HARRY CHAPIN: WHEN IN DOUBT, DO SOMETHING is the inspiring story of Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/activist Harry Chapin (“Cat’s in the Cradle”). Chapin sold over 16 million albums and was one of his generation’s most beloved artist-activists who spent his fame and fortune trying to end world hunger before his tragic passing.
The film features Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Peter Seeger, Sir Bob Geldof, Kenny Rogers, Graham Nash, Pat Benatar, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Robert Lamm, Richie Havens, and Harry Belafonte intimately reflecting on Chapin’s larger-than-life impact on music and the world including his founding, along with Bill Ayres, of WhyHunger - the nonprofit organization leading the movement to end hunger and advance the human right to nutritious food in the U.S. and around the world.

They were two of my all time favorites.
It made me cry just to watch the trailer. So I am sure it will be difficult to watch the whole piece. Harry Chapin dying affected me more than the death of anyone I don't have a personal relationship with. I don't know anyone who had a sweeter spirit. I had the opportunity to sit and talk to him a couple of times. I once bought 19 seats in the center section of the 6th row of one of his concerts and gave the tickets to my friends because I wanted them to have seen Harry Chapin.
I've been wondering for years why we haven't seen a professional Harry Chapin biography yet... his life has so many stories to tell

He died before I had the chance to see him. My family and I fight hunger in the homeless community weekly and I was inspired by him. ❤️
I'm so glad that I was blessed to see him a few times. He played for hours longer than anyone. I highly recommend you watch some of the concerts of him online. They're wonderful and they capture a bit of the magic! The live concerts of both him and John Denver that have shown up here are true blessings. I'm looking forward to seeing both of them and concert when I get to the other side. I can only imagine the new songs that he'll have to ing!!

Saw him perform live once. Still listen to his song stories. I was devastated when I heard about his death.

Excellent documentary on Harry Chapin, big fan of the singer/songwriter/hunger activist since the '70s. I remember hearing the shocking news of his passing and later seeing the tractor that collided into his car at a shipping yard in NJ.
I just watched this and it just tore me up. So heartbreaking

I met Harry Chapin in the lobby of Carnegie Hall. During the concert he invited people to hang out there for him to come out and chat. And I did, and soon he did. We talked about that famous 30,000 pounds of bananas - a true story from my home town - SCRANTON, PA, also the birthplace of Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. He was genuinely warm and friendly!

Such A forgotten treasure. Glad they made this. A security guard gave me a cd of his live songs and they used to break me up because I resonated with the lonliness and hurt in the stories.

I wonder if they were to make a movie based on his life and his impact if they would to it justice I wonder who in hollywood would play that man. If I was a movie director (I am not) my dream project would be the story of that man. Love his music.

How sad that we are in February 2021 and this is the 1st time hearing of this. Why has there been no press? And you can't tell me they couldn't found a PR person, since none of us have any work to do. I have to go try to find this
@@ellenw391 As near as I can tell, the PR focused on Facebook, which is where Harry's fan demographic is easiest to find, and Greenwich promoted the film to indy theaters. It's on streaming channels, fairly easy to find. Outside of Long Island, few conventional media outlets were likely to take notice of the film's release.
@@DavidKRandom I'm in at least one Harry official FB group and never saw a thing. And respectfully, as someone who does PR for a living (and a good chunk of it in the entertainment/star level musicians category), this could have been HUGE, especially during the pandemic, when we are starved for the arts, and many are feeling nostalgic. It could have been tied in with the hunger issues people are suffering today and the man who was one of the 1st to bring it to national attention. Why not do a remix on either Taxi or Cats in the Cradle? That alone is newsworthy not to mention hopefully a viral video. Why not line up stars, from Springsteen, James Taylor etc (ALL of whom were doing immensely popular videos esp during early lockdown), and get them all to do a Harry song? These are literally the things that popped to mind w/out really trying. And so many more are coming to mind. I could cry at the missed opportunities. Harry deserved better IMHO! PS media outlets seldom take notice. You have to bring what you are promoting to their attention!

1:46. I have most of these clips in their original form, but this one I don't have. In the unlisted sizzle reels, they show more of this footage but I'd like to see the whole concert. I believe I have it in my collection but only audio.

Pretty sure it's a still picture, but you know when the picture with John Denver, James Taylor and I think Gordon Lightfoot was taken? I can't believe I've never seen it. I thought I've pretty much I've seen every JD picture, along with every harry picture let alone 1 of them together!
What has happened to this documentary? It has been pulled down from every platform.
Now I'm truly frustrated. Does anyone know how to get this to stream? It only showed me local theaters. I have a severe auto immune disease So I will not be going to a local theater until this pandemic is under control. But I will gladly pay to stream it. I'm so happy this was done, but what a poor job of promoting and packaging it! Sure hope the product is better!
Looks great. When it doubt do something isn't always the best idea though. Sometimes nothing is better than something that is a bad idea.

Harry Chapin's Criteria Recording Studios session log book binder from 1980, 11 x 11.25, containing the engineer's notes, performer and track information, and lyrics for some of his last recording sessions, which resulted in songs such as 'Sequel,' 'Story of a Life,' 'I've Finally Found It, Sandy,' 'Old Salt and Pepper,' 'I Miss America,' 'Remember When the Music,' and others. The binder represents the full recording session for Harry's 9th studio album Sequel, will all 10 songs of the album included; the contents are separated by tabbed dividers into sections dedicated to each song. In fine condition, with the three-ring mechanism detached from the binder. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Sandy Chapin, the widow of Harry Chapin, noting that this was the "only recording session where Harry had compiled such a detailed collection of notes." Sequel was the last full album released during Chapin's lifetime.
