But I’d like to point out that it is a DEMOCRATIC Republic. “Representative democracy involves the election of government officials by the people being represented. Hey Marie 🧢 ⛰️ 🐻 it's a Long comment again "Montani semper Liberi " hope you don't mind Such a glorious sunny day for a drive to one of West Virginia's most historical towns, how charming those houses are, I like how they've kept it all so well preserved with the personal items on display along with your informative commentary with some interesting firsts. It's remarkable learning about how willing John Brown was to take a stand & fight back against the injustice of slavery even before the civil war started, new visitors can find out more about the raid at the wax museum that's also there . That burger 🍔 for lunch looked sooo tasty & I'm glad there keeping all the oldie recipes ideas going, I don't think you got a chance to sample the old 'true treats' candy & chocolate they've been researching there, if I knew sooner I would have let you know. I did like the views of the creek & cliffside you went across, the bridge does has a rustic beauty about it. Trekking along the Appalachian trail did appear quite tranquil & less active then the summer months, it's a good opportunity to practice your animal tracking skills 🐾, it's funny that you could cross state lines without even knowing it , I not sure if signposts would matter or not, it's impressive that anyone would embark on such adventurous long journey it's probably best to do it in stages, it's sad talking about how animals lose their lives along the freeways , something I've come across with to many prayers to mention, anyway on a happy note the snake 🐍 was kinda cute & harmless, it doesn't surprise me your not afraid it is your ( native) American totem after all so it was probably meant to be. Going to the Bass Shop I can't say I was to thrilled about with all those stuffed animals but it does go with the territory & there was some cool kayaks , jackets & hats along with that plane , you wouldn't expect that at a store over here & buying anything bushcraft related is especially useful right now. On a finishing note I'm so glad that along this special journey you've gotten to see things from a different perspective on how American families live & it's opened up a new world of possibilities for you, what's coming next looks exciting, I found out recently if you turn down your fingers while making the peace sign it symbolises west Virginia. I retired about 15 minutes from Harpers Ferry. This is a great area. Beautiful rivers full of smallmouth bass and other gamefish. Great restaurants, microbreweries and wineries all through the area and, finally, history everywhere you turn from the revolutionary war thru the civil war. Harpers Ferry is where John Brown lit the fuse.
What's cool is I've been here all my life and you're seeing places I've never been before! And I really like that you're getting the full spectrum tour of the US in 2 short weeks. Country, city, COLORS, and everything in between. Really glad you got to do this Marie!
I grew up in Maryland in the 70's and 80's. So I've been to a lot of those places. Harpers Ferry being one of them. In fact, in about 1979 or 1980, I went with the Boy Scouts and went white water rafting down that river at 7:45, it was a blast. As a 10 or 11 year old, it was 'high adventure'! lol. That bridge repair, looking like it was repaired with plywood was probably just a plywood form for concrete behind it. Once the concrete is set, the plywood would be removed. If you ever come back to the U.S. and are on the east coast, let me suggest Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown. On a note about West Virginia, it was actually formed as a state, unconstitutionally (illegally), during the Civil War. All of West Virginia used to be part of Virginia, but West Virginia was torn away from Virginia and formed as a Union State (around 1863 if I recall correctly). It will never be reunited with Virginia to make a single state again, but it is an interesting footnote in history. What is 50 states, should (constitutionally), be 49.
Impressed that the snake didn't scare you. That was surprising. I wonder if your exploration of American history ever had you comparing the relative brevity versus yours in France. Most of the oldest architecture we have remaining is less than 200 years old.

I hiked the entire Appalachian trail 2015. It was absolutely amazing. 2.1k miles and took about 4/5 months. Harpers ferry was one of my favorite towns on the trail. I hope you enjoyed our beautiful country 👋🏻
Wow! S - A - L - U - T - E !! The A.T. was my dream, back when walking 12-15 miles in a day was no big deal! Now? Doing 1/10 of that has me wishing for a codeine tablet!
Very impressive! For Europeans, the 2,178 miles of the Appalachian Trail is enough to walk from Paris to Moscow with enough left over to come back as far as Stockholm. And that's the narrow direction of the US.
WV is truly God's country. I stayed there about 6 months hiking the mountains in the middle of winter in 1999-2000. Not the best time to hike mountains lol, but even then i really appreciated the true natural beauty and AWE of the state.
This brought back some great memories. I got to visit Harper's Ferry on my first trip to the USA in February 2007. I managed to take some great photos, including one of a group of about nine eagles circling above the town and also of the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah. A very cold but memorable day.
Where are you from? Yes, Virginia is still rather north, and stays colder than places like Georgia or South Carolina. I am glad you enjoyed your time here and do hope you make it back!
My dad and I took a Bicentennial trip in 1976, and Harper's Ferry was one of our stops. It became my favorite stop from the whole trip. I've always wanted to go back, but never have.
I am lucky to live about 45 minutes from Harper's Ferry - you had such a beautiful day to be there! Also, that Bass Pro Shop is about 20 minutes from me - we're going to that mall tonight....
Welcome back to my home state of West Virginia. I hope you enjoy it. Loads of history in that little town and area. The trail is amazing and long.... If you ever get back to W.V. you need to go to Cass Scenic Railroad. It was a part of a logging operation. They logged that mountain from the late 1800's until the 1960's. It is so impressive! What a nice video! I love the Appalachian Trail, but haven’t been able to get back there for many years. You showed you are a true animal lover by your appreciative reaction to the Black Rat Snake( by the way, even though that was an adult, they get much larger).sadly , some people would not have had that reaction. I am really enjoying your videos of your trip to America. I am also glad that you got to see this part of the country. It is beautiful. You probably know by now but the AT is 3,430 km long. Hiked it many times.
Harpers Ferry, about an hours drive for me, been through there many times. You were on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, but the bridge you crossed in Harpers Ferry was also the AT. There are many vloggers just like you that hike the entire AT and vlog about it every day for many months, some heading north, some heading south. Should be easy to find on the internet if you are interested.
I love Harper's Ferry! My mother's ancestors are from there and she grew up there. My grandfather was the mayor for quite a few years but I haven't been back since he died in 1981.
I’m so happy you got to see a piece of the Appalachian Trail. I am attempting it next year North bound or NOBO From Springer Mountain Georgia to Mt Katahdin Maine approximately 2180 miles . I wish you would have see an AT hiker , it would have been a cool interview. Love you video’s.

It's refreshing to experience these things through the eyes of someone who appreciates them. I've been in places like Bass Pro Shops and Harper's Ferry dozens of times, but it is easy to take things for granted. Thank you for the fresh perspective.
Oh my dear Marie you are still eating burgers and fries in all of your videos. The French people watching are going to think that we eat burgers everyday. lol.. I always suspend my normal diet when I go on vacation. And I can just imagine that you have been completely overwhelmed by all of the choices. Even when I visit my family in California its like so many new options there that we don't have in my new home state of Washington. So prepare yourself in advance if you are going to California or Las Vegas. Too many places to eat..♥
It is too bad that you cannot see every state in America. Each state has its own beauty and uniqueness. I have lived in Connecticut, California, Arizona, Mississippi, and now, Virginia.

I love Harpers ferry. I grew up in Charles Town just outside of it and we would regularly visit. During the summers we would play in the rivers surrounding town. I've been there for a few weddings.
My goodness, Marie, that was such a relaxing and enjoyable day we got to spend with you, as you explored so many things!! I loved you sharing what was happening during your stay before you got into your day's experiences 😊. I love your Adidas jacket and your beautiful new tennis shoes you got too. (P.S. I tend to have some skin problems when I travel, maybe due to stress or different conditions - I don't know?). It was nice to know you were not sick like you thought you might get with different foods ("paying attention to what you eat" - "No I'm NOT lol" 😉😂), and that you were able to sleep well. It is cool that you were able to stay with friends and not only observe, but actually live their American lives with them 🤗(now shower in am and not pm!) Your pretty morning country road and the lovely river mixed well with your beautiful weather too - YAY! That was one loooooong train Marie - on my!! Harper's Ferry National Historical Park is amazing. They raise some of their support from parking fees 🤣! The town was pretty, in the hills, and had many old structures still standing. The new purple bag from your newly met supporter was lovely. You got some interesting scenery, like the Fancy Goods Store and Bookshop, Shenandoah Street 1880 in Jefferson County, The 1857 Hall's Islands, those Butter Beans, the fabulous 1864 Milling Machine (that was the year I think I was born) 🤣😂!! There were so many firsts and largest, like the American Railroad, the largest federal troop surrender, and the integrated schools . . . so cool!! I lovef seeing the beautiful old buildings and furniture, and also the interesting medical remedies like Olive Tar 😀. The "Dry Goods Store" reminded me of my hometown El Paso Popular Dry Goods Store when I was a kid. So many nice displays everywhere too (Civil War, that 1872 railroad track, and the painting of George Washington! There were old archaeological finds in the building we saw. That was a very appetizing Bakery, including Maple Apple Pie and Banana Nutbread. "Education is important but COFFEE is importanter" 😂😂(also "Espresso Yourself" lol).What a HUGE burger, I would have had to resort to the knife as well, but it sure did look good, along with the Mayonnaise for the fries 😋😋. That skeleton fence was unique, and they had so many Halloween things, like a gravestone "Here Lies Good Old Fred. A Great Big Rock Fell on His Head" 😁. The town was so lovely Marie (the B & B was cool), with the stone buildings, the bridges, the peaceful river , and that tunnel into the mountain. I agree, patching the bridge with that wood was a little strange. But what an amazing hike on the longest footpath in the world, the Appalachain Trail (2189.9 miles = 3524.3 kilometers, from Maine all the way south to Georgia 😮😮😊), with the cute tree-climbing black snake, all those animal paw and hoof prints (loved "Watch My Back") !! 🤗 That wreck and the deer was hard for you to see - so sad, but those happen so often in the wilderness roads. The path was not crowded AT ALL, lovely! I am like you, loving observing life like you were enjoying so much 💓. Wow, that massive Chesapeake Bass Pro Shop was loaded with everything, and so many animals (deer, bighorn sheep, bears, mooses, fish, buffalo) and tracks on the flooring, with all kinds of outdoor gear! I can't wait to see what the Very Special Place is, but in the meantime, I so greatly enjoyed your marvelous, relaxing, outdoor and indoor exploration of probably America's oldest national park ❣❣ Thank you so much Marie, as always!!! Deer are the most dangerous animals in the US for human injuries or death. I have hit a full buck at 60 mph at dawn. I was very lucky, the deer was not. Animals are frequently moving at dawn and dusk when it is hard to see them.
bass pro always is fun as you see so much different stuff in one place. in orlando you see tons of saltwater fishing stuff and no snow stuff because it doesn't snow at all here. hunting is legal but often bows are used as they are less damaging and it feels nicer. i constantly watch the huge fish tank in mine. that trail is ridiculous as it takes like four months to do and people have done it just walking it. it can get challenging too if you aren't prepared. and also the food isn't that greasy just you aren't really used to it. italian food has a lot of hidden fat in dishes. you honestly see different things where you are in the statesso you can really understand. you see conch in florida but no where else, hogfish is big but not elsewhere, key limes you see only here as they can't be transported very far. you kinda get the idea. always ask for a good local place so you can try good local food.

You learned a lot about Harper’s Ferry. When I go I just go river tubing and drink. Lol. But I’ve hiked that same part of the Appalachian Trail and visited Bass Pro Shops many times.
You have a great knowledgeable friend, I grew up on the east coast from Maine to Florida , we were taught about the harpers ferry raid in school, a precursor to the American Civil War, late September and most of October we had some warm great weather , you came at a good time

Another great video. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in America and got to see so many different places and not just the tourist stops. I am from West Virginia and didn't know all of the history of Harpers Ferry. As the person said, the Appalachian Trail goes 2100 miles (3500 KM) from Georgia to Maine following the long chain of mountains. I've hiked short sections of it but up to 3000 attempt the whole distance each year (they say 1/4 may finish it).

John Brown's raid, and other events, led up the Civil War. The raid was put down by US forces commanded by Robert E. Lee, who would later switch sides and become the leader of the Confederate army.

@@FrenchTasticExplorations If wild animals were smarter they would be called careless, but maybe humans could invent technology to alert humans of possible impacts from wild animals, while not making the situation worse . Posts along side a road with sensors that also pass the message from post to post till the message gets to a automobile so a person knows what is happening ahead.

Impressed that the snake didn't scare you. That was surprising. I wonder if your exploration of American history ever had you comparing the relative brevity versus yours in France. Most of the oldest architecture we have remaining is less than 200 years old.

I hiked the entire Appalachian trail 2015. It was absolutely amazing. 2.1k miles and took about 4/5 months. Harpers ferry was one of my favorite towns on the trail.

Last place I lived had the Appalachian Trail right behind it. The small part that I went on is extremely peaceful. Just watch out for the bears. Lol

For Europeans, the 2,178 miles of the Appalachian Trail is enough to walk from Paris to Moscow with enough left over to come back as far as Stockholm. And that's the narrow direction of the US.
WV is truly God's country. I stayed there about 6 months hiking the mountains in the middle of winter in 1999-2000. Not the best time to hike mountains lol, but even then i really appreciated the true natural beauty and AWE of the state.

This brought back some great memories. I got to visit Harper's Ferry on my first trip to the USA in February 2007. I managed to take some great photos, including one of a group of about nine eagles circling above the town and also of the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah. A very cold but memorable day.
Where are you from? Yes, Virginia is still rather north, and stays colder than places like Georgia or South Carolina. I am glad you enjoyed your time here and do hope you make it back!

My dad and I took a Bicentennial trip in 1976, and Harper's Ferry was one of our stops. It became my favorite stop from the whole trip. I've always wanted to go back, but never have.

Welcome back to my home state of West Virginia. I hope you enjoy it. Loads of history in that little town and area. The trail is amazing and long.... If you ever get back to W.V. you need to go to Cass Scenic Railroad. It was a part of a logging operation. They logged that mountain from the late 1800's until the 1960's. It is so impressive! You showed you are a true animal lover by your appreciative reaction to the Black Rat Snake( by the way, even though that was an adult, they get much larger).sadly , some people would not have had that reaction. I was just there this spring! It's one of my favorite historical tourist locations I've ever seen.
Harpers Ferry, about an hours drive for me, been through there many times. You were on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, but the bridge you crossed in Harpers Ferry was also the AT. There are many vloggers just like you that hike the entire AT and vlog about it every day for many months, some heading north, some heading south. Should be easy to find on the internet if you are interested.
I love Harper's Ferry! My mother's ancestors are from there and she grew up there. My grandfather was the mayor for quite a few years but I haven't been back since he died in 1981.
I’m so happy you got to see a piece of the Appalachian Trail. I am attempting it next year North bound or NOBO From Springer Mountain Georgia to Mt Katahdin Maine approximately 2180 miles . I wish you would have see an AT hiker , it would have been a cool interview. Love you video’s.

Oh my dear Marie you are still eating burgers and fries in all of your videos. The French people watching are going to think that we eat burgers everyday. lol.. I always suspend my normal diet when I go on vacation. And I can just imagine that you have been completely overwhelmed by all of the choices. Even when I visit my family in California its like so many new options there that we don't have in my new home state of Washington. So prepare yourself in advance if you are going to California or Las Vegas. Too many places to eat..♥
It is too bad that you cannot see every state in America. Each state has its own beauty and uniqueness. I have lived in Connecticut, California, Arizona, Mississippi, and now, Virginia.

I love Harpers ferry. I grew up in Charles Town just outside of it and we would regularly visit. During the summers we would play in the rivers surrounding town. I've been there for a few weddings.
My goodness, Marie, that was such a relaxing and enjoyable day we got to spend with you, as you explored so many things!! I loved you sharing what was happening during your stay before you got into your day's experiences 😊. I love your Adidas jacket and your beautiful new tennis shoes you got too. (P.S. I tend to have some skin problems when I travel, maybe due to stress or different conditions - I don't know?). It was nice to know you were not sick like you thought you might get with different foods ("paying attention to what you eat" - "No I'm NOT lol" 😉😂), and that you were able to sleep well. It is cool that you were able to stay with friends and not only observe, but actually live their American lives with them 🤗(now shower in am and not pm!) Your pretty morning country road and the lovely river mixed well with your beautiful weather too - YAY! That was one loooooong train Marie - on my!! Harper's Ferry National Historical Park is amazing. They raise some of their support from parking fees 🤣! The town was pretty, in the hills, and had many old structures still standing. The new purple bag from your newly met supporter was lovely. You got some interesting scenery, like the Fancy Goods Store and Bookshop, Shenandoah Street 1880 in Jefferson County, The 1857 Hall's Islands, those Butter Beans, the fabulous 1864 Milling Machine (that was the year I think I was born) 🤣😂!! There were so many firsts and largest, like the American Railroad, the largest federal troop surrender, and the integrated schools . . . so cool!! I lovef seeing the beautiful old buildings and furniture, and also the interesting medical remedies like Olive Tar 😀. The "Dry Goods Store" reminded me of my hometown El Paso Popular Dry Goods Store when I was a kid. So many nice displays everywhere too (Civil War, that 1872 railroad track, and the painting of George Washington! There were old archaeological finds in the building we saw. That was a very appetizing Bakery, including Maple Apple Pie and Banana Nutbread. "Education is important but COFFEE is importanter" 😂😂(also "Espresso Yourself" lol).What a HUGE burger, I would have had to resort to the knife as well, but it sure did look good, along with the Mayonnaise for the fries 😋😋. That skeleton fence was unique, and they had so many Halloween things, like a gravestone "Here Lies Good Old Fred. A Great Big Rock Fell on His Head" 😁. The town was so lovely Marie (the B & B was cool), with the stone buildings, the bridges, the peaceful river , and that tunnel into the mountain. I agree, patching the bridge with that wood was a little strange. But what an amazing hike on the longest footpath in the world, the Appalachain Trail (2189.9 miles = 3524.3 kilometers, from Maine all the way south to Georgia 😮😮😊), with the cute tree-climbing black snake, all those animal paw and hoof prints (loved "Watch My Back") !! 🤗 That wreck and the deer was hard for you to see - so sad, but those happen so often in the wilderness roads. The path was not crowded AT ALL, lovely! I am like you, loving observing life like you were enjoying so much 💓. Wow, that massive Chesapeake Bass Pro Shop was loaded with everything, and so many animals (deer, bighorn sheep, bears, mooses, fish, buffalo) and tracks on the flooring, with all kinds of outdoor gear! I can't wait to see what the Very Special Place is, but in the meantime, I so greatly enjoyed your marvelous, relaxing, outdoor and indoor exploration of probably America's oldest national park ❣❣ Thank you so much Marie, as always!!! I hope you are taking good care and having good times and feeling better with each day 💕🙏🥰‼

I know someone that has hiked the entire length of the Appalachian Trail starting in Georgia and it took her 6-7 months.
Deer are the most dangerous animals in the US for human injuries or death. I have hit a full buck at 60 mph at dawn. I was very lucky, the deer was not. Animals are frequently moving at dawn and dusk when it is hard to see them.
bass pro always is fun as you see so much different stuff in one place. in orlando you see tons of saltwater fishing stuff and no snow stuff because it doesn't snow at all here. hunting is legal but often bows are used as they are less damaging and it feels nicer. i constantly watch the huge fish tank in mine. that trail is ridiculous as it takes like four months to do and people have done it just walking it. it can get challenging too if you aren't prepared. and also the food isn't that greasy just you aren't really used to it. italian food has a lot of hidden fat in dishes. you honestly see different things where you are in the statesso you can really understand. you see conch in florida but no where else, hogfish is big but not elsewhere, key limes you see only here as they can't be transported very far. you kinda get the idea. always ask for a good local place so you can try good local food.

You learned a lot about Harper’s Ferry. When I go I just go river tubing and drink. Lol. But I’ve hiked that same part of the Appalachian Trail and visited Bass Pro Shops many times.
We have a Bass Pro Shop in my town overlooking the lake. I would live there if they would let me! Lol
The plywood on the bridge repair is a form to hold the concrete used to repair the bridge.

Another great video. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in America and got to see so many different places and not just the tourist stops. I am from West Virginia and didn't know all of the history of Harpers Ferry. As the person said, the Appalachian Trail goes 2100 miles (3500 KM) from Georgia to Maine following the long chain of mountains. I've hiked short sections of it but up to 3000 attempt the whole distance each year (they say 1/4 may finish it).

Harper's Ferry has so much history. John Brown's raid, and other events, led up the Civil War. The raid was put down by US forces commanded by Robert E. Lee, who would later switch sides and become the leader of the Confederate army.

Posts along side a road with sensors that also pass the message from post to post till the message gets to a automobile so a person knows what is happening ahead.
