I never imagined the day I’d hear, ‘yea, I made everything smoother and quieter by utilizing VELCRO’ lol Great idea though! Engineering solutions can certainly be fun and rewarding. I must attempt my own now!
I have a carabiner attached to end of the 550 Cord and just hook or connect the carabiner onto the pole instead of tying it all the time. Same a bit more time
@Kayak Fishingworks you pretty much sold me on the 106 topwater PDL. im going with the 106 because its smaller and lighter . one thing im curious about is transport . do you cartop or trailer it? its advertised as a kayak that can be cartoped but every time ive seen it in real life it looks heavy
Hi Joseph, I cartop on the top of an suv. I set one end up on a mat set on the the back of the suv then lift the back of the PDL up and slide it forward onto the roof racks. Definitely a little more work than trailering but I hate driving a trailer around mainly because of finding parking.
How far it goes into the bottom all depends on how soft the surface is and how quickly you let the pole fall. Muddy bottoms it will sink in deeper than rocky bottoms. Whether you move or not depends on strength of current and wind speed. For instance it will hold in rocky bottoms even though it does not penetrate but the pole holds agains the side of a rock. Also, sometimes I will use it when in say 15 feet of water but heavy grass is within 4 or 5 feet of the surface or closer.
If you are having a hard time finding a source for fiberglass tree stakes which is too bad because I think I only paid $40 for mine when I bought it. Bass Pro (8.5') and YakAttack ( 8' thru Amazon) stake out poles for $90.
Home Depot gardening section for about $12. They are a bit flimsy so I bought 5/8” wooden dowel to fill the thin-walled metal pipe. Feels much sturdier.
Simple and effective. Thanks for sharing.

Where did you get your fiberglass stake?
Rod holder video please :)
So it just go into the ground like 2 inches? Is that enough to hold the kayak in place?
