If you knew the history of lion dance families, you would the difference between lion drum, Kung fu drum and the various family styles. They performed a fusion of China, Malaysia, and Vietnam beats. All from the same root but different. Not tarnished at all.
There is a reason why gongs have continued being made with bronze and not steel. The sound cuts across everything way too easily. All I heard was the gong with the cymbals coming in occasionally. I won’t knock the steel gong as it’s a new look, but given the set up of one drum, one cymbal, and one gong, it’s like a hot knife through butter. Perhaps if there were like 5 cymbals going on, maybe it would be a much better balance. This is coming from someone that studied music and did this stuff for awhile.

It depends if the person that’s doing the gong Is hitting it hard with making it louder sound better but he is hitting it softly so it sounds terrible he was in my lion dance group we have a steel one and when somebody hit it like softly it sound terribly everybody was complaining afterwards
