Many years ago, I think in the 70s, the South Otago High School Madrigal choral group were touring, and when passing through this space, they realised the great acoustics, and took advantage of it with a spontaneous performance.
The Wainuiomata Choir, with extras, sang Gounod's St Cecilia Mass, accompanied by Janet Gibbs on the Allen Organ, and top soloists, in the concourse many years ago. Our conductor was John Knox, a senior engineer with railways at the time; our recording of the performance shows how great the accoustics are. it's a shame that it could not be used as a venue for choral works more often. John got a bollocking for closing off the concourse, by the way, but when the muse calls, she must be obeyed!
I have a few favorite serches I keep coming back too..funny kiiten, surprise soldier homecomeing, and orchestra flash mob. This video comes up every time and I watch it every time. Its the melancholy sound of the piece that gets me every time. Gratz and way to go!! Awsome performance!!!
WOW!!! If I'm ever in New Zealand I'll be sure to get tickets! Amazing guitarist! I'm turning 40 this year and starting guitar lessons next week! I'm scared to death but gotta bite the bullet! ;-)
If everyone looked at their screens going left to right the one and only trumpet player is shown both at 1:25 & 1:55 as well as the end where he walks away.. So going left to right he is the fourth person and is surrounded by violinists.. It's hard to see the second violinist because she is standing behind the guy with white hair.. The trumpet player has on a black sweatshirt and the music stand is slightly covering his trumpet but you can still see it.. Hope this helps.. :)
Radio NZ recorded it. The poster of the video replied to that comment. High quality recording equipment and a great building to record it in.
couldn't imagine a better place than Wellington Railway station the acoustics are fantastic.
And in the voice of John Campbell, "That was bloody marrrrrrrrrrrrrrrvelous"!!!!!!!!
Diese Gitarre ist so genial, ich finde kaum Worte dafür - Best ever! Auch die Bläser - besser, geht nicht!
the acoustics of this hall is amazing!
