    I couldn’t agree more about the battery. I recently brought a 2nd 500wh battery as a backup to the 625wh battery that was originally shipped with my TR5 alloy. The weight difference between the two powertubes is stark to say the least and totally changes the riding characteristics of the bike. It’s the number one reason why I only use the smaller power cell at bike parks!

    Yeah well after blowing up wheels left and right on my carbon Levo I switched to Envy and also added Cushcore with Maxxis Assegai 2.6 and I have had zero problems since this time. I think getting stuck way back in the boonies because you shed 4-5 lbs is not a wise decision unless you are a racer and it really makes a difference. Yeah the Cushcore is optional and I get it but I am big and after burping my front tire and not destroying a $2000 set of wheels I am happy. I just design everything for strength and reliability and I am happy and this includes making sure I have 32 spoke wheels. Also, this confidence adds to the pleasure of just pulling my bike, oiling the chain, and going for miles. I think if you are over 180-200 lbs and are designing around lightweight and are not a racer you are just throwing your money away and more than once if it’s around your wheels. Just my opinion but I have been riding for almost 35 years down and up hairy trails and I like my theory.

    In my Trek Rail carbon owner opinion, too many bits require customization and replacement to achieve that below 19.5kg mark... Good to know that it can be done but I will stick with my factory setup for now 😊

    Full power ebikes are great if you are actually riding these.. like actually running black trails, my advice is if your going to hit large drops and jumps. Creating the lightest bike you can is folly. You need to build your wheels heavy and strong. Cushcore atleast on your rear.
    Iv learnt this the hard way.
    If your not riding hard, sure, it probably doesn't matter, build your bike as light as you want.

    does it really make a difference while total weight of the bike is fraction of total weight of rider? whats the difference between 89 and 92kg? you sacrifice maxium distance over 3 kg lighter bike? whats the point?

    • @michael_the_chef
      @michael_the_chef ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most difference are light poppy carbon wheels, with a semi slick in the rear(minion ss) and use only lighter casings. Its all about rotational mass.
      I have got two ready to go wheel sets, tough enduro ones on alloy wheels, where i put a mud tyre up front in the Winter and a light but still pretty strong carbon one with lighter, harder compound and less knobby tyres.
      I would Stick to the Stock battery and would care more about the wheels...
      But i have to say the yari upgrade is great i have done the same, for 200-300 Euro i basically got a lyric ultimate

  • @dylanwynroberts
    @dylanwynroberts ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought the whole point of an ebike was to not worry about weight as the motor will take care of it. So leave the 38mm Zeb’s on, put on the grippiest tyres you can…….. leave the weight saving to normal mtb’s which have to be self propelled?

    Chasing the lightest bike possible is so “analog bike” thinking. With power, why would you want a light bouncy bike that has light components that wear out quickly. I love how solid my full fat Turbo Levo rides. Emtbs should be striving for durability vs. weight

    • @wx2999
      @wx2999 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Here are some reasons to not ignore weight: greater range/efficiency, less wear on the motor and drivetrain, better suspension performance if the weight is unsprung, ability to use analog bike components, ability to use a bike rack that has a normal weight limit, having a similar ride feel to an analog bike.
