i remember waking up early every morning to catch the wgbh 2 sign on. i can't believe it's 8 years later and this video still brings back good memories.
Some of the places listed at the end of this sign-off I'm familiar with/know about/been there: New England Conservatory, right on Huntington Avenue, Museum of Science, I've been there plenty of times before. Museum of Fine Arts, that's right on Huntington Avenue, Simmons College, I think that's right off Riverway or something like that. Northeastern University, that's on Huntington Avenue as well. Tufts University, I believe that's somewhere in Somerville, MA. Boston College, that's in Newton, MA not far from the Boston College Green Line stop. And Brandeis University, that's in Waltham, Massachusetts, serviced by MBTA bus route 553 Roberts Express.
I know its been said before but if someone had a sign on to match this that would basically make my day. I remember being a real young kid and for some reason I'd always get up real early and watch GBH 2 sign on. This video was a great reminder but its especially the sign on that I remember. I wasn't old enough to be allowed up to see the sign off lol
NOTICE: 10-01-21: fred rogers co. + youtube Removed my (2) MSTS1 Vids of WGBH-2 which contained Misterogers program openings-closings, effective 10/1/21. Both were on YT since 2007 and, seemed to delight thousands of viewers world-wide. Please understand: The removal is by Fred Rogers Co and You Tube ONLY. THEY are responsible for Your Loss, and no one else.
I could have been wrong on the color bars. Maybe it was static. Or maybe it stayed black from the time the 2 disappeared @ 2:20 until it signed back on. Who knows?
Hey MSTS1, Is there by any chance if you can ask some youtube users from around the Boston area if you can try to post an entire day of kids programming on WGBH-TV Ch 2 that were recorded on November 27, 2008 on thanksgiving day. It would be really nice if you did?

Impressive 3D graphics!
i would guess when WGBH moved to 24-hour programming, which was sometime around 2000
The 1977-89 sign on and off was so much superior to this

Is good 24000/10
I love that - looks like PS1!
Do you have the sign-on for this era?
Hallway group mamas and the papas that is correct
What year Did WGBH-TV Ch 2 stopped using that sign-off in the mid 1990's MSTS1?
I don't think I have sign-ons from this era, sorry. But if I do find any, I'll post them.
Sunny going down
Wonder if the sunest might be older that 1989?
Certainly look it.
MIKECNW
That footage is much older. That sunset was taken from the 1974 opening to Nova, another WGBH program.
@MSTS1 Maybe someone else might.
What do you want is hallway group productions
SCP WHEN DAY BREAKS
0:30-0:35 in Springfield, we operate WGBY TV channel 57
The closest I have to that is a Ch. 44- 1997, which is now up.
Are you making that guess because of the quality of the video or does the sunset change as the years pass by?

Tell that to Homer Simpson! lol
What happens after this sign-off? Color bars?
Colour bars or Static. It depends on the station
In This Clip, From 0:11 To 2:25, It Was WGBH-TV's Sunset Sign-Off Video ID From 1989.
