- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara Ultimate Adventure is small off-road worthy SUV that's been around for a long time. For 2012 it can only be purchased with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that puts out 166 horsepower. Gone is the large 6-cylinder engine. Unlike many modern competitors the Suzuki Grand Vitara is still based on a more rugged truck like frame so it should be good when the going gets tough, rocky and steep. We decided to find out if that was true so we got the 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara very muddy on a short Colorado Rocky Mountain off0road Ultimate Adventure in this first drive review.
I got a 2010 V6, and damn, what a good little truck, has been very reliable too, (89,000 miles and no problems at all)
Few people realize how much more stable a mechanical full time AWD system is on the road when it rains or snows. Only the Vitara and Forester have this setup in CUV's, and only the Vitara can take on potholes and speedbumps that others can't, due to its reinforced chassis.
I own a 2010 suzuki grand vitara, not the 5 door but the 3 door version but i must say this car never ceases to amaze me, it has been remained the only small offroader with a lock able differential and low range most of all, I love it, it got me to everywhere I needed to go even to places where more serious offoraoaders like the previous model ford explorer and jeep wrangler struggled
Every time I go to the Caribbean I rent one of these. Even with open diffs they are awesome in some real muddy lightly maintained roads. Folks would park their rav4s and ride with me.
Why do we use terms like "dated" to describe how things look. Good, continues to look good. Who cares if they want to keep the same headlights?
Hank Hill would say this too , lol
No, Skodas are not sold in U.S. BUt it does look like a fun car that competes with the Fiat Panda.
U would strugle to find something in this class that can beat GV!Even this edition!
i was pleased to see most people disagree with the "review" ...I'm for: from sidekicks to trackers to 4low 4 cyl s ...because...15' into soft sand all others fall away
You know this will eat all the Cuvs you mentioned for lunch off road.
talk about old fashioned well that's funny coming from Americans who have jeep wrangler as there national 4x4s !
Suzuki is very underrated! How do I not see Suzuki Kizashis on the road more often???
The rear door swings the correct way in Australia :P Away from the curb
Hi, I feel that we all as veiwers are missing a lot from this video. You titled it 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara Review, and then went into a load of other unrealated subjects.
My friend has a GV 2011 1.9 LT Diesel and it goes very well and is good on fuel.
I found these reviewers to be unprofessional almost slapstick comedy ?
I have a 2006 V6 Grand Vitara and I love it. Sucks that they are no longer sold in the USA!
Steve Stell I got a 2002.... I like the fact that it's rear wheel drive 4 wheel drive not f****** that weak ass engine sitting the wrong way front wheel drive all-wheel drive ...
solid axle in the back maybe this Summer's project will be putting a solid axle in the front too that it will be a good off roader I have the V6 I'm not really liking it seems like an underpowered and the gas mileage is not that good I'm getting like 15 in town
Yep :( , I own a 2010 3.2 V6
2007 owner here, love it. Very tough and reliable.
I have a 2007 with over 150,000 miles and still going strong Love my Suzuki!!
We'd love to review the Lexus but they have not provided the car for us to review. If they do...we'll get it very muddy.
This is a solid vehicle. The competition does have a V-6's but most do not have a uni-frame construction. Also, AWD vehicles are not as capable off-road as a transfer case vehicle like the Suzuki Grand Vitara. Remember, Suzuki enters into partnerships with other manufactures. Their equator pick-up is basically a Nissan Frontier. So, when GM went bankrupt the Suzuki XL -7 went bye-bye because it was built and GM"s theta platform. This also caused the Vitara to lose the V-6 option.
I agree with you but this far better than the Toyota FJ off road. There is nothing quite like it on the market. Sorry they killed the V6. If the Vitara is axed their is no real alternative for folks who need economical top tear off road performance. Everything else is to heavy thirsty or a car based toy. Reminds me of when jeep killed the Cherokee.
still looks good to me
These guys are tools. Make your own conclusions from their videos and mute everything that comes out of their mouths.
Not sure if you guys gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the new series on Instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my girlfriend for the last couple of weeks :)
@Sterling Misael definitely, have been using instaflixxer for since november myself =)
It's not the only Suv with the door hinged on the right side. Jeep Wrangler, Rav4, Land Rover, etc., etc to name a few
@jerry kapernick: CRV, GX470, Hummer H3 to add to that list
"This thing" doesn't hold a candle to the new Escape? Dude, you don't have to hold a candle to the little Ford -- it catches fire all by itself, Truth is, to get an Escape that even approaches the towing, handling and hauling ability of a GV, you'd have to spend over $13,000 more. And you'd still have to avoid trails the GV handles with ease.
deckyeti and not to mention the Ford will likely break after 50k miles lmao. I own a GV and my dad has owned a few Suzuki’s. Very reliable vehicles, I love mine.
I own a 2007 Grand Vitara and not one problem since owning it in 2014. 120k miles so far and very tough and reliable. It’s not the fastest nor most fuel efficient in its class but I know it will start every morning and never leave me stranded.
Yea I agree. Suzuki really needed to invest a lot more on marketing. They made a great car which no one knows about. That's just sad because not many cars in the class offer AWD or such great styling. But it's their fault
it will woop the ass off the American junk for fuel efficiency and reliability, and that's all that matters in the real world !
Last thing o want to say is that despite the new crop of Small SUV's and cuvs being really reather capable like say the range rover evoque and the vw tiguan no electronic gizmo can offset a real lock able center case or low range gear box and i hope suzuki dont change that by softening it up just like kia have the sportage and so on and so forth
I plan on buying a new one when we move to the Philippines next year. The GV LE has 800 mm ground clearance - better than most comparable cars. Unfortunately, I cannot afford a JEEP, but I can buy one of these.
Good, you don't want a fiat anyway.
Buy it. Its so cool
I wanna get a Suzuki shipped from Japan that’s how much I Love these cars. Don’t know why it didn’t catch on here in the US
Don't bag on those little trucks. Its a continuation of the Sidekick which has been around since 1989! I, in fact have an original 89 Sidekick thats still running after all these years. Class leaders they're not, but off road warriors they certainly are! Also in deep snow like you said. I pass Jeeps that must have cost $40k + and they're in ditches and I just go right on by....
sure, that sounds like a fun "Top Gear" like idea.
Where's the review?
They hate Suzuki
What happened to the sound in the middle of the video?
Good to know...thanks!
why no sound on some parts of the video?
As that other chap said, where's the review? Watched this for five minutes and came away from it learning freaking zilch about the vehicle.
Serious? The new escape is just another CUV now. A tall wagon. I find the GV nice to look at cause it doesn't just fall into the crowd with the escape, CX-5, rogue, hyundai and kia ick. The Forester still looks good. What is wrong with more of a truck like look? Like the LR2. Gee, gone are the days of actually having a utility vehicle eh. I see all these crossover CUV's stuck in the snow every winter. What is the point?
You're correct. But the locking diff is only available on the Limited. I wish these Suzukis kept a real low gear range too. Once again, only the top-of-the-line Limited has it. Thanks for watching!
I'm in Trinidad where we get both the 2.4L as well as an even lesser powered 2.0L engine; in vehicle like this though, I don't care for all out power, but would LOVE more torque. Anyway, mine comes with the low gear, smart key, as well as those neat little headlight washers. We drive on the left side of the road over here, so I wrongfully assumed Suzuki would have switched hinges on the LHD regions; regardless of that, one of my gripes is that it doesn't simply open vertically.
The audio mutes all of a sudden????
I'm just realizing now, but by any chance is this related to the 2008-ish RAV 4? They look sort of similar.
I guess it must be region specific cause here in europe and the middle.east all models come with the same transmission and the lock able diff and low range box, there is no distinction. Thanks and keep up the good work.
None of the cute Cuvs, Can do what the Vitara can off road including the forester. You get Japanese reliability to boot. Small market. the folks that need this know what it is.
Honda has not given us a CRV as of yet. The minute they do, we'll film a review. Thanks for watching!
Could you guys do like a road trip test of one of your vehicles? Perhaps set a challenge for each other, and, hey, have Dave in on it as well. Set a budget, set a goal, come up with a handful of challenges and criteria each, and see who picked the better car.
We will the minute Honda gives us one. Thanks for watching!
Three reasons: Suzuki does little advertising, it is a bit high priced compared to the competion - which is very stiff BTW, and lastly - they are down to about 150 dealers. I don't disagree that the Kizashi is a good design (with eye catching styling), but Suzuki doesn't seem to be trying very hard in the US.
lucky, if we got the 3dr version here i'd make it my daily driver
They really need something like a 2.2 or 2.0 TD4 or something like that. The extra torque would really help out from a diesel when the going gets tough and it will also have better fuel consumption.
Eu version has a 1.9 diesel engine variant.
go to recalls dot gov... check out all the recalls chevy has O_O
Guess we will find out when the new Jeep Compass comes out. Supposed to be based on the Panda. Kinda looking forward to it.
I have a 2011 Suzuki when I do not have lime, I hear a strong voice and do not walk for a while and vote if there is no sound when engaging only
no audio from 40s to 1m 14s
no audio after 2m 53s
That Nathan is my cousin. I worked there, but he’s the big bossman.
You guys really need to do a offload review on the new Honda CR-V because it has the new AWD system that's used in the new Acura RDX
I love these guys! Reminds me of Abbot and Costello. No offense guys. I wanna see DIRTY LEXUS. LOL
Something's wrong w/ the audio it appears.
Hey guys great review as always!
I just love your style an humor please keep it up!
How is 19 city 23 hwy fuel efficient on a 4 cyl vehicle with 166 hp?
Wish I could buy a new one.
wow they should put the v6 back in or go with a turbo like what ford is doing
I am with you.
They look sick
quiero saber como es el consumo de combustible del Grand Vitara...
Another Top Gear favourite!
have you reviewed the CRV?
How to open a fuel gas
It's much cheaper than the toyota rav4 but suprisingly as reliable.Besides it's the king of off road.
Around 10 seconds at 5,400 feet elevation.
are y0u nathan adlen 0f Adlen br0s scrapping?
Sound?
Where did the sound go? 3 min in
It looks. Phenomenal! mix flap What's your opinion about this, guys 11
Очень правильные звуки он издавал, перечисляя конкурентов. Сузуки ГВТ нет конкурентов!
I have a choice between a 2008 or 2012 Grand Vitara both with around 60k miles. Which one should I get?
2012. There was a bulletin put out about 2008 and 2009 GV cylinder heads cracking.
Either, as long as it has a low range gearbox (i.e. 2.4 litre petrol). Do not touch a diesel as it has a very unreliable Renault engine.
जबरदस्त भैय्या जी 🙏
You know car companies have recalls all the time, right?
0 to 60?
Where we find this Car.... in Japan
Yes, but we have them in US.
Fuel efficient? Pfff... You've got to be kidding me.
it competes with the tiguan actually, the panda is too small
fuel efficient ya right...
Love it 😍
I was rooting for Suzuki but they seem not to care about the U.S. market. I wish they brought the new Swift and invest in the dealership. The Kizashi is a good start and far underrated but unfortunately its "small" for our fat American butts. Who knows how long Suzuki will be in the U.S. at least Suzuki Auto.
Wooooo Steelers!!!!!
CHUVAKA SOUND: 0:15
ese es el grand nomade
19/23 MPG for a 4 cylinder of less than 200 bhp? That's pathetic!
Love our 2005 Ford Escape.
Even if they update it, it will no longer be available in the US; as Suzuki is filing for bankruptcy and pulling out of the US.
Utter nonsense.
get a grip
Its a poor mans jeep ahha
Trucker’sView more reliable than a Jeep though
