Fig trees sap can be used to coagulate cheeses. It is a vegetarian way to make cheese without rennet. Used in the Mediterranean for hundreds, thousands of years.

Simply amazing. Here on Hatteras Island we grow lots of fig trees & make preserves out of their fruit. Which of course often end up in fig cakes. Definitely want to try your fabulous recipe. Have subscribed to your page. Awesome!!!

Fig leaves are a popular fragrance note in perfumes as well

Have the fig tree, but the only ice cream machine is an old hand crank you make with salt and ice, not using it!! I read the article on the fig leaf ice cream looked interesting, glad it tasted good.

I wasn't aware that was something you can eat, does sound intriguing tho! Also I tend to make financiers with leftover eggwhites, they're so good~

My grandmother makes fig leaf syrup, usually to sweeten a lemonade. It is the most delicious and aromatic thing ever. I can only imagine how good it is as ice cream.

You can do this same process with lemon leaves. The result is tasty.

I've never heard of using fig leaves in cooking before. I bet you could use them in a few other pastries too (before they fall off for the winter!) :)
