The future of Mababe
Basically in a recent deal with the Mababe community trust a Certain Development company has taken on the management of the area and are closing it to private self drives. In a strange twist the community trust still control the Tshaa campsites and you could if you wanted still book a campsite through the trust however you would not be allowed to drive the routes we drove in this video, so you would have a campsite but no place to drive, unless you drove to khwai or savuti .

Hey thanks for watching 🙏 the bookings are made at the office in maun…..however if you just drive in and find someone at the staff huts ( tshaa camp one as shown on MAPSME ) you can just arrive and pay. This may change as it gets more popular, but currently you probably don’t have to book in advance

No unfortunately, no self driving period. It’s a shame.
@@exploringbotswana Hi there, nice videos you´ve posted. We were in CKGR and Khwai area in Oct -22. Going back in September this year. Fantastic places to visit! I was wondering what you mean by "closed to self drives". The whole Khwai area or just around Mababe gate? Could you be more specific and also inform us of the reason why? Is it permanent?

@@PervonHofsten No just the area around Tshaa (between campsite, river and cutline) which he shows at the beginning when he zooms on google map. Mababe gate area itself is already Chobe so you are supposed to have a permit, while Khwai is community trust so does not count (although it would be best if you had a campsite booke in either Mogothlo, Mbudi or Safari grounds).
But true is, what would you book Tshaa campsite for if you can't drive the area? Good question. Perhaps and sadly, the campsite has seen its days from now on...
I'd say that the best alternative still is Khwai community trust area at this point.
