    How to replace your Heater Blower Motor in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler
    My blower motor does not work in the cold on my 2001 Jeep Wrangler. I replaced the 3-way switch hoping that was my root problem. (It was not the root, but it was an issue). I then replaced the Blower motor resistor, which was also not the root problem. Then I replaced the Heater Vacuum Switch, (also not the issue)
    Finally I replaced the Heater Blower Motor and that fixed it finally!

    I've run into the infamous fan blower issue on my 97 Sport and plan to replace the switch first since none of the speeds work. Your videos are the clearest and easiest to follow. Just had to say that your wife is excellent at the camera work. When you were showing the resistor from the engine compartment, it was blocked by a connector and I was thinking "Please move the connector to show it" and voila, your wife saw it wasn't visible either and asked you to show it again. That was outstanding! Anyway, have to order the proper switch online since no auto parts stores carry it here and 97 models seem to use a different switch than 99 and later years. Should be fun!!!!

      Yeah big praise goes to my wife for getting good shots. Nothing more frustrating than having a youtube video where you can't see an important piece. Not saying my videos are perfect, but they are a lot better because of my wife :)

    Always check your fuses! My kid pulled the wrong one when we took the top off this summer. The HVAC blower motor fuse is right next to the door switch disable fuse. That was a five second fix! 😜

    The Jeepsters Curse at 5:25 you tell it DON'T DROP, and it does.
    Had to watch this since I wasn't sure where the hell my blower was, inside or outside, my cowl was broken so over the years leaves accumulated in the blower vent, and when your driving and ya turn on the blower on high, it smells like pot in the jeep.
    And today when I turned it on my whole jeep filled with smoke, and it was those leaves again so I completely cleaned out the cowl and reglued it and now i get to pull out the blower and have a vacuum ready to suck all the crap out since it still smells slightly like burning leaves or pot...
    Thanx for the video brother.

      that is for the resistor, the blower was $55...
      blower positioned in same general area on firewall, but has AC and smog stuff in the way

    • @stanbrookfamilyvideos7138
      @stanbrookfamilyvideos7138 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blower is nestled in the lower passenger side firewall , made for slow going due to charcoal canister/gizmo bracket which was easy to move out of the way without unplugging the electrical connector and the aluminum AC evaporator thingie.

    • @stanbrookfamilyvideos7138
      @stanbrookfamilyvideos7138 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just had to pry the AC thing a bit to get the motor out., ALSO hard to locate and remove/install the 3- 8 mm screw bolts , needed bright spotlight and snub handle 5/8 drive with 1/4 adaptor and 8mm deep socket. Didn't really need the deep socket but made it a bit easier to blindly position the screws.

    The plug is different on early 97 models. It has a pigtail connection, which is what I have and they are hard to find and seem to be twice the price. I also can not find a pigtail of the newer design, that I could cut off the incoming plug off the Jeep and be done with it. So I am going cut the old pigtail off and put spade connectors on (make sure I have the polarities correct) then cover the connection with rtv silicone. Hope this can help someone.

    Thanks for the video. I only have fan blower on working on high setting. And getting a squeal from serpentine belt sometimes when turning the fan blower on. i was hoping it would be that easy. i tried a new resistor, same thing still happening, then tried the blower control switch, same thing. then read up that it could be the harness at the resistor so i bought that but it doesnt look bad so im hesitant on splicing in right now. With today's rain, my serpentine belt is squealing like a son of a gun, especially when i turned the blower on to defrost windshield of the fog and when i turned on headlights. So i was thinking alternator. So I squealed my jeep over to advance and they ran the battery, starter, and alternator test and everything came back in working order. I also was experiencing issue with my turn signals/radio/wipers not working. I read those 3 items along with the ignition are grounded together. But when I pulled the stereo to install my after market, the ground wasnt screw or bolted to anything, so I just got that to the firewall and will see how it acts in that regard. The squealing serpentine belt is purchased and getting thrown on tomorrow AM, but going to pull the blower motor as you showed in this video to see if that blower motor is the issue.

    • @lol_paul_ledoux
      @lol_paul_ledoux 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      my lady did notice some black debris coming from the windshield defrost vent when I was showing her the squeal earlier. it looked like some black felt or foam or mesh. hopefully pulling the blower out will show something tomorrow. probably going to order new blower motor anyways and throw in when i get it

    • @publikenemi49
      @publikenemi49 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For safety reasons , the highest speed runs directly off battery/alt so you always have defrosting capabilities. So that’s when you’re hearing alternator belt/serpentine squeaking.

    I wish you had a clip of the before sound. Mine just took a proverbial movement. I also want to know if my '02 TJ is like yours or the '04's mounting from within in the passenger's area. I imagine mine is like yours.

    • @Whiteboardcoder
      @Whiteboardcoder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 02 has a few changes, but not much. If I recall correctly the Blower Motor resistor was solid state versus what I had, but most other things should be identical

  • @beqa16v
    @beqa16v 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video thank you very much. I have a somewhat similar problem but a bit different. Mine is 97 Sahara. It has a different hvac with sliders. It all started when I noticed that the AC was coming on and off once in every few seconds. It was switching off especially when you give engine gas and increase the revs, the AC compressor would just stop. After that first two blower speeds stopped working at all, later 3rd one also gave up and then it entirely stopped. No heater, no AC, it is just not blowing. I have disassembled the central console. What I have noticed is that the relay in the dash behind the glovebox area makes the clicking sound when I put it into the highest setting but the motor will not blow. On lower settings the relay does not make any sound. What would you advice me to do? Go with the motor first or with the resistor?

    • @Whiteboardcoder
      @Whiteboardcoder  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I would try the motor. If the resistor is similar to mine it would work on high. (High = no resistor in the circuit)
      But that's just a best guess on my part :)

    • @beqa16v
      @beqa16v 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot. Based on that I think the resistor is also blown. It worked only on high for some time. Even now when I switch it to high the relay clicks, mening it starts transmitting electricity to the motor but the motor will not blow. I think its both motor and the resistor. I will post back when I fix it.

    • @beqa16v
      @beqa16v 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a spare motor. I connected it but nothing happened. On a spare motor there was a harness and I found a relay on it. I found the same relay in the interior, behind the glovebox. That relay was clicking when I put the switch on the highest setting therefore I never thought that could be a problem. I just replaced that relay with the one from the spare harness and the motor started working again. It still works only on the highest setting which is probably the fault of the resistor and I have already ordered one.

      I did the front panel and resistor today because the front switch finally dies. Ever since I've had this 99 jeep tj only the lower 2 settings worked. Of course it finally died in the winter when it was 15 degrees out. I should ahve done this years ago. Yay, I have heat blowing now but when I crank it up to 3 and 4 the blower is really loud. I vacuumed the chute behind the resistor but it's still loud. Can you hear the new blower when on 3 and 4 with a brand new one? Thanks for the video. Good stuff. In hind sight I probably could have just replaced the rheostat instead of the whole front panel. Arg. Anyone need a front panel. lol

    • @Whiteboardcoder
      @Whiteboardcoder  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The new blower on mine was about as loud as the old one. (not very). It did make some weird noses at first and barely put any air out because I plugged the blower in backwards. BUt if that was your case you would notice practically no air coming out.

    so my ac dosnt blow at all and the guy before me replaced everything but the blower motor like it just randomly stopped blowing one day could this be my problem ?

    • @Whiteboardcoder
      @Whiteboardcoder  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your problem is different than mine. But if he has replaced everything circuit breaker/Blower motor resistor/3 way switch then I think its probably worthwhile to replace the blower motor. I might go down there first with a multimeter and make sure power is getting there.
