The casting choices were so perfect! I couldn't imagine it any other way. Jonathan mentioned the evolution of Daniel Jackson. A lot of smart decisions were made here. I love how the character evolved, and he became an experienced soldier and a key member of SG-1. I also like how there was always a romantic interest between Carter and O'Neill, but lines were never crossed. Well except the Groundhog Day episode. Such a great show!
They were all perfect for the parts they played, it was an amazing series, followed by SGA, i still watch it now and again, it will always remain my all time favourite series.
@@adamm2091 I say that's largely due to the writers trying to be a carbon copy of SG1. Once the show got going it was better, but Weir, Teya, Ronon, Carter, Woosley, and Ford were always treated as secondary to Rodney and Sheppard. Which SG1 never did. SG1 was much better at leveraging their talent.
For myself, 'Stargate SG-1' is a classic example of capturing lightning in a bottle. The Cast, the story, which EVOLVED so damned well over the following years/Seasons, never failed to entertain and enthrall!
"Listen to me. I know what it´s like" "You can´t!" "I LOST MY SON. I KNOW!" "O.O" "And as mutch as I... I could never life that over again... Could You?" "...no..." "Let her go"
For such a funny episode, that moment hits all the harder. RDA's face in the scene is perfect. You can feel that he still completely blames himself. As he said to Daniel years before, he will NEVER forgive himself. Only sometimes forget. And moments like that bring it back crystal clear that he's always going to be a little bit broken inside because that is not something you ever get over.
0:48 in retrospect a fateful decision for Stargate. the humor is an important part of why the show was so popular (i know it was for me), that's something the showrunners forgot about when they moved on to SGU. i don't think it's a coincidence that it's the shortest running series xD. who wants to wallow in misery with unlikable moapie characters for 40 mins?! some people do, but it's a small minority
I used to watch some episodes with commentary on (Judge and DeLuise were always a hoot). In one they mention how writers were secretly writing comedy show for years. I thought it fit so perfectly.
Possibly the best casting they did. I love Sam, Daniel, Teal'c and the general. I could go on, but after 7 years of Richard Dean Anderson on MacGyver and being such a huge part of my childhood, it immediately catapulted me into this world. It gave it legitimacy in my opinion.
One of the many of the Best Decisions ever made, including the rest of the cast, writing, ect😎 watch Stargate every day. My day is not complete without Stargate.
Lol. Me too. When I watched the first episode, I couldn't help but wonder why they changed the actor playing O'Neil but kept Daniel. A little clarification. Before Stargate, I didn't know who Richard Dean Anderson was.
I watched the film when it came out in theaters and thought that the actor playing Daniel was the same, at first too. The comedy in this series was perfect. I would watch this show with my mom once it moved to the scifi channel. She's not into science fiction, but she liked MacGuyver and loved Stargate.
The way I viewed Jack from the movie vs Jack from the show was that Jack from the movie was still in the grief process and connecting with Scar opened him up to the idea that life could go on and Jack from the show has finished the grief process (it is a year later). Jack from the show is still not happy, he doesn't smile, he does not express emotions, in place of expressing that cares about somebody,,,, he cracks a joke, instead of encouraging or complimenting somebody.... he cracks a joke. The jokes seem to be his way of avoiding feeling his emotions. He cares but is afraid to show he cares so he cracks a joke. And when you do back him into a corner and specifically reference his son or put him in a situation that reminds him of his son, it allows Jack to stop the joking and it intensifies the drama of the scene.
As much as it's just my opinion, having Jack's ex wife in an episode would have been a great reach back and given the death of his child storyline some closure
Anybody else see Trump announced Stargate coming back I was so excited for like 5 seconds and I found out it was a government AI program but still Stargate lives
Carter would be much easier to cast today because the "believable as a soldier" is no longer part of casting women in such roles, they just cast a 5 foot tall 95 lb woman and pretend she can beat up a 6'5" 250 man.... just because.

The casting is what makes this show extra special. The main four actors are all just perfect for their roles.
Alla 5 were

I agree with perfect casting, however, I just couldn't get into SGA. It fely like an inferior SG:1.

Micheal Shanks' roll by comparison to that of James Spaders' in the original movie was uncannily good.
From fringe archaeologist to demigod.Up there with Nog as one of the best character arcs in science fiction.
"in the middle of my back swing" 😁
^5!
omgs, that never fails to make me smile/laugh!

Could never life? Like bring to life?

Jonathan 's daughter Samantha stars in the Scifi show The Ark
I think it's normal for people to watch half of Season 1 before realising that isn't Spader.

Would be interesting to know who some of the other actors considered for the main cast were.

I watched this, then the full video, then all of The Outpost season 1 and starting season 2 now.... I didn't even know about that show.
Haha naming all my children Amanda, Samantha and even Carter and perhaps Tapping. I won't look like a crazy fan at all! :D
Awesome!
Reason number 257 why SG1 is far better than the original movie.
I still remember when Richard Dean Anderson and Christopher Judge were on MacGuyver th-cam.com/video/t9E1sNl0lVY/w-d-xo.html
His casting prevented me from getting into the show. I could never not see MacGyver.
As much as it's just my opinion, having Jack's ex wife in an episode would have been a great reach back and given the death of his child storyline some closure
Jack’s ex did show up in an episode.

I was thinking more like the Terminator Genesis after 3 1/2 sec.
Or is it just Plausible Deniablity like Wormhole X-streme

Those shows don't get 10 seasons.
