I was stationed at Phan Rang Air Force Base in 68/69 during the hottest part of the American Vietnam War, viewable from the Cham Temples back then. We would get fired on from the area around the temple in the deep part of the night, and we could not fire back, due to the historic significance of the temple. They would get off 3 - 5 rounds (sometimes more), then leave....always hoping to take out an aircraft or something significant. They were brave fighters....whereas we couldn't just fire away in that area, we COULD send enormous amounts of firepower toward their escape...and they certainly knew that.... Anyway; to watch tourists walking around now 50 years later....I lost 3 friends during that time.......... WAR IS BAD. No one really wins.
Thank you for taking the time to mention this, Robert, it's very interesting. Times have clearly changed a lot! Not sure if you saw in the video, but while I was visiting, fighter jets were flying overhead regularly out of Cam Ranh airbase presumably as part of surveillance in the East Sea (South China Sea). Other than that, Phan Rang is still pretty sleepy, although I noticed some tourism development underway. The motorbike riding is pretty epic in parts!

A fantastic video my friend Matt. While travelers right now limit travel in Phan Rang (Ninh Thuận) to only Vĩnh Hy area, you start to show that there is much more to Phan Rang than that. Also it has a nice name ! 😄

Ninh Thuan province has most of Cham factors in Vietnam. A part of people in Ninh Thuan is Cham people. You also tried bánh căn is a food that inspired by the Cham food, the stove for bánh căn (and bánh xèo) is made by Cham people at the Bau Truc village (about 10km from Phan Rang), which is the oldest craft village in South East Asia. People that want to know more about their culture definitely should come to visit it. (really sorry about my horrible english)
@@TheBureauAsia that's it. "Làng gốm Bàu Trúc". i have a mistake with "Làng dệt Mỹ Nghiệp" (also a Cham village but doing brocade fabric. 2 village are next to each other, definitely worth to visit.

From Nha Trang? By motorbike at a leisurely pace, Phan Rang is about 2 hours to Cam Ranh, and then Nha Trang is about another 30 minutes north, so all up about 2.5 hours. In a car it would obviously be less time. Thanks for watching!
I don't know about property prices there I'm afraid, but Phan Rang doesn't appear to have undergone a boom...yet, but when I was there, I saw at least one large development on the outskirts of town that I believe will be a very large international resort.

It's a nice and unique video anyway. I think most of foreign tourists never heard about Phan Rang or Ninh Thuan.

Beautiful place, but 720 USD for a 12h kite surf course is bit on the high side, not only for Vietnam.

Not really, the lagoon is quite shallow and when the wind's up, the kiters are out!

Need to go to Vinh Hy 😳 looks better than Vinh, which isn't anything special.
It's very picturesque
