside in Québec (propane), brewing with a lot of material, it is very difficult to brew enough. What it can be very instructive is if you compare your old process, the new one and this one with the GrainFather and get your opinion on efficiency (mean efficience et efficacité in term of processing) .
Did your connect automatically come programmed to show Fahrenheit? Mine is on Celsius and I cant get it to switch. It shows correctly on the app, but not on the controller itself.
Excited to see the Brew day video! You should try your zombie dust clone recipe to see how the end result compares to your usual set up! Also - have you ever considered doing a product review for the Brewjacket Immersion Pro? There aren't many reviews on TH-cam for it yet. I'm considering options for a fermentation chamber that can both heat and cool, but I'd like avoid a big DIY project if possible.
question, you ever use the pico to sous vide? forget it grain farther is the superior souvide circilator, i do whole racks of ribs and 36 hour pull porks in my grain-farther
let me give you a tip, i'm in a condo so use smoke gun and slow cooker with a torch since you have bbq, take a pork shoulder smoke for 4 hours or so, low heat sousvide 24 hour, then green egg(or the copy cat you have) indirect heat 8 hours, then dutch oven an hour pulled with bbq sauce, you will be you fave pull pork hutt, allso . since im in a condo i sous vide, torch slow cook, pull add sauce then slow cook 30 min on high then cold smoke.
I found this system to be more cost effective than building my own electric brewing equipment. I took the same path as most: extract, cooler all-grain, 2 vessel keggle 10 gallon with pumps (all DIY) all over the span of 7 years. I then desired something smaller more compact and easier to dial in from a recipe development and final product perspective. It's the perfect system for someone who loves the process of brewing, wants the convenience of electric, but doesn't have the $3,000-5,000 to dump into equipment. I guess what I'm saying is, my beer is good and it's not because I'm cheating. And I don't use the connect controller. #oldschool
This is cheating. It's becoming to easy to brew with things like this. No offense, but IMO new home brewers don't learn jack about brewing with systems like this.
So people can only brew beer the way YOU brew beer, otherwise it's cheating? What if someone(turns out a lot of people) want an easy time brewing? You would deny them? I can only assume you cook over an open fire, because using the stove is cheating...right?
Cain - you are putting words in my comment. I never stated "the way I brew beer", If anyone wants to use this automated system, set it and forget it, be my guest. My only recommendation to new home brewers that are interested in using something like this is to make sure they know why, let's say an IPA should be mashed in at a specific temperature. It's called "Craft Beer", Automated systems like this are diluting the "Craft" part of it. Pre-programed recipes in an app, come on man. This is my opinion that I am entitled to, just saying learn, read, and understand to be a better Home Brewer.
With all due respect Larry, love the channel btw, this is cheating in ways to understand a specific brew house set up. I cannot recommend this to a new or novice home brewer. Don't even get me started on the $999.99 price point. You can make a brew house for way less then that, and learn more. My original comment was directed to new home brewers. You stated in previous vids that a lot of people just starting out watch your channel for home brewing techniques. My point for the cheating aspect is that this system is so efficient with items like temperature and water loss there is less room for mistakes and failures which can change the outcome of your beer for good or bad. Failing at something and trying again to get it right is the pathway to understanding. I feel every brew day I have, I "level up" in the home brewing game because I learn something new. This takes that away.
I have to drop my $.02 here. I have been brewing for a very long time started out with the cooler for a mash tun when I went to All Grain and a propane burner. So I have had my share of experience with all different types of systems. Up to and including the three vessel HERMS system that I brew on now. I would have to say I agree with your opinion if you are talking about a device like the picobrew, which in my opinion and what I've seen doesn't make very good beer anyway. That being said I think these devices are great for beginners, it does take some of the variables out of the ability to make a great finished product. Those variables a lot of times discourage people from continuing to brew. You can search Craigslist almost on a daily basis and find people that have given up on the hobby and are selling their equipment because they've had issues with different things that may possibly have been able to be avoided by using this type of device. I don't disagree with you on the price it may be a little bit out of most people's reach and slightly overpriced. I have not brewed on the grainfather but I have brewed on a similar system, the RoboBrew. To me anything that can get new Brewers into the Hobby and keep them in the hobby only makes it better for all of us that have been brewing for a while, giving us new options, new devices and more ability to brew great beer. There is still lots to learn on even these systems. Recipe formulation, mash temps, grain crush, water chemistry, mash in, mash out, stuck sparges, and a few others I'm sure I'm missing. Peace.. 👍🍻
Erik you are entitled to your opinion and I respect it, but don't you think that knowing how to heat your strike water to hit a target temperature for mashing in on your custom built brew system is more enjoyable then tapping a recipe on an app that is Bluetooth connected to your "All-in-one" brewing system? I also don't think it's an "elitist" mentality, it's more of a student / teacher knowledge sharing experience. Also name one sane person that is just starting out in a new hobby to spend $1000 on equipment for said hobby. Again my original comment was directed toward new home brewers that watch this channel. If you're just starting out, I wouldn't recommend buying this system if you are truly interested in learning the process of making craft beer. What I would recommend is to follow Larry's 101 videos he has on the channel, do some research, find a brewing mentor that can help get you started and bounce questions off of.
Tell them we will be purchasing three as a result of them supplying you the review one. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Cheers! I wish I could reach them. I lost my PoC there when they got bought.

While you have their attention, ask them why we can't get the 220 volt system. Only the 110 is available in the US. Thanks.

Looking forward to the demonstration. I've already known for a while that if I go electric the Grainfather is my first pick.
Very interesting device, looking forward to the brewday video! Cheers Larry!

Really looking forward to the brew day video of the gf!!
What do you do with your spent grain and how do you remove it?

Love the videos! Can't wait to see how this turns out!
Impressive kit....temp control is key.

Looking forward to it.. Too bad you're not closer. We could do a Grainfather vs Robobrew video. Cheers Larry! 🍻
Would be fun to see a brew off between the two systems. ☺️
I know which one my pocketbook likes more
Do a video on Brewkeg10
good video
