I played the EBW808C and happened to be in the shop when the Maton distributor was there and gave me the details on why it's great from a sound and design engineering perspective. I used to travel before COVID-19 for work and made it a habit to play in as many music stores as I could get to. I have played a fair amount of Martins, Gibsons, Taylors and more.
In the end, my worst fear was realized... I NEED this guitar. Now, I just need to convince my wife how crucial it is😅

When you figure out how to convince your wife, let me know. Maybe the same trick will work with mine. ;-)

Thanks, I really appreciated the comparison between the cutaway and non-cutaway. Great review.

We had a cyclone here in the Northern Territory of Australia 2 years ago and the Aussie guitar makers came up and collected the fallen down trees- lots of acacias, different eucalyptus up here, casuarinas, pines and mahogany went down. The iron bark, Cherry, Beech, Boabs stood up to the cyclone though.
Not sure how long they need to leave the wood to dry properly but we may see some MAtons and Cole Clarke's with these materials soon??

We were in Dusseldorf Germany in the old town many years ago having some brewski's and shashliks, and walking along with my buddy from Chicago we bumped into some also abreviated fellows and one leaning towards my friend asked him - vas ist dis 808 on this T shirt? BOB smiled at him and from that day forth and 30 years later he is known as 808.

Amazing tone for a blackwood top. Kinda like mahogany but livelier.
I find the 808's interesting. I was fortunate to have the 3rd 808 from the factory way back in the late 1970s here in Oz. It was serial #003! It was a BG808 with spruce top and Queensland Walnut (or maybe maple?) back and sides. The BG evidently stood for " Blue Grass" I found it great for finger picking.

@@ArtisanGuitars it was. Very helpful. Right now, Maton's factory is just coming back online after a state lockdown due to Covid in Victoria. Most music stores here in Aus are out of these. Plus, we are in the middle of an awful heatwave! So-o-o ... having decided the EBW808 is what I want, do I risk buying online and having it shipped in extreme heat ... or do I go to my closest music shop, and pay $500 more (which is actually only the RRP, so I'm just being Scroogey!) and buy one which is much darker than I wanted .. .but available. Like I said, 'decisions, decisions!" But your video definitely helped me decide that yes, the Maton EBW808 is the one I want! Good wishes to you, and thank you again.

Do most of the Maton Blackwoods get the sap wood back? Just full-size not minis? Or is it a bit random on which series have them ?

I am sorry to hear the All-Blackwood 808-C is currently unavailable there in Perth. Our friends at Maton AU are anxious to get out of the current lock-down in the city of Melbourne, and back to building fantastic guitars. It is our assumption that you should see a fresh supply sometime beginning in October or November. We too are short on inventory here in the U.S. and look forward to filling back orders, especially for Custom Shop models from Andy Allen!

@@ArtisanGuitars definitely would have hit them hard. Melbourne has been in limbo for long as heck and they probably have been at less than 50% production capacity. I’ve noticed that a lot of their guitars (including their electrics) have just been out of stock for months likely because they just can’t get the wood or the people in to make them. Now that us Melbournians are essentially out of lockdown, their distribution can get back on its feet
