It is a pity I did not see this about a month ago. I just went and bought a year's subscription, because Langua allows a 30 day trial period. Also, thank you for explicitly showing how you do it. This I would really like to see more of. I have been learning Finnish for about 4 years now, and reading is coming along fine, but listening and speaking are on a limp. The cause is clear. Not only is the feedback specific and useful, but the conversations can be surprisingly "intelligent". @@Limemill thanks, I must look into that codeword thing. Looking at the price of Langua, I may stay with ChatGPT or Gemini for a while. ChatGPT isn't free either btw, there is a limit per day on length of chat. I did a trial chat with Langua last night talking about football in Castillian Spanish and it was pretty impressive. Only negative thing (apart from price) I would say is its data is out-of-date. it thought the current European champions were Italy (won Euro 2020) instead of Spain (won Euro 2024)!
Luca Junior here and I wanna say something that I noticed... Especially in German, but not only.. The stress (Betonung) or even melody isn't adequate for the situation. Specifically: "Das *klingt* ja gar nicht gut" -> Focusing on *klingt* would be used in a situation where i.e. an instrument sounds bad, in english: "Oh, that doesn't even *sound* good" Correct would've been "Das klingt ja *gar* nicht gut*, stressing the *gar*, which would turn this into the english equivalent: "Oh, that doesn't sound good *at all*." Sometimes the voice just sounds a bit robotic, but it really does often stress the wrong word, which can completely change the meaning of the sentence.
The intro video in English also has a few odd pronunciations. The accent is British, but occasionally there will a an American flapped intervocalic T or D (as in 'at all'). Interestingly, the fluent but non-native speaking human in the video has the same inconsistency. This is a very, very minor issue.
I don't really like talking with bots. I've tried two so far and I don't find it nearly as exciting as it is when I talk to real people. Plus, as far the experiences I had are concerned, bots give us some flawed feedback. I may try this one though. As it happened to Luca, it may surprise me in a positive way.
I don't really like talking with bots - Same here, but when I started talking to the Langua AI, I definitely changed my mind. Give it a try and let us know how it went!
One thing i tried, and would like to see you try, is start from a language you know nothing about. Not a word. I started speaking German and when he spoke, i answered, "I don't speak German." He continued in German, but through the translation button, i was able to read and he was happy to help. Dunno. Would love to see you try a language that you know the least and see what that experience is like.
I like the German AI's reaction to your experience with the comments 😆😆. I just got a discount offer for Talkpal and gave in and bought it. If only I watched this video first (does it do Asian languages? If it's basically a Chat GPT with an interface then it probably does all the languages)
Now you can use it for Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Similar to ChatGPT but language-specific and there are a lot of other options that I haven't even shown in the video (more videos about Langua and how to use it at all levels soon)
@@LucaLampariello Whilst those Asian languages are available in Settings, we note there that we haven't launched them yet as we're working on adding transliteration e.g. Furigana. This is quite tricky. We also need to find the best native voices for each language. Our aim is to launch them by the end of this month. We do already have some subscribers for these languages as they're happy to put up with a few missing pieces.
I had the same question and finally found the answer by scrolling down a lot on one of the pages... I appreciate your review, it looks like a great tool. It is a pity you did not show how the "beginner" level works. I am sure many people would be interested in seeing how the app behaves with someone who just started learning instead of conversing with someone who is fluent already. Just a thought.
Great AI, I use it myself to learn Italian. However, it is not perfect. The correct preposition in connection with islands would be "auf", not "in". "I met many Germans "auf" Sardinia." Only if the island is also a country in the political sense can you say "in": "Auf Malta" refers to the island, "in Malta" refers to the state. A Maltese can be born both "auf" and "in" Malta, depending on whether his nationality or his geographical origin is to be emphasized. Best regards from a German smartass ;-)
Hello Luca, I’m looking forward to using Langua but am waiting for the Japanese version of it .Any idea when Japanese will be added? Also I hope romaji will be part of that experience as it’s really difficult to follow if one doesn’t know Kanji like myself.
Me too! I can't wait to use Langua for Hungarian and for Japanese when the Japanese version comes out! To be honest, I am not sure when it will come out but by the looks of it, it should be a matter of months. So stay tuned!
Well damn, i signed up yesterday with a different discount. Although I'm already extremely frustrated with the app: it's buggy and deletes about half of the audio messgaes I record as soon as i push send. I also got multiple "no connection" messages even though my phone was connected without interruption. The messages only appeared for specific languages. Ridiculous. I won't go into some of the responses it gives, which apparently come from crowdsourcing twitter users 🙄
I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with the app! I personally haven't encountered any bugs so far, so I'm not entirely sure what might be causing the problem. That said, please do keep us updated on how things go as you continue using it. By the way, what language(s) are you currently learning?
@@LucaLampariello the deleting problems are constant with Brazilian portuguese. In latin American Spanish it doesn't happen, or very rarely, but the app constantly misinterpreted my messages (this is an app error because my spanish is near native). In French i kept getting the no connection message, but today it was much better. However, the responses seemed tuned to very preachy, politically correct comments about hot topics like colonialism. Pretty irritating. I asked it why it was so invested in politicizing the conversation if it's artificial intelligence and it changed the subject. That was pretty funny. I also made a lightly vulgar albur in Mexican Spanish (double entendre) and was scolded for being inappropriate. I'm not at all surprised that these guys are located in Oregon. Lest i sound like I'm just bashing the app, i like it when it works properly. If they fix the bugs I'll probably keep my membership. If not I'll provably cancel. It's just too frustrating having to rerecord messages dozens of times
@@Mateo-et3wl co-founder of Langua here. Sorry to hear you're having recording issues, I understand your frustration. We saw this issue in our beta version last month but haven't noticed it often since, so it's odd that you're getting it often. It's something of a mystery even to my co-founder, who is a senior engineer from Google. We suspect it is related to the transcription model/provider struggling with long recordings (typically 40 seconds or more). We will be adding two other models, available in chat settings. So I would recommend you use the website instead of the app until we push the next update next week. You can already switch AI model, but they are fairly similar. We use the two most intelligent models available, and the companies are carefully to avoid getting sued so the AI will be politically correct at times. We've tweaked them to express opinions like a human would, but it's impossible to get rid of the political correctness.
LUCA wow I'm in your academy- I ALREADY BOUGHT it, its' pretty cool, I've only used it twice but was so impressed I boought it. Guys it's CREEPY as it seems to understand what you said--and thus it's responses are LIFELIKE...it an ask bout hobbies and then followup questions...pretty cool. My only ISSUES AS OF now (Jan 9, 2025-in Italian anyway) they don't haVE a way to put accents in, without having your keyboard set up for that language, I don't- so I asked them why can't you have that built in-Babbel does- meaning if I need an accent over the letter e- give me that option in the choices of answers. I suspect they'll add it soon. Also What about HUMANS...PUTTING tutors out of biz, as we embrace AI yes for ease, we collectively put our fellow humans OUT OF WORK...in ALL FIELDS...then what do we do....this is an issue that we won't see for a few years as it worsens- we as a society need to decide what we want.
I have tried using AI to practice conversational skills but always end up getting annoyed with it. I have tried Univerbal and Jumpspeak but find the voices on these apps too robotic for my taste.
@@LucaLampariello I tried it and I'm truly impressed.
Yes! You can change the settings to "basic" and start chatting with AI right away. It assists you, gives you suggestions on how to answer etc. Having said that, I still recommend at least 3 months of pure input before starting to chat with Langua.
One question: I selected Arabic as a total beginner, but there's no transcription of the Arabic alphabet, and the conversations feel too advanced for someone at my level. Shouldn't it start with basic expressions? It's asking complex things, and I have no idea how to answer as a complete beginner. If there were at least a transcription instead of just the Arabic script, I could try to pronounce the words.
You should ask them about Arabic and these features. My recommendation is always to get at least 3 months of input (and in the case of Arabic, learn to read the script) before jumping into a conversation.
would have been better if the AI first would advise of the error made and ways to say the same thing in more natural way and only then ask next question? as it is it's forcing you to do the 'homework' basically
This does look really good. I assume it is a wrapper around Chatgpt, but can someone tell me how it is better than just talking to ChatGpt itself? I mean I can see that it's at least slightly better than plain Chatgpt, but is it so much better as to be worth the money?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this app, like all the others, does not actually "hear" you. It only reacts to what its speech recognition front-end parses. So you can have a very, very bad accent and you will never get corrected on it. As long as your terrible accent is parsable you would continue to muscle memory your terrible accent; a regrettable situation.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! You’re absolutely right that the app doesn’t "hear" in the way a human would-it relies on speech recognition to process what you’re saying. At the moment, it doesn’t offer features to specifically correct pronunciation. That said, the main goal of using this app is to help users develop fluency, build confidence, and get into the habit of speaking the language regularly. It’s an excellent tool for practice and for getting comfortable with forming sentences and expressing ideas. For more targeted help with pronunciation, working with a tutor or a language coach who can give personalized feedback is a great option. Apps and tutors can complement each other beautifully to improve all aspects of your language skills! 😊
@ thanks for answer, could i ask you some more? I looked on their website, but i didn’t find answers (maybe i just missed them) and i have already not a good experience with one app what Olly recommends as well, so i want to be careful. I am Czech and would be hopeful to get explanations in my native language and not english, is that possible on this app? And because German is specific for importance of the articles, is that vocab library for German language also with articles? Thank you so much

I immediately signed up and am spending my morning talking to the French bot! Just trying the free browser version on my phone. Is there an app and have you tried it Luca?
I tried it. And it’s not as good when one is learning the language. You picked the languages you speak fluently. Why don’t you record your struggles in Turkish. When the AI does not understand you. And constant click to record, send. This constant clicking breaks the fluidity of the interaction. I love Luca. But this this is a paid advertisement.
"Why don’t you record your struggles in Turkish" - I will! Starting to speak a language that I still don't master yet is probably the most exciting part of Langua for me. I tired it with Greek and that was GREAT (but I have a B2- level in Greek so having a conversation is not a problem. However, I also started using it with Turkish (my conversational skills in Turkish are next to 0!) and I am having a lot of fun with it and I can't wait to make a video about it and show it to 'ya all!

What about the pronunciation feedback? Does this app cover this feature?
I don't think so, not yet at least.
Der Hammer. I remember that expression from when I studied German too. I think we studied it about the same time.
I love that expression Paul!
awesome. Thanks Luca.
You are most welcome!
Grazie Luca, I take it immediately.
Thanks Andrew, let us know how it goes!
Luca Junior here and I wanna say something that I noticed... Especially in German, but not only.. The stress (Betonung) or even melody isn't adequate for the situation. Specifically:
"Das *klingt* ja gar nicht gut" -> Focusing on *klingt* would be used in a situation where i.e. an instrument sounds bad, in english: "Oh, that doesn't even *sound* good"
Correct would've been "Das klingt ja *gar* nicht gut*, stressing the *gar*, which would turn this into the english equivalent: "Oh, that doesn't sound good *at all*."
Sometimes the voice just sounds a bit robotic, but it really does often stress the wrong word, which can completely change the meaning of the sentence.
The intro video in English also has a few odd pronunciations. The accent is British, but occasionally there will a an American flapped intervocalic T or D (as in 'at all'). Interestingly, the fluent but non-native speaking human in the video has the same inconsistency. This is a very, very minor issue.
Quite impressive indeed. Personally, though, I stick to my more traditional resources.
To each his own as they say 😀
I don't really like talking with bots. I've tried two so far and I don't find it nearly as exciting as it is when I talk to real people. Plus, as far the experiences I had are concerned, bots give us some flawed feedback.
I may try this one though. As it happened to Luca, it may surprise me in a positive way.
I don't really like talking with bots - Same here, but when I started talking to the Langua AI, I definitely changed my mind. Give it a try and let us know how it went!
One thing i tried, and would like to see you try, is start from a language you know nothing about. Not a word. I started speaking German and when he spoke, i answered, "I don't speak German."
He continued in German, but through the translation button, i was able to read and he was happy to help.
Dunno. Would love to see you try a language that you know the least and see what that experience is like.
Great point Tony, and will make a video using Langua with Turkish, a language I don't speak AT ALL as of now.
We do already have some subscribers for these languages as they're happy to put up with a few missing pieces.
what is your cefr level in each languages
Once I saw Jo..er, I got interested. Textbooks always fail to teach this one
nice I understood everything of the german conversation
Hm, maybe I should give it a try. I've been stumbling my way through the Italian language recently.
Give it a try, see if you like and then decide. That would be my advice 😄
Can anyone tell me what the monthly/annual plan costs? Can not find it and I don't make an account without this info. Thanks.
I had the same question and finally found the answer by scrolling down a lot on one of the pages...
They have 2 plans: Unlimited or Communicate
Unlimited: Unlimited conversation practice. 24/7 access to the most advanced AI for language learning.
29.90 EUR/month Or 24.90 EUR/month if billed annually
Communicate: Access everything in Unlimited, except conversations are capped at 75 messages per day (takes 45 mins on average).
19.90 EUR/month Or 14.90 EUR/month if billed annually
It says in the Apple store what the price is, if that is accessible to you
I appreciate your review, it looks like a great tool. It is a pity you did not show how the "beginner" level works. I am sure many people would be interested in seeing how the app behaves with someone who just started learning instead of conversing with someone who is fluent already. Just a thought.
That is a great idea for a new video!
Increíble, no?
Grazie Luca! Lo provero'.
Prego! E facci sapere come è andata 🥰
2:34 Your Spanish is perfect!
Gracias 🥰
I wanted to recommend something similar but it got deleted, let it be 😂 Going to try it out too
Well damn, i signed up yesterday with a different discount.
I haven't had any of these issues you are mentioning
I had issues with the app as well, but when I use Langua on the browser it works flawlessly.
Hello brillant Luca. Unfortunetely I couldn't recieve your free Ebook , Although I asked for it on my email.
Sometimes the system is buggy. Send me a PM and I will send you the PDF and the audiobook!
@@LucaLampariello okay , many thanks
Dein Deutsch ist gar nicht zum Kotzen! 😙
Danke!
pricey, yet amazing
For what it offers, I think the price is actually pretty low
Another question: can I purchase and use as many languages to learn as I want or you just purchase for once language?
Once you have access to it, you can use it for and with any of the languages they offer.
Ciao Luca,
Is there an app for this or not yet?
Yes! You can use it on your phone too and it is fantastic!
Is there a way to switch between languages without going into the settings, or is that the only way to do so?
As of now, I don't think so. But they are constantly improving the app so hopefully they will make it easier soon to switch from language to language
This is on our list, might take a month or two as we have some bigger improvements/features to work on first
I have tried using AI to practice conversational skills but always end up getting annoyed with it. I have tried Univerbal and Jumpspeak but find the voices on these apps too robotic for my taste.
Not the case of Langua though!
@@LucaLampariello I tried it and I'm truly impressed.
Can you use this app being a complete beginner or is in not helpful until you have some vocabulary?
Yes! You can change the settings to "basic" and start chatting with AI right away. It assists you, gives you suggestions on how to answer etc. Having said that, I still recommend at least 3 months of pure input before starting to chat with Langua.
Does it handle formal 'you' as well as informal (Usted, vous, Sie)?
Yes!
@@LucaLampariello Then this plan is not apt for complete basic learners.
Is this a new version of that speaking App that Olly Richard's is behind or completely a different appp?
No, I think the app you are thinking about is Teacher AI
Olly is actually affiliated with both companies, confusingly enough. He told me he has a video on Langua coming soon.
would have been better if the AI first would advise of the error made and ways to say the same thing in more natural way and only then ask next question? as it is it's forcing you to do the 'homework' basically
I've just tried it, but unlike yours, mine says the sentence in Russian first, and then in English. Can you disable this automatic translation?
Glad you tried it Jaime! I think it depends on the settings and the level.
E cosa ne pensi di Promova? Ciao Luca, Rosaria
Ciao Sara!
@@LucaLampariello I think you can also book a pronunciation course for this. Or watch videos on YT if you don't have the money.
That pic at the end of the mom from requiem for a dream! That was hardcore, Luca! 😂😂
Hardcore indeed 😁
@ lol 😆☺️☺️😘
Is langua better than Lingopie?
They are different things. Both are great though!
Went to check out the app. But the app doesn’t do Hebrew 😢.
Not yet!
Is it a app as well?
Yes! And a cool one at that :-D
Thank you so much
Anybody knows if they plan to add asian languages ?
They have just added Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Korean! 🥰
You said you are an addict..... Is that's a true that's as knowing more languages ones longs for more???
Yes sir! I can't get enough of it! 🥰

Tu es français Lucas ? Ton anglais est exceptionnel. J ai un niveau b1 en anglais .mon but c est d être fluent b2 pour réussir le toeic pour voyager partir à l étranger me recommande tu cette application ?
Merci.
Merci beaucoup !
I have put lingua on my iPhone and it works perfectly. I am still amazed by the quality of the voices.
Wish they had Punjabi
I immediately signed up and am spending my morning talking to the French bot! Just trying the free browser version on my phone. Is there an app and have you tried it Luca?
Yes! And as far as I am concerned, the App works just as well on my I-phone!
😄
I was curious about the same thing.
