It genuinely is one of the shittiest trailers I've ever seen. Minecraft is so far removed from reality that a live-action adaptation just simply wouldn't work. Heck, since this is a Warner Bros Pictures film, why couldn't they have made it a LEGO Minecraft movie? The Lego Movie was a massive success and so was Lego Batman. So why not milk your Lego film just *_one more_* time?
I argue that's part of why the live-action Mario movie from 1993 failed. The Mario games are just too cartoony to work in live-action. Personally, I love the movie (even more so than the new one), but even I can acknowledge that it was a critical and commercial flop.

Personally I LOVE the way they portrayed Minecraft in a "realistic" fashion - but what makes it all fall down is the real people interacting with it. I don't mind a potential Isekai storyline, it's probably the easiest way to do one for a movie intended to reach beyond a Minecraft player base. I don't mind the insane designs for the "Real People" - Jason Momoa looks suspiciously like the sprite I'm currently using (he's a purple mohawked fully bearded crazed expression peg legged and pink evening dress wearing monstrosity) and it works for a Minecraft Sprite... but not for a real life person. That's where the problems come for me - they should have committed to the bit. Once they gave the audience a way to avoid the bit - the "realistic" Minecraft bit - people did so with ruthless abandon. And with the political landscape being where it is, a lot of us are expecting that the main adults in the movie are Activists (I'm honestly expecting Momoa to be unironically Trans, though it's far more likely he's just a Progressive Activist Ally type. I'm HOPING he's not political at all, in any way, and that neither is the lead woman, but entertainment in the last 10 years has trained me to not be so hopeful.) which makes it even easier to pick apart the visuals of the teaser, the problems with the game (Piglins using Ghasts as mounts??? I only play the main Minecraft game, that doesn't happen there!) etc. And Jack Black. I'm tired of Jack Black. He's literally a reason for me NOT to see this movie. So while I'm reserving judgement until a trailer comes out that gives some explanation, I'm not hopeful - even though I LOVE the Sheep, the Llama, the Creeper, the Blocks, the Piglins and Ghast, all the Minecraft stuff is great, the real world stuff gives me so much pause that it's hard to not to dismiss this one immediately.
The 80s aesthetic they were trying for with Mamoa was clearly not researched at all. It's like how a person born in 1999 tries to describe to a zoomer.
The trailer’s visuals felt off to me, but couldn’t explain why. But IronMouse saying it looks AI made it click. It definitely looks AI. I have a feeling the script and visuals were made using AI, but they had to use live action characters for the protagonists because the protagonists they had made it too obvious it was AI.
They should have just hired Slamacow to make the Minecraft movie. I've always been a fan of his Minecraft animations. I think he is the best one of the Minecraft animation channels out there.
Honestly Jason Momoa’s outfit is one of the things I don’t have a problem with, I mean I can maybe understand the issue if he’s playing an old character from the game who doesn’t look like that, but otherwise he looks cute so why ask why? ☺️

Hundreds of Minecraft video creators are facepalming right now; they could've just scooped up a bunch of them, said "we want a full length feature film and we're willing to pay" and got something better.
The sooner it flops, the sooner its straight to Netflix for all the kids to watch on their devices (with headphones on) Parents, make the right decision... don't take your kids to see this in cinemas.

I agree, but i think the problem is that the animals both look too real and too cartoony, i mean, you had better odds with a real sheep just having the eyes edited to look like the minecraft one and having the wool be shaped like a square, the world looks so plastic and fake, like one of those minecraft cheap copies that just want to lure young kids looking vaguely like minecraft on a expensive filter, when minecraft already looks so good you might as well use real scenery slightly edited and props, there are soo many examples to draw from on internet and fan projects, you can make it adress more than 9year olders, like fnaf movie, witch kids watched a lot despite having a man being punctured to death, but no, that takes creativity and being smart wich warner clearly isn't
