Between Carnatic Music ( widely pursued and nurtured in Southern India ) & Hindustani Music ( widely pursued and nurtured in Northern India) , India may probably have a most ( if not *the* most ) structured system of music in the world. The beauty lies in the fact that, while the *rigid* structure demands a total dedication as a learner, and takes almost an entire lifetime to master; once a competence is acquired, the artist enters the hallowed world of improvisation, which is actually the holy grail of the whole journey. In this phase, there is a tussle between the conditioned brain - bearing fidelity to the *raaga,* and the restlesssly explorative brain - trying to push the frontiers of pure musical expression and interpretation. In this exalted stage, the artist effortlessly surfs the waves of melody with such virtuosity, that not only does she sip the nectar from the holy grail, but also manages to immerse the listener in a deluge of rapturous wonder. These Indian Classical music forms are in a way, a reflection of Indian philosophical thought, which seeks to unify the opposites. These two classical music forms of India.... exhilarate - only to edify; and excite ...... only to calm.
Wow... I'm lost for words.. I'm so impressed... How humans are able to sing like that... Such control of voice and breathing... I can't say how impressed I am... Mezmarizing

Carnatic music emanates from that part of the soul within which God resides and nothing I have heard/experienced/inspired by has ever been as beautiful, pure, perfect, honest, wholesome, truthful, blissful, inspirational, peaceful, compassionate and heavenly, except pure LOVE itself...which is what I feel when I listen to such perfection. It seems as if God himself listens in awe when these great, humble human beings deliver such gifts from their very essence & soul...uncontrollable tears of admiration, joy and hope stream with every note sung & played....no amount of words could express the overwhelming emotion I feel in the presence of such genius...and yet I do not understand a word...there is no need to....pure love, beauty and bliss needs no words. No amount of wealth, material possession or ego could ever be more valuable than the elation that this music brings. Thank you Lord and all carnatic artists for your inexplicable gift that allows you to share your soul and love with us through this ancient music...I am reborn every time I listen to a rendition and I have no doubt in my mind of the existence of God ...none whatsoever

Karnaatic music is understandably enjoyed by just a discerning select few who are able to relish its subtle but delectable nuances. In a parallel analogy one understands why bees are attracted to only the aromatic flowers.

Ilangay ( modern day Stri Lanka ) is an independent country. In the early A. D. centuries thousands of Thamizhargall ( = Tamils ) settled on the island , but didn't colonise it. But in the middle of the last century the Lankan govt confined them to a narrow enclave on the north east . They called it Eezham and fought for its independence. But their efforts were cruelly put down by the majority Sinhaala military.
