I love your channel. Thank you for this video. I had not seen anyone cooking for the chickens. I've seen fermenting and mixing homemade and "growing" the grains/beans... This I can probably do my small flock. By the way, if you choose to continue this method, some Oriental/Chinese grocery stores sell rice by the 50 pound bag. Also, (not sure just exactly where you are) you may have a Restaurant Depot or other restaurant supply store that you can get access to that will sell dry beans for $15-$20 for another 50 pound bag. Beans are super simple to cook in a slow cooker.
Looks like your zip-tied pen is holding up nicely! I've also heard of making a tall, deep compost pile with a few worms added & supplementing with some grass is a good way to sustain chickens. Always good to see you!
My grandpa kept over 100 head of Rhode Island Red hens and a few roosters, he fed them with a couple black light bug zappers and he would walk down to the river with his cast net a couple times a week and come back with a 5 gallon bucket of shad to feed them. He sold enough eggs to have plenty of beer money and he would buy the hens 2 50 lb sack of laying mash per week. They were super healthy and those eggs were the best I ever ate.
@DoingItCheap Feeding them birds those shad turned their droppings into a rich source of fertilizer. The area he kept those chickens in was about 2 acres. Even with all those birds the vegetation around there was lush and green. He used that fertilizer in his garden and grew a beautiful crop of vegetables, purple hull peas, speckled butter beans and greens. He raised a few white leghorn and turkeys for their meat as well.
wow;;;never thought of that;;;;;I always plant a big variety of greens for winter feeding suppliments;;;;chard kale;;;collard greens and several others;;also plant oats and gather for feed suppliments;;;;still feed bought food but cut the bill in half;;;also every now and then I have a big crop of corn that works;;;;have planted a bit of maize and let go to seed and cut stalks and hang to dry and have a head of seeds to pitch in for snacks for the cacleberry makers;;;lol;;;I would come over and help ya with the roosters that ya invite to dinner but my tricycle has two flat tires and one oj the pedals broke off so I just hit the thumbs up and wait for the next one;;;;oh had a HAPPY TRUMP CUP OF COFFEE THIS MORN;;;;
Just found this video, good one about all those chickens, I was just thinking I wonder how much fired chicken I have consumed In my days, I enjoyed the video, Thanks
@@DoingItCheap Ya tell me about it, cheapest cage eggs r going for $5.20 per dozen, forget about trying to get free range, those r like $18 or over now, in Australia. I am curious, what are the current prices for eggs in ur local area, if u bought them from the store?
Up north we have night crawlers. You can run current through a rod that you pound into the ground after wetting down t u e ground. They'll come up, free food!
I use two coat hangers with an extension cord tied to them about 12 inches apart. Plug it in and here they come. Be careful not to touch the hot wire !!.
My wife has been doing this for about a year. And I been getting mad because I felt she was wasting food. But maybe she saved us money. I can't let her watch this video lol.
My day is definitely much better now than I got to see your latest video. Thank you for always sharing your thoughts and experiences with us. BTW what does Willie Brown and the 2024 presidential election have in common? Kamala Harris blue both of them!😂😂
as long as it's cooked..... pasta goes down da hatch with no problems. don't take much beak strength to cut spaghetti up..... and try to take an egg away from a broody hen see.... oh... they can break up food
We have SO many predators around here !!! Years ago, I watched a red fox come into the yard and grab a chicken and walk away !! I didn't have a gun nearby.
I will show the details later, but I have 6 links of chain bolted to each corner. I take a chain with two hooks and use my 4 wheeler to drag it to greener pastures. The pen is mounted to a 4x4 frame.
If it involves chickens, it's called feeding them on the "cheep". Sorry, I couldn't resist. When you have kids, cringeworthy "dad jokes" are practically obligatory.
Indeed ! I came across a deputy filling out a report for a lady's car damage from hitting a deer. She didn't want it. It went in my freezer. I even did a video on it. th-cam.com/video/lWER4HjD96E/w-d-xo.html

I built a 4x4 frame to mount the coop so I can move it like a chicken tractor and added hardware cloth. Lots of predators around here !!
Your awesome Paw Paw❤
Thanks a bunch!
😍
Good to see you PawPaw. 👍
I hope everything is going well with you too.
Wonderful day for chickens and freedom loving Americans today😁

That is a great way to feed chickens.

I don't miss spending money on feeding chickens. They're a fun animal though.
They are very entertaining. I rotate opening the pens so that every few days they get to free range. LOT of predators here.
Ur chickens are eatin better than i do
Thanks Bob, good to know!!😊
I'm always glad to help a fellow chicken farmer out.
Hi pawpaw life's going to get great again ❤Trump❤
You bet it is, and chickens are part of it! 😊

You sound like you know how to feed your chickens on the cheap.
I have a friend that does this exact thing saves so much money
Good to see you again, hope all is well with you and your family.
Thank you, I hope everything is going well with you also.
@@DoingItCheap I'm doing great now that we have a new Sheriff (Mr. TRUMP) in town.
Hi PawPaw - I love your content. I hope you do a Christmas video again this year.
Great video sir thk u
Just found this video, good one about all those chickens, I was just thinking I wonder how much fired chicken I have consumed In my days, I enjoyed the video, Thanks
Just checking on you old friend
Everybody and everything has to earn it keep!
No eggs, no fertility, no food for you. You become food for me !! LOL !!
Chickens have not yet evolved enough to slurp noodles.
Hi Paw Paw, with what eggs cost these days, I dont blame u for havin ur own production of eggs.
good info. thanks for sharing
I know what you mean about the price of eggs! Just a few years ago Aldi was in a price war with Walmart and they were only 27 cents a dozen.

@@DoingItCheap BTW Great to see you are MAGA Man.
Walmart is around $3.75 USD for one dozen of their least expensive eggs.
Ever since 2015 !
Good video. Hope all is well with y'all.
All is well with me, thanks for watching.
They sure do seem to approve of that savings!

Thanks would have like to know how much you save doing it that way?
I'll follow up and let you know.
I bought noodles and beans from the Dollar store. Works great. Where did you get yours?
Aldi

@DoingItCheap I didn't proofread my talk-to-text message. You know my Pavonian English is better than that. LOL 😂

When I had hens , they loved ramen noodles then they got expensive, there like hogs , they ate about anything though
Maga brother!
My wife feed our chickens all the table scapes
Good morning pawpaw how are you doing today
better than i deserve.
Pawpaw, didn't you make a video on making eggnog?
I've looked but haven't located it .. thanks
Not yet!
@DoingItCheap maybe it was Irish cream 😜
Yes indeed !!
Looks like too much work
It all depends. IF you are having pintos, a big pot will cook as fast as a small one. Same as rice and pasta.
Hello pawpaw how are you
I am great !
Bet that home cooked chicken feed is a lot less then store bought. Can you "free range" them at all?
We have SO many predators around here !!! Years ago, I watched a red fox come into the yard and grab a chicken and walk away !! I didn't have a gun nearby.
@@DoingItCheap Understand completely. How about a "chicken tractor", moveable gage for them so you can push it around the yard?
