Their finishing is a big problem. This is the same thing that happened in the world cup. If they can't finish the chances, whenever they meet up with a better squad, that's more of a possession base, they're going to lose. I don't know if it's Rodman and Smith and that combination up front or as a team issue, but that makes me fix as soon as possible. As soon as Pugh is 100% she needs to be the number 9. She is their most successful finisher.
I’m sure we’ll see all starters starting next game. Twila just wanted to give everyone a chance to play the first two games
enough excellent strikers... only Morgan used to be a striker. It's about creating chances through executing the game strategy.

I'm not sure how different Swanson will be if finally coming onto the field. She's kind of similar to Smith but probably a little faster and has depend on her speed for a lot of the goals. Of course, a little could mean a lot when you're talking about forward. Also, coming back from an injury, you never know what the level they will be at immediately. We had a 9 coming into this tournament, called Mia Fishel, unfortunately got hurt.
@@GuyJamesNot with this squad of young players. Smith to me is to one dimensional like to face up and attack 1v1. Here style of play would not fit well in a passing style offense like we saw in the first half of the Argentina game Swanson has shown she can pass but lately especially under the former coach Vlatko she has become more of Smith type player. The one thing that lacks in this young squad is s solid aerial attack. Playing Smith as the 9 she doesn’t show any ability to score with her head. In fact after the game against the DR I don’t think we have anyone among the young players that poses the ability to score with there head. If Hayes wants to employ a European style attack Smith and Swanson may not be a good fit for that style of play

@@Yanancien Australia not so much in my opinion (I'm Australian). Quite a few of our young players do not seem to be performing to their potential (e.g. Mary Fowler, Kyra Cooney-Cross, Cortnee Vine). I feel it was what prevented our team from going 1-2 steps further at the home world cup last year. We could also see what happened when Australia fielded a team consisting of young players in friendlies against Spain (lost 7-0) and Canada (lost 5-0).

Subbing Korbin Albert was a mistake and created more work for Lindsay (who was already all over the place)to do. The amount of balls delivered to the wings fell off. First half was pretty good. Second displayed all the issues we hoped the USWNT were getting past. lack of creativity from a congested midfield, set pieces are no real threat, failure to finish, lack of goals. Not impressed with Smith at all. She stunk it up front as well as Sonnet in midfield.
I keep seeing people complaining "subbing korbin was a mistake". Although the midfield was better in the first half because of her, you are forgetting that this is a tournament format and not every substitution is tactical. The game was already put away at that point and she will likely be playing a ton of minutes in this tournament so good to rest her...
@@pennwx2526 I understand what you are saying but the US is about to face Mexico who look very dangerous and Twila should not be playing mickey mouse with the line up. What I saw unlike in the match against a very weak DR was balance against a stingy Argentina. Aggression and balance in the midfield and front side that produced a lot of good chances to score. A simple halftime swap changed the dynamic in the middle and overall the way the US put on their attacks. Mexico has runners and shooters from every position. They have defenders willing to move around and play in the forward position. They are aggressive and do not like losing the ball. Their desire to regain possession after a missed pass or after being dispossessed is to be admired. And when they go to the bench, their secondary players can even score. Albert needs as many minutes as she can get to build that chemistry which was immediately noticed with Horan. I don't think anyone needed to be subbed out maybe it's missing Emily but the defense looked fine with her on the bench.

the refs during womens matches are so much less lenient about handballs, hers are out not making a play for the ball and the ball hits the lower elbow, to be called for that and a red card was imo unnecessary

Played great in the first half then the second half the midfield became disjointed with no clear idea on how to pass and open up the defence. Overall, I think the whole team need to improve on their ball control and vision especially dunn-who constantly gave away possession while attempting to find the forwards either on the wing or centrally. It's frustrating to watch aimless passes being made instead of being patient. Improved significantly after she was subbed for nightswonger.
Being able to wriggle your way out of tight spaces is critical for possession based tactics, if not when they play high-quality teams they won't win anything.

I believe this is shaping up to be one of the strongest teams TEAM USA has ever assembled. However, considering the team dynamics, I suggest bringing in Megan Rapinoe to replace Morgan. It seems Morgan may have lost some of her agility for positioning and tends to lag behind. Improving the defense with a bit more speed and injecting additional energy into the midfield could enhance overall performance. On a positive note, the wing duo of Rodman and Shaw has been absolutely sensational!

She is not the 1v1 she is more someone create space for her and she took advantage of open shots. We need younger players who can create their own spots now, and she is pretty much done.
