While I really like both buildings, I would have preferred if they just made it all one building with pizzeria downstairs and club on top. I think it would have allowed for a lot more floor space, while also allowing the building to be a lot more imposing. I kind of miss the single building Modular’s just because it made them appear so much bigger
Last year the Boutique Hotel blew me away visually and finally pushed me over the edge into collecting modular buildings. Upon my actually building the set, it blew me away again with the sheer amount of cleverness involved in its design. (I didn't know that kind of geometry was even POSSIBLE in Lego.) The Jazz Club is in the unfortunate position of following it up. While I am drawn towards the light yellow/dark red color scheme, and the concept is perfect for a modular building, the structure just feels uninspired next to its predecessor. It doesn't help that it looks kinda lousy when connected to the Hotel, which makes it a poor choice for me personally. I ended up buying the Bookstore instead, which was lovely (especially that townhouse.)
I love this set. My modular buildings collection originally consisted of the brick bank, assembly square, corner garage, and the bookshop. I was missing a real colorful and vibrant set for the city block. Something like the place cinema or even the detectives office with its signage on the exterior. This set is clearly the entertainment hub on the block without being too flashy. I love the colors. Is the stage and crowd area too small? Yea, but not nearly as bad as palace cinema interior small. I just wish they were more logical with the interior. There’s wine glasses and bottles, but no bar? They can do a full Star Wars cantina, but nothing here? That’s what should’ve gone there instead of the record label and hiring agents desk, along with a server to serve the drinks and pizza. That desk has a phone on it, and there’s a record player, yet it’s an open area that overlooks the stage where there’d be loud music. Why would that stuff ever be there then? As a designer, why not make that area more usable for the overall idea of the set like concessions being served? I will say the interior has those problems, and when I get this set I will do some edits. But I love the exterior. I think it’s the perfect entertaining area that looks nice next to something like the assembly square with its cafe and various stores. The jazz club, like the cinema, looks great on the outside without overdoing it. That’s where I feel another set, the diner, has its problems. But then again the diner has an excellent interior whereas the cinemas interior leaves much to be desired. The jazz club balances out the problems of both those similarly flashy sets.
You really grapple with a question I've seen modular fans discuss for over a decade: what's more important, a quality interior or a spectacular exterior? There has to be some sort of balance for each set, of course, but the expectations to appease both groups is hard to meet. Personally, I favor the exterior detail over the interior. Honestly, I'd be okay with a bare bones interior because we can always add to it. It's harder to do that with the exterior. And your analysis is very solid on those sets!
Appreciate the honest opinion. Due to room and budget, I have no intentions of getting all the modulars. Will have to pass on this and the bookshop unfortunately.
This set looks nice, but indeed has its flaws. The Jazz club could easily be expanded to a 32 stud wide entertainment joint. The pizzeria would make a good half-sized set house with an additional level on a 16x32 baseplate.
@@buildingtogether4171 oh, ok, thanks. This helps to understand. In your opinion this set is quite comparable to those others. Must give off a better impression when actually built, because merely looking at it doesn't work for me :( I wonder, could you please tell me, is there an option in this build to convert at least one of those first floor windows in the yellow building into a door, do you think? The inaccessible balconies are giving me serious ocd. How did those hanging plants get there? How are they tended etc.
She says 9 out of 10, but puts a stack of ten bricks on the table. How are you able to top that? So compared to the Jazz Club Parisian Restaurant and Assembly square would be 15 / 10

enjoyed cooking dinner while watching your review, very relaxing

The record player can be used during the day when there’s no performance going on. I like it personally
I just wanted to say I like your latest upload schedule, it must be a lot of effort!
Oh and you are the cutest family ever…
Good luck!
Thank you so much!!

It’s one of my favorite modulars! Love the color, the height, the windows. I much prefer printer letters over brick built
Very cool set
Good review. Thanks!
My main issue is the color scheme. Red blue and yellow is just too basic of a combo for my liking and doesn't flow very well.
That's a fair critique. I keep thinking about which colors I would prefer: something dark and smokey, or something light and airy?

If you give this modular a 9/10, I wonder what you would give to a Parisian Restaurant or an Assembly Square... an 11 / 12?
I would give them a 10!

nice video
Thanks

oops! Quite the observation! Guess I couldn't count that day!
